Oh man, poor Rob, he hasn't played the 3DS version yet... that would be an absolute nightmare to play through, not kidding, probably the absolute worst 3D Sonic game period.
Sonic Lost World is a game I find more fun without utilizing the Wisps (outside of segments you need to in order to progress), which well... go figure. I don't know why Sonic Team still thinks the Wisps are fun, they weren't even all that fun in the game they originated from (Colors).
This game's cutscenes are so fucking embarrassing... Sonic is filled with childish quips and the writing is about as clever and deep as the average Teen Titans Go episode.
For all the shade one could throw at Sonic Colors, that game had arguably one of the best settings in any game in the whole series. And then you have this piece of shit...How did we go from Colors to this?
By losing your sense of identity. This is one of many examples where a game fails because instead of sticking to its guns and focusing on what makes it unique, it tried to poorly copy someone else. Imagine how much better the game would be if every level was built around Sonic's moveset and wasn't just trying to be a generic platformer like Mario. The one-off level gimmicks like the Snowballs or the wisps certainly didn't help either.
I've already beaten into the ground how much of a shameless rip-off of Mario this game is, so I won't repeat myself. BUT I think this is the worst written game in the series. Worse than Shadow, Worse than 06, worse than Colors, worse than Boom, and worse than Forces. All of these games I can enjoy ironically for the most part, though Boom not as much, but it's not offensive or anything. Lost World however actively pisses me off. The Deadly 6 are just Koopalings with one note personalities often seen in western media(psycho, fat, old mentor, the girl, emo) all lead by Bowser, Sonic is still not funny, and they RUINED Tails here. THIS is Tails at his worst for me, not in Forces. I cannot stand how insufferable he is around Sonic. I DESPISE the scene when they return to the base and he's being unfair to Sonic. The two and Eggman do not play well off each other AT ALL, and it's pathetic to see that this is what we got after SA2, where they had no problems whatsoever teaming up to save the world and actually cooperated. His character started declining in Unleashed, I don't care how many lame excuses people keep making for him in that game all because "Forces bad, Unleashed good." It's part of why I also don't like the writing in that game as much as other people do, but I'm going to stop before I go off on another tangent.

@@Chickenman_or_batman NSMBUDX removed content from the original, and added a glorified meme in its place, whereas 3D World + Bowser's Fury increased everyone's run speed, added the dive from Odyssey, colorized all the stamps to use in portrait mode, online play with rollback net code which allowed it to run much better than other Switch games that use NSO, gave an extra save file to use, gave an entire extra mode which unlike NSLU isn't a glorified ROM hack. Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD gave more improvements and only cost $50. TP HD only cost $60 if you got it pre-packaged with the Amiibo which you can use in Breath of the Wild.
So was Breath of the Wild. Even the Wii version of Unleashed was better than this game. Bayonetta runs a LOT better here than it does on the PS3. I can go on. Don't use processing power as a scapegoat.
@@AkameGaKillfan777 Yes but those are games published by Nintendo. Third party companies have a harder time making HD games on Nintendo consoles. A game like Sonic Generations would not work well on Nintendo, or at least not consistently. Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 on the gamecube worked because of the low polygon count.

I thought the demo was fine, but I watched some LPs of it, and good God, it looks worse than this.

Sonic Colors runs on GameCube hardware, I don't think technical limitations were the problem.
