    Thank you for sharing your insight on this chapter. I have been praying for the gift of speaking in tongues. This has not been granted as of yet. What you said of not looking to edify ourselves hit me, made me think if this is why I am asking for this gift. I thank you again for this. This is something to look deep within myself and pray about. Be blessed.

      There are three operations of speaking in tongues given in scripture;
      1) The only evidence given that a believer has recieved the Holy Spirit when they recieve ( Acts ch.2,10, and ch.19) and the believers private prayer language for self edification ( 1Cor.14:4).
      2) The gift of speaking in tongues that is always to be accompanied by a believer with the gift of interpretation so that all in a church gathering may be edified. ( 1Cor.12:7).
      3) A sign for unbelievers ( Acts ch.2).

    Wow to those who speak in tounges with out interpretation or explanation but speak in tounges to look like they are somehow more special than believers who do not speak. For they have earned thier reward on earth and not in heaven.

    In keeping with biblical guidelines, it doesn't matter what you think. A woman should not usurp authority over a man. This covers senior pastor or any other position where a woman is in a role of leadership. Regardless of them being uneducated or second class at the time. Obviously the word silent does not refers to the inability to speak but rather to speak authoritatively over a congregation or to have leadership roles. Our thoughts simply does not override what the bible teaches bescause society says its acceptable or any feminist movement keeps speaking about equality. God's word has never evolved to suit the times we are living in and his words will not change its meaning to suit any group or any gender. God is the same yesterday, today and forever. Peace

      Verse 26 explains very well what sort of speaking (or rather -LACK OF SPEAKING) Paul is referring to when he says, "Let your women keep silent in the churches."
      Some women might say, well what if I have a question? Paul made sure to make himself clear, even in that case...if they have a question, they should ask their dad brother, grandpa, uncle, and husband of course, -AT HOME.

      When a woman is asking a question in church, is that usurping authority?

      The idea of women pastors wasnt even assumed back then. Back then, Woman pastoring a church wasn't even up for debate.
      End of verse 33 is actually part of begining of verse 34; and in Greek it reads, "As in all the churches of the saints, let your women keep silent in the churches."

    Anyone reading,dont misunderstand verse 34 and 35. Because women used to prophesies in church according to 1 Corinthians 11:5. Obviously, no one can prophesies silently. So these verses in chapter 14 are only referring to randomly asking questions and disrupting the service, which is to be avoided.

    I’ve heard people speaking in tongues in church. My readings lead me to think that speaking in a tongue is speaking another language you haven’t learned. What I’ve heard as speaking in tongues does not sound like another language, but babbling. I’m open to the fact that God can do what he wants through his people, but I’m still cloudy on this element on Christianity. There have to be some books out there that give us the background on the culture regarding women in church. How about doing a separate video that tackles that? Thanks for all you do, Branch Together.

    Follow , then, the way of love, while you set your hearts on the gifts of the Spirit.. The highest gift you can wish for is to be able to speak the message of God (pure, unadulterated)). The man/(woman) who speaks in a "tongue" speaks not to men but to God his/(her) Father, for no one understands a word he/(she) says. yet the Holy Ghost is speaking thru his/((her)spirit divine mysteries,, He/(she) who speaks in a "tongue" builds up his(her) own soul (mind. skuzzy brain. will. emotions)
    If tongues is passed away why would thapostle Paul say I thank myGod I speak in tongues more than you al" so we'll just tear that page out from our bibles and use it for fire starter.

    So, in present day, how are we suppose to discern between a "prophet" and a "psychic" ? Is it not basically the same thing, one is just centered around premonitions that are God based? - I could totally be way off base here I'm lost, that's why I'm asking-

    • @johncoote1
      @johncoote1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      From my understanding prophesy is to edify and exhort the church for the growing of gods church kingdom and psychic is for the edification of a individual. Being Psychic like taro card reading (if that’s what you mean and all) is not of god it is of the devil. Speaking prophetically is different if that answered your question?
      Vs 36 clarifies your question it goes back to acknowledging and following the commandment for the goodness of the church.

      @@johncoote1 yeah, no, I get that the 2 are different and why they are different, I guess what I'm saying is in THIS day and age, when someone says they are a prophet, how do we KNOW that they are, and furthermore, how do we KNOW that their gift is of God, and they aren't just a wolf in sheep's clothing, trying to fool Christians to gain a following ect.?

      Kelsey, no the Bible says absolutely nowhere that there are no prophets today. While there are certainly abuses of the gifts (fakers who take advantage of people!), the Bible gives no indication that these gifts are not for today. Though rare in my life, I have seen miracles and prophetic gifts that can't be denied. Are you part of a local church? The elders of that church would be where I'd go to help discern the difference between worldly things and gifts like prophecy.

    It’s simple- women are deaconesses and ministering beside their own husbands in the NT. God just wants it that women always give the man respect; women are known to gossip and to not train their mouths from holding back how they feel/think which is a MUST in God’s world- we have to learn to watch what comes out of our impulsive mouths for our words can equal spiritual death. So following the man trains us in how to train our mouths and be wise in reaction to things.

      The man should be someone we woman admire- look up to.
      Sadly, many aren’t.
      He should be noble in behavior, kind to all
      He should be sober and not a drunk
      He should honor his wife by not cheating

    So I just wasted my time because ne never broke any passages down to define what was actually considered good and bad by Paul. Obviously if Unbelievers thing people are out of their minds Paul is not just making blanket statements. he is very specific on the regulation of tongues not just the comparison of gifts for the purpose of lifting up the church. Key requirements of proper tongues, Interpretation and Edification of Christ.

What is the original Greek it Hebrew for this word translated as “tongues” anyway?
