  • Want to save money while being able to do one of the best upgrades for your Audi TT Mk1? This detailed how to guide shows the end to end installation of ColourMFA into the Audi TT 8N instrument cluster. The donor cluster is from a late model TT 8N but this mod is compatible for cars 2000 and up (with canbus wired up). If your screen happens to have he 1/2 FIS this should work as long as you have green, grey and blue plugs in the rear and the car model is 2000+.

    Thanks for this great video, very clear explanation, there is another good video but the language is all in german so this was a great find. Two quick questions you can maybe help with if you have a moment.
    1) What pins on the blue connector need to be wired up in order to "power up" the cluster for needle calibration, is it just 12v and GND ?
    2) A long shot this one, do you have any idea of type/make/part number or where to source the little LEDs for the temp and fuel guages, mine are kaput so might as well replace when I am in there and they are obviously different from the ones used to backlight the original LCD display.
    Thanks a million!

    I really like this product, theirs a few options missing for Audi TT 8N i would love to see installed. TPMS, Speed alert, Sat nav, and bluetooth mirror link.
    Added bluetooth module could be usefull for aftermarket TPMS tire sensors etc.
    What are the future plans for this product?

    • @ianpgonzaga
      @ianpgonzaga  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi John. Some of these features are available if the factory setup is installed. Eg. Navi directions appear on screen if your car has a suitable factory installation and tpms displays on certain modules.
      As for future iterations so far the suppliers have gone v quiet on this product unfortunately.

    Another nice video Ian, and very relevant for me! I recall the on another occasion you had mentioned using some original plugs to power up the display towards the end. If there is no access to the original plugs, is there another way to do this? eg some jumpers from a 12v supply?

    • @ianpgonzaga
      @ianpgonzaga  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Rob! If working without spare power plug I think the best option would be to solder wires directly to the power ignition and ground and have them come out of the cluster where you can hooked them up to a small power supply. I just use a 12v 5a one from Jaycar to power up on the bench.

      Hello David and congrats on your TT! Gotta love them ☺️
      This video is showing an upgrade that you can do for the middle screen while the video you refer to guides you through a repair of the original red screen.
      ColourMFA has a LOT more features vs the original setup. Hope that helps!

    • @davidsnaith9041
      @davidsnaith9041 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, Ian. I understand. I guess in the ColourMFA video, you had already unsoldered and removed the flex circuit and the OE screen. I was just a little confused, but now I compare them more closely, I can see they are the same board. Thanks!
      2 follow up questions then... (1) with all the fly leads white, how the heck do you know which one goes where, particularly once you have routed them through the motherboard?? And (2), where can I get one??? They don't appear to be for sale on the site you linked to.
      Thanks again, mate. Your videos are so good, they give me the false sense of confidence that I am capable of tackling some of these upgrades!

    • @ianpgonzaga
      @ianpgonzaga  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@davidsnaith9041 yep you're right they're the same instrument cluster board 😉
      1) I use a multimeter to test which wire end has been soldered at the ColourMFA. This teamed with the with wiring diagrams helps to locate each lead to the correct position on the TT cluster.
      2) they're very scant at the moment. These kits are made in Russia and suppliers haven't been able to manufacture in bulk as they usually do. Just keep an eye out for updates in my site but I'm not sure when those updates will be.
      Also - if I can do it you can too - this project definitely takes time and patience.
