    So, just followed this video guide for a 2013 BMW 525D and apart from the screw location is slightly different for the condenser/radiator plastic cover, its exactly the same! Great video which has saved me a lot of time today at work. Thanks for uploading it!!

      Aha yes I just said the same. I needed an extra long extension squeezed down the gap to the side of the condenser.

    Paid £90.00 for BMW to daignose this part as leaking. They then quoted a FURTHER £748.00 to replace it!! I bought an IDENTICAL condenser from big UK suppliers for £149 + VAT at 20% and was more than amazed to find that the branding and labels were almost identical, the only difference was that someone had carefully removed the part of the yellow sticker that, on the original, contained the BMW logo and part number.... BMW wanted nearly £500 for just the condenser. Thank you for this video, it was invaluable and I did the job in 2 hours. Keep up the good work and lets collectively stick it to these outrageous Main Stealers

    Thanks for the instructive video. I am trying to replace the condenser on my 2012 m5 but getting the old one out is not as straightforward as on the 528i because on top of the condenser there are two additional radiators for powersteering- and transmission oil. The one for powersteering can cautiously be moved out of the way but that does not look to be feasible for the other one. Any idea how to proceed? I was thinking about disconnecting the lines to the transmission oil radiator and taking it out completely. Since the connections are at the highest point and most of the oil should be in the pan at the bottom of the car this should be doable without spilling too much fluid right? Other suggestions welcome.

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Long Chau now you want to see if you’re getting power and ground to compressor. Check fuses and hook up a scan tool check for codes.

    If I wanted to do this DIY myself (and I'd be comfortable doing so), are there machines I can rent to evacuate the refrigerant? or could I take it to a shop, have them do it, then drive home and do the work? Is there a video on replacing the compressor as well?

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Michael Bennett you can definitely take it to a shop and have them evacuate due to repairs at home come back and have them charge it. I don't have a video on the compressor at this time.

    Wow thanks for the video its looks pretty easy to do - does this removal work for the F10 535i as well. Sorry, as in the is it the same process? I got quoted from BMW in Australia $2,300 AUD to diagnose and replace the condenser. As they said the job would take 7 hours to replace the condenser. If this the process as what it looks like I can have the whole top cover removed in 20 minutes.

      alex d it's not easy. The truth is about 85% of the mechanics out there under paid. It takes years of schooling and experience plus thousands tools to keep today's cars on the road. Thank you for the compliment and thank you for watching.

      Underpaid??
      This repair costs around $600 in the US, just labor, and it's 4 hour job at most. How many people in this country make $150/h?
