Hi Matilda! A product that I have been using in place of the YSL is the Estée Lauder Double Wear Brush-on Glow BB Highlighter. I wear it in 2C for under eye brightening. It really reminds me of both the Chanel and the YSL. Even though it’s called a highlighter, I don’t see any glitter or sparkle in it. Just a light weight pretty formula!

Love hearing about your everyday make up throughout the year! I’ve really been loving Merit recently too! They’ve replaced a lot of old favourites in my make bag as new staples. As a new mum I find it so quick and easy to apply and easy for the warmer months (no cakes makeup). The Minimalist + brush, blush in Fox, and mascara (so easy to take off!) are everyday faves. Fox is such a gorgeous shade and I also love to use it on my lips too! Beauty Pie under eye brighter and Glossier Boy Brow are my other staples.

I love summer, my makeup doesn't change that much. I usually might get a new lippie or eye shadow. Merit Flush Balms are very nice and the packaging is perfect to use for application. I use GIVE (Gwen Stefani) mascara (the BEST mascara for separation and length) ,and top off with Thrive tubing mascara and I get both separation and volume for my very sparse Asian lashes.
One new love in my makeup collection is the Pat Mc Grath highlighter duo in nude. It’s been the product giving my fair skin an angelic glow to my skin. Best part: it’s customizable. I can control how much of a pearly or glossy glow I want from it.
For your brightening under eye search, check out Clarins Instant Concealer. The shade range is shocking overall but for your skin tone there is one that is super brightening! I’ve had mine for 10 years and it’s still good and I’m only just hitting the end!

I’ve been using Victoria Beckham satin kayak liner in navy noir. It’s not as harsh as black for a daytime subtle Smokey eye and the navy makes the whites of my eyes seem brighter. It’s smooth, creamy with a felt tip for smudging.
I look over the Merit products each time I go to Sephora, but I haven't bitten yet. Trying to pan some more products purchased last year. Focused on getting my money's worth from the following: Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue tinted cream in Vanilla; Tarte Face Tape in 16N (concealer) ; Loreal Voluminous mascara in Burgundy; The Nudes by Juvia eyeshadow pallet. Looking forward to a long hot break from my job as a school library assistant with travel around Oregon USA.

Merit’s Minimalist in Bisque is my perfect shade. I love the finish and texture of it and I’ve almost completely used it up! I need to replace it soon. I missed out on Aperitif and I’m so stoked they brought it back so I bought that and am patiently waiting to try it. I’m so glad it’s a true red because I don’t really like blue reds on me. Anything with a neutral to warm undertone suits me best. My go to mascara has been Neutrogena Healthy Lengths in brown black. I lightly brush it on to give the lightest tint and hold my lash curl. It’s gorgeous.

I love ❤️❤❤ Merit products. Just ordered Aperitif and L’Avenue to add to my collection of lipsticks. I love all of their products. If there was a product I wish I could find in their line up, it would have to be easy to use pot eyeshadows that could be applied with your fingers. Seems like such a natural extension to the brand. I would also love to see some eye and lip liners. I’m am positive the color selections would be on point.
My skin has been kind of grumpy with me so I've been using just lip products and brown liner with generous sunscreen and moisturizer. My favorite right now is elf's hydrating core lip shine in Giddy, it's perfectly balmy without the feel of chapstick getting everywhere. It's my nail polish that goes fully vibrant this time of year more than my lips 😂

I live in a tropical country so I mostly just do my eyebrows, wear liptint and powder. Sometimes I use blush too. My favorites this summer are Romand juicy lasting tint in figfig and Happy Skin serum blush in extra. I'm also thinking of trying the reformulated air blush of Sunnies Face. 💖

I’ve recently began using L’Oréal Voluminous Butterfly Effect masacara, since Lancôme discontinued my favorite Grandiose mascara. I’m glad I bought backups of CT Hollywood Flawless eyeshadow palettes - I love the ethereal glow it gives my eyes. So sad that they’re being discontinued 😢
Ilia balmy gloss in Tahiti - I think I bought this last summer, didn't finish it, ignored it all winter in favour of Glossier Generation G in Like, and then rediscovered it this spring. On me it's the perfect summer color.
I love Merit - especially the foundation stick, the blush and the lip oils. I’m really interested in trying their big brush but I’m debating another one by Rephr. I really wanted to love their lipsticks, but there seems to be a gap in the midrange colors.

I opened a fresh tube of Mac Extended Play Gigablack Mascara the other day and It's incredible. My typical favourite mascaras are by Clinique but I wanted to use a tubing mascara in this hot weather! I've also been using a Jouer Blush/Bronzer Les Brights duo in the shade Peach that I'm obsessed with, really convenient to have both in the same compact. And any blush Jouer makes is perfect, it's what they do best imo. Honorable mentions go to my Dior Lipglow in Rosewood and my Chatecaille blush in Happy for some effortless tints 🙏 Also, in my rediscovery of Mac after years of not owning anything from them, the single eyeshadow in "Expensive Pink" is the perfect glowy summer shade and I can't put it down 🤌
Love the merit complexion stick, blushes, bronzer and lipstick! So good!! I wanted to love the highlighter but it smelt like it was already off so I returned that. I didn’t love their lip oil - I don’t know but on my lips it clung to dry patches instead of just gliding over them.
You're a MERIT expert Zahra! 😄👏 I prefer the feel of the new Shade Slick Gelée formula - the shades are super sheer but it's slightly thicker like a gloss so the texture hangs around a little longer x

I’ve been loving the Merit minimalist stick (and brush) for months now after seeing you recommend it; so perfect for everyday and great for travel. I haven’t branched out to any of their other products yet but have some on my wishlist - will probably ask for one of their bag sets for my birthday next month. The foxglove shade of the blush is calling to me. I have a large cream blush collection but nothing in quite that shade. Maybe they are releasing an eyeshadow? I don’t recall that being on their product line up. Lovely video as always!!!
I've noticed that you zoomed in on the makeup products or is it imagination? Maybe a new camera or lens? Either way this is great! I especially liked how you could see the bristles of the mascara and eyebrow wand. Almost count how many bristles. I can always tell what kind of mascara I would like based on the bristles and you've showed it so perfectly. I dunno, something more refined and sleeker about this video, and I like it 😉

I've been seing Merit a lot recently but $34 for a lipstick is unfortunately out of my budget, especially looking at colourpop. One day I'll get it because that shade is beautiful.

Unfortunately not Jennifer, tutorials aren't the style of my channel! I've always filmed in a flat-lay format that puts the focus on the products. I've only used it with creamy/balmy products so I can't comment on liquids Ira, but everything about the shape and density suggests it would probably blend them nicely too. I've even been wanting to buy another one to use for blush and bronzer and keep this one for my base 👏 x
I remember Chanel's ombre premier eyeshadow cream was (maybe still is) one of your fave. I actually tried it after watching your vid. Love the color (Scintillance) and texture, but it dries SO fast 😭, I made sure i always close the lid tightly but didn't help. After repurchasing it twice, I stopped. How do you keep it from drying it out? Does this also happen to you?
Yes, I used to love those Ombre Premiere pots! I didn't have drying issues at the time luckily but I know other people did, and I must admit it's been a very long time since I reached for them... I know Inglot Duraline or similar makeup mixing liquids can be helpful to bring life back to dried out products, so I might try that if they've dried since I last used them! 💧 x
It has been a while Lisa! I had some disappointing experiences with Olio e Osso in a work capacity that I won't go into, so that was sad. Haven't reached for my Jillian compacts in a while but thank you for reminding me to revisit her blushes and eye tints! 👁 x

So I know the formulas are different but I am trying to place the Merit Aperitif in the context of my Lisa Eldridge collection. Where would you place it on the scale of Velvet Morning to Velvet Ribbon? I am aware that formula plays a role as the Merit one would allow for natural lip colour to come through as well...but I still need to know before I make a purchase. @@matildaonvideo Thank you! I haven't tried the Luxuriously Lucent reds, but I have Kitten Mischief in that formula. I find the reds a bit too shiny for me. I like shiny red on other people but I just look like I've eaten ketchup and it all went terribly wrong 🤭 The Merit lipsticks have more natural finish, I think (I have slip and tiger). For context I also love the Givenchy Le Rouge Sheer Velvet (I have Rouge Infuse and for me this is a very wearable red) but I find it ever so slightly drying.
Interesting! Colours can certainly look slightly different on everyone - I've seen Fig described as a 'plum brown' so those rosy tones sound right! But it just looks like a classic brown on me when I apply it like eyeliner 🤎 x

Rather then makeup bag, more like my purse I’ve been loving the revlon ink crayon in take flight. It’s a nice everyday nude for me. Super pretty and very low key. Plus no eyeshadow and just mascara on the eyes.❤

Merit Flush Balms are very nice and the packaging is perfect to use for application. I use GIVE (Gwen Stefani) mascara (the BEST mascara for separation and length) ,and top off with Thrive tubing mascara and I get both separation and volume for my very sparse Asian lashes.

I’ve been using Victoria Beckham satin kayak liner in navy noir. It’s not as harsh as black for a daytime subtle Smokey eye and the navy makes the whites of my eyes seem brighter. It’s smooth, creamy with a felt tip for smudging.

Merit’s Minimalist in Bisque is my perfect shade. I love the finish and texture of it and I’ve almost completely used it up! I need to replace it soon. I missed out on Aperitif and I’m so stoked they brought it back so I bought that and am patiently waiting to try it. I’m so glad it’s a true red because I don’t really like blue reds on me. Anything with a neutral to warm undertone suits me best.
My go to mascara has been Neutrogena Healthy Lengths in brown black. I lightly brush it on to give the lightest tint and hold my lash curl. It’s gorgeous.

I love ❤️❤❤ Merit products. Just ordered Aperitif and L’Avenue to add to my collection of lipsticks. I love all of their products. If there was a product I wish I could find in their line up, it would have to be easy to use pot eyeshadows that could be applied with your fingers. Seems like such a natural extension to the brand. I would also love to see some eye and lip liners. I’m am positive the color selections would be on point.

My skin has been kind of grumpy with me so I've been using just lip products and brown liner with generous sunscreen and moisturizer. My favorite right now is elf's hydrating core lip shine in Giddy, it's perfectly balmy without the feel of chapstick getting everywhere. It's my nail polish that goes fully vibrant this time of year more than my lips 😂

I live in a tropical country so I mostly just do my eyebrows, wear liptint and powder. Sometimes I use blush too. My favorites this summer are Romand juicy lasting tint in figfig and Happy Skin serum blush in extra. I'm also thinking of trying the reformulated air blush of Sunnies Face. 💖

I’ve recently began using L’Oréal Voluminous Butterfly Effect masacara, since Lancôme discontinued my favorite Grandiose mascara. I’m glad I bought backups of CT Hollywood Flawless eyeshadow palettes - I love the ethereal glow it gives my eyes. So sad that they’re being discontinued 😢

I love Merit - especially the foundation stick, the blush and the lip oils. I’m really interested in trying their big brush but I’m debating another one by Rephr. I really wanted to love their lipsticks, but there seems to be a gap in the midrange colors.

I opened a fresh tube of Mac Extended Play Gigablack Mascara the other day and It's incredible. My typical favourite mascaras are by Clinique but I wanted to use a tubing mascara in this hot weather!
I've also been using a Jouer Blush/Bronzer Les Brights duo in the shade Peach that I'm obsessed with, really convenient to have both in the same compact. And any blush Jouer makes is perfect, it's what they do best imo.
Honorable mentions go to my Dior Lipglow in Rosewood and my Chatecaille blush in Happy for some effortless tints 🙏 Also, in my rediscovery of Mac after years of not owning anything from them, the single eyeshadow in "Expensive Pink" is the perfect glowy summer shade and I can't put it down 🤌

Love the merit complexion stick, blushes, bronzer and lipstick! So good!! I wanted to love the highlighter but it smelt like it was already off so I returned that. I didn’t love their lip oil - I don’t know but on my lips it clung to dry patches instead of just gliding over them.
You're a MERIT expert Zahra! 😄👏 I prefer the feel of the new Shade Slick Gelée formula - the shades are super sheer but it's slightly thicker like a gloss so the texture hangs around a little longer x

I’ve been loving the Merit minimalist stick (and brush) for months now after seeing you recommend it; so perfect for everyday and great for travel. I haven’t branched out to any of their other products yet but have some on my wishlist - will probably ask for one of their bag sets for my birthday next month. The foxglove shade of the blush is calling to me. I have a large cream blush collection but nothing in quite that shade. Maybe they are releasing an eyeshadow? I don’t recall that being on their product line up. Lovely video as always!!!

I've noticed that you zoomed in on the makeup products or is it imagination? Maybe a new camera or lens? Either way this is great! I especially liked how you could see the bristles of the mascara and eyebrow wand. Almost count how many bristles. I can always tell what kind of mascara I would like based on the bristles and you've showed it so perfectly. I dunno, something more refined and sleeker about this video, and I like it 😉

I've only used it with creamy/balmy products so I can't comment on liquids Ira, but everything about the shape and density suggests it would probably blend them nicely too. I've even been wanting to buy another one to use for blush and bronzer and keep this one for my base 👏 x

I love the concealer stick from MERIT, however I have bought two and they both broke! Very disappointing, the product if it breaks is very impractical
I remember Chanel's ombre premier eyeshadow cream was (maybe still is) one of your fave. I actually tried it after watching your vid. Love the color (Scintillance) and texture, but it dries SO fast 😭, I made sure i always close the lid tightly but didn't help. After repurchasing it twice, I stopped. How do you keep it from drying it out? Does this also happen to you?
Yes, I used to love those Ombre Premiere pots! I didn't have drying issues at the time luckily but I know other people did, and I must admit it's been a very long time since I reached for them... I know Inglot Duraline or similar makeup mixing liquids can be helpful to bring life back to dried out products, so I might try that if they've dried since I last used them! 💧 x
Do you still use brands like Olio E Osso and Jillian Dempsey? Haven’t heard those names in ages and just stumbled across my old Olio E Osso balm.
It has been a while Lisa! I had some disappointing experiences with Olio e Osso in a work capacity that I won't go into, so that was sad. Haven't reached for my Jillian compacts in a while but thank you for reminding me to revisit her blushes and eye tints! 👁 x

Where would you place it on the scale of Velvet Morning to Velvet Ribbon? I like shiny red on other people but I just look like I've eaten ketchup and it all went terribly wrong 🤭 The Merit lipsticks have more natural finish, I think (I have slip and tiger). For context I also love the Givenchy Le Rouge Sheer Velvet (I have Rouge Infuse and for me this is a very wearable red) but I find it ever so slightly drying.
I find Nudestix Fig to be more rosewood than brown.
Interesting! Colours can certainly look slightly different on everyone - I've seen Fig described as a 'plum brown' so those rosy tones sound right! But it just looks like a classic brown on me when I apply it like eyeliner 🤎 x
@@matildaonvideo Yeah, it's really interesting. I have a medium-dark competition (Mac nc44), and I apply Fig over Glossier Skywash in Echo to make it look browner.

I am so intrigued by Merit beauty, but how do you get it here in Aus? On their website it says they only ship in the USA, Canada and the UK :(

I've asked friends to bring products back in their suitcase or mail orders to me, used a forwarding service, and the brand has sometimes manually mailed products (the US, Canada and the UK is where most of my audience is so I'm lucky to have the opportunity to work with brands based there). MERIT is only two years old and started shipping to the UK this year so I hope Australia won't be too far away! 🤞✈️ x

They don't ship here yet unfortunately! I'm lucky to sometimes be sent launches through my work with the brand as most of my audience is in the US, but I've also sent orders to friends to mail to me or bring back in their suitcase, or used a forwarding service (the last one I used wasn't great so I'm on the hunt for a new one!) ✈️ The brand is only two years old and just expanded to the UK so I hope we'll be on their list soon! x
