  • In this episode of TheFadShow I work on replacing the CV axles on my 100 series Toyota Land Cruiser. Finally I have fixed the drivetrain clunk on my 100 series. I also remove my front driveshaft clean it and re-pack it with fresh grease.

Thanks! I’ve watched a few of your write ups fervently. Got the cv axles done today. My only advise for fellow diyers is to take out the axle opposite the flange side first and install opposite how you removed it. Also if you’re working alone reattach the ball joint and it should get your axle pretty level and if you’re lucky a few taps and you’re in. Finally I don’t know if I’m courageous enough but I have a steering rack that is in its final throes of life. Thanks again and to anyone else watching you can do it! Buy a case of your favorite beer! Keep making videos.

Thank you very much. Glad to hear that the videos may have helped you. There’s a lot of work behind the scenes on making the videos too, so appreciate the acknowledgement and thanks. Cheers!

This is great. I’m chasing the same clunk right now on my 06 LX.
I just bought it and the axels look like part store axels.
I did the flanges and differential bushings with OEM parts and that helped , but some of the slop is definitely with the axels themselves…
What are your thoughts of CVJ axels?

They are remanufactured so the splines will have wear I’d bite the bullet and buy brand new oem personally.

After 8 months is the clunk still gone? I have done everything you did and more and I still have the clunk/think when I go on and off the accelerator.

It’s gotten a lot better but my remaining clunk is in the differential. I don’t think it’s hurting anything so my plan is to run it until failure.

I have a clunk sound coming from the rear when I go over speed bumps. I also get shudder if I go over 55 mph on the highway. You think the cv axle will solve this?

Sounds like rear upper trailing arms to me.

@@thefadshow I'm going to replace the drive shaft front and rear with aftermarket first to see if the shudder goes away. Thanks!

@TheFadShow I believe that this is what is happening with mine. They replaced both axles with parts store not Original Axles.
