I think doing a video on award winning books would be great. Even something like “I read one pulitzer fiction prize from every decade” since it goes back to 1917. Would be interesting to discuss (at least for the average reader like me who doesn’t know much about what these awards are about) what makes a book win or what types of books end up getting these awards, why, if you think the books hold up over time, etc.

Your capsule bookshelf is almost my whole bookshelf!
I usually read my library's books (they're pretty well stocked) and buy the ones I absalutely love and want to own myself. It's way cheaper and more sustainable for me.

    • @minou21
      @minou21 2 ปีที่แล้ว +32

I used to do the same thing. I would download pdfs and highlight them and even make notes. And I'd only buy the books that I absolutely loved and had to own. Then I'd highlight, annotate and write in them using my online book as an example.
However, recently I've had some extra money on my hands and I accidentally went on a book buying spree and.....I regret to say I cannot stop. Literally addicted. But I'm trying to get myself in control.

Jack, I feel so happy that you bought a book from the Ukrainian author💙💛 I haven’t yet got around to Kurkov, might pick it up because of you.
There are so many brilliant voices in Ukraine that were translated in English: Serhiy Zhadan, Oksana Zabuzhko, Yuriy Andrukhovych and many more. Each has their own poetic and striking style.
It’s terrible that we received a spotlight from suffering from the war started by the terrorist state of russia, however, we’re holding up and trying to get at least some good out of it.

I recently tried to read the clockwork orange because I thought oh it’s only 150 pages, easy but it turns out you basically need a dictionary for the slang and that’s not included in the book because Burgess expected the readers to just figure out what he meant by rassoodock or sloochat or ticklewickled. So basically I spent an entire afternoon making vocabulary bookmarks and then never started reading it 😅

Would love to see themed videos about specific decades... I was born in 1990 and I feel like the beginning of social media awareness of popular books (aside from HP, of course) wasn't until the late 2000s and into the 2010s. I would love to be recommended more books that are newer than classics but not just what is currently being released.

Bought „Cursed Bunny“ yesterday. I read „Cleopatra & Frankenstein“ in May and it was chef‘s kiss

This was wonderful! 🤍 If I may suggest a topic/content for future videos, I think a lot of people, especially those going through heartbreak, would love to see something on the books that helped you through getting over break ups or simply take your mind off the pain of heartbreak and eventually focus on yourself? Maybe the ones you've read already or can recommend. ✨

Judging by the only two books of this collection that I've read (The Bluest Eye and Maus), this is a _fantastic_ capsule bookcase.

You know what is absolutely maddening is that I adore hearing you speak about books...It's so odd? Because I don't read much,...I love reading but not as much as the average person maybe. I just love how you speak about books...there is something so charming about it and you hardly even say much because you don't want to ruin the entire story of the book so I'm actually so confused jbrsn

Sorrow and Bliss is my pick for the Womens Fiction Prize this year. Loved it. A Man Called Ove is one of my all time favourite books. You should also add Elinor Oliphant is Completely Fine to that list it's an awesome book.

I read Maus I and I really enjoyed it. The author used animals to parallel the positions of people at the time. The first book ended on a cliffhanger and I had to wait until I could buy it at my local bookstore. They finally had one today and it’s on my tbr.

I picked up A Clockwork Orange as a young adult, looked at the first page and thought 'nope'. Loved the movie. Then picked up the audiobook recently and it was awesome. Truly fantastic. Tom Hollander narrated.

if you like the merging/switching POVs without warning you should try The Planetarium by Sarraute. I personally completely despised it but maybe you'd be into it. Definitely something different and very French existential vibes.

It´s always fun to watch your videos and listen to your opinions (and funny comments). Glad to know you are reading mexican writer Fernanda Melchor, her novel TEMPORADA DE HURACANES, (i guess it´s transalted HURRICAINE SEASON) is also really good. Saludos from Ensenada, B.C.
