    Love this video concept Ruby! Do you think you'll do one for fall??? I would love to see your fall book recommendations and I'm sure many others would too! Also, if you haven't read it, you should read Peace Like a River by Leif Enger. It feels like a modern American classic and it's absolutely beautiful. It also talks a lot about faith which I think you'd enjoy and it's such a good fall/winter read!!!

    The concept behind Winesburg, Ohio sounds similar to Ray Bradbury’s Dandelion Wine. For anyone seeking a slow-paced story about the passage of summer through the eyes of a small town, Dandelion Wine by Bradbury could be another great choice :)

    As someone living in the Deep South in the USA, South Dakota is not part of this area. I can see why there is confusion but it is northern Midwest. Similar in some ways but very different in other ways. Great list. I love Harper Lee and this year read the book Furious Hours by Casey Cep, all about Harper Lee’s life. One of the fascinating parts is that she grew up knowing Truman Capote. What a unique life she led. I need to read Atonement.

    If you have not read it yet, I highly recommend the book Where The Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. It is both a coming of age story about a young girl left alone in a shack in the marshes of North Carolina as well as a murder thriller. An excellent version of the book just came out as a movie in the US in July produced by Reese Witherspoon’s movie company. The descriptions of the marsh and nature are very much a part of the story. 🥰

    I wonder if anyone else does this. When ever I’m watching these videos and ruby is recommending a bunch of books any that I think would be interesting and that I want to read I pause the video and find the book on Goodreads and add it to my want to read list. Even though it’s currently winter here in Australia. For me the best summer reads are the little house books. Farmer boy is my favourite because I just think all the food that is described in all of the books but especially farmer boy sounds sooooo good.

    Hey Ruby! Have you read any Tolkien books? I feel like you would love his style of descriptions. I know you are not really into fantasy, but the way he eases you into the genre is fantastic. I just finished reading most of his Middle-Earth books, and I fell in love with them! His love for language shines through in the archaic English he uses and the languages he himself created. Nature is also a major theme in his novels, so they are a perfect summer read! Enjoy your summer!

    • @shaunOG91
      @shaunOG91 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You put it so well! I feel like his books can have this stigma around them for people who aren’t into “modern” fantasy books but in reality he is like Shakespeare of fantasy, for lack of a better description on my part :D The books are EXCELLENT regardless of their genre. One of the many things I personally love about them is how much importance is placed on friendship and platonic relationships, and the ever present sense of hope against all odds.

    • @limeparticle

    • @agustinpanizza4507
      @agustinpanizza4507 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@shaunOG91 Exactly! It's because of that "stigma" that it took so long for me to get into the books. Every time I heard of the Lord of the Rings I immediately imagined something like Harry Potter wizard magic or something like an urban fantasy, yet it's nothing like that! I mean Tolkien wrote The Lay of Leithian, a poem with over 4200 lines of iambic tetrameter! The LotR is fantastic, but once you read past that, particularly the Silmarillion, there really is no going back :)

    • @aleksandrastojanovic1910
      @aleksandrastojanovic1910 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OrlaGraceMcNeil thanks so much for the kind words! I started roughly two years ago. After I watched the Queens Gambit hahaha…
      The Queens Gambit series was also one of the main reasons I first joined a chess club but now I also got really into watching all the Chess streamers hahah
      When did you start playing and what’s your rating? X

      @@carawatson5025 uhh yeah, I love the Queens Gambit series because lots of people started playing chess because of it. Especially girls and the chess world definitely needs more female players!
      I stared playing at 5 (both my parents play competitively and my dad’s also a chess coach) and my rating is about 2000 😘

    1) My favourite summer book is "My Family & Other Animals".
    2) I stil hate Briony. :)
    3) And, what about Tolkien? Have you read some of his masterpieces? The Silmarillion is just supreme...👍♥️

      should i read Tolkien if i already watched the movies ?

    • @aleksandrastojanovic1910
      @aleksandrastojanovic1910 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jane-xe9qx Definitely. Peter Jackson and his team did amazing work but unlike the Harry Potter movies, these movies are only adaptations. Furthermore, "The Hobbit" movie trilogy is Peter Jackson's original work only loosely based on Tolkien's rather short book. Tolkien's son Cristopher was totally against the LOTR movies just as a whole army of Tolkien's fans, but we have to admit that Jackson and Philippa Boyens encapsulated the essence of the books, which was not at all easy with limited amount of time as it was not TV series.
      In LOTR they had to cut out a lot of the original "lore"...So, the answer is: Yes, the books differ from the movie and it is very interesting to compare them...
