If you need to see rock-cut sculptures, you have to visit the cultural triangle area with the ancient cities and ruins (Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura, Sigiriya, Ritigala, and many more). The southern coastline isn't the best place for that. If you're heading to Ella, there's a small group of rock sculptures called Buduruwagala which is on the way just to the south that you may want to check out. If you're staying in Tangalle (a bit east of Mirissa), there's an old rock temple called Mulkirigala about 30 minutes away. Another place on the way to Ella is Tissamaharama which has some big stupas which are pretty old (but reconstructed). But again, most of the better ruins are located north and east of the central highlands.
Looking forward to watching this. Really hope you get to Ella (some good hikes), the 2 other massive sites with tons of ruins and get yourself on a safari (its amazing).
@@GabrielTravelerVideos Awesome ! You're gonna need more than 2 weeks lol. I spent Christmas and New Years in Sri Lanka in 2019 with the family. Such great memories. Enjoy and eat more local food on video !!!!

Sri lankan busses have the point of origin and the destination mentioned at the front and back of the bus. Some busses travel long distances and most of the time where you want to go might be well before the destination. Tickets are priced based on the distance you travel, not for the full journey. Usually people know the price they have to pay for the ride, so conductors usually when you just hand them over the money assume that you know the cost for the journey and they just grab it and move on. They rarely confirm with you the place you want to get down and the price. So usually they will just grab whatever the amount you are poking at them unless its lower than the least distance cost (so you can even scam them if you want - not recommended tho lol). In your case it easily could have been a combination of 1) the bus actually goes long distance so they just assumed what you gave them was the cost for the ride. (which wasnt the case here since it clearly says that the destination was galle) 2) He didnt bother to ask you where you actually wanna go cuz it was probably inconvenient to talk to you in english. so he just ignored the hassle. 3) Or most probably he just took the chance to scam you because you did not seem to show you had a good idea where you wanted to go or at least didnt tell him clearly. For future, always ask other passengers for help if you are in doubt.
I would suggest traveling next to Kandy and surrounding areas, perhaps even climbing knuckles and see the amazing rice fields . Proper Sri Lanka, though not touristy at all, lots of history
9:20 "Iguana" is a misnomer. While there are "iguanian" reptiles in Sri Lanka (like agamids and the Indian chameleon), there are no actual iguanas. There are two species of monitor lizard in Sri Lanka: the "kabaragoya" (Asian water monitor, the blackish ones with spots) and "thalagoya" (Bengal monitor)
Nice video! This one had a nice blend of music in it, SRI Lanka seems alot more chilled out then India. Hi Gabriel, the thing about traveling is behavior that is the same everywhere language and customs are different but how people interact with one another is the same. This is why communication is so critical. Just understanding body language is as important as the spoken language and traveling is a bit stressful even though we travel to try to relax it's a different kind of stress depending on the circumstance.

After all that, I guess he just wants to relax at a beach, eat some western food, and chill with a beer. I can't blame him. Heck I'll probably do the same. But, coming to your question, there are tons of ruins/ancient cities, historical buddhist temples, mountains and waterfalls, lakes, hikes and viewpoints, scenic train rides, rainforest treks (actual proper rainforst), safaris, whale watching, elephant sanctuaries, tea plantations, rice fields, colonial history, adventure activities, and a lot more. I've been there a few times. I was just randomly suggested a video from the following channel. They have a few very recent videos from Sri Lanka depicting the ruins. www.youtube.com/@rootsabroadtravel/videos
@mickhasthefacts8632 I am also wondering what is he still doing in southern coast.Already more than 3 videos about south. He might visit cultural triangle, jungle Safaris and beautiful hill side later on.
Nice video and music, but there is nothing more crass than paying a native to perform for the tourists. Go on, up the pole and fish. Look ahead, don't smile. Here's your dollar. Gross! Some nice beaches there. It looks really empty and quiet everywhere?

I normally dig his stuff but it's a bit boring so far here.
@@mickhasthefacts8632 I get your point but let's give him a break. He spent like 6 weeks doing some hardcore travel in India with pretty much no western comfort food.

@mickhasthefacts8632 I am also wondering what is he still doing in southern coast.Already more than 3 videos about south. He might visit cultural triangle, jungle Safaris and beautiful hill side later on.
Sri Lanka is going thru a very tough time with austerity measures. Incomes are less taxes are high.
Isn't it rude not to barder?

Nice video and music, but there is nothing more crass than paying a native to perform for the tourists. Go on, up the pole and fish. Look ahead, don't smile. Here's your dollar. Gross! Some nice beaches there. It looks really empty and quiet everywhere?
