    That is a great looking setup! You absolutely wore them White Bass out and that has to be one of the biggest SkipJack I have ever seen! Thanks for sharing!

      Thanks brother! We certainly have a healthy population of those white bass on this stretch of Cumberland this time of year and crazy aggressive skipjack! She was a fatty for sure haha! I appreciate the support as always!!!

    That was a nice session of white and man that skip is a beast! I would say that finesse combo worked really well!

      Thank you for the support as always my friend! I was pretty thrilled with the finesse combo, it’s just such a fun style of fishing I really don’t utilize as much as I should.

    That is an awesome setup bro! Nice mixed species action on it too. I also really like the click drag on the reel. That's really cool. I'm hoping to get a setup like this soon. Great review and testing 👌

      Thanks brother! I appreciate it! Man that click drag was a pleasant surprise! I lined it up and tested the drag and was like “this is either busted or I’m going to have a lot of fun” lol. I’m really getting into the lighter casting BfS stuff, super fun to pull in some fish on.

    Great video, I like dobbins, that finesse rod may have sold me. Good day catching and not just fishing.

      Thank you for the kind words! I appreciate it and agree, Dobyns makes some very quality rods at a reasonable price point even for their higher end stuff! The light finesse combos are just a blast to fish, even if your pulling in some smaller bites the sensitivity and fight are unmatched!

    Love the Dobyns BFS rods. I have the 650, 700, 740 and 701! I actually bought the 1st 700 that hit the Dobyns shop , waited a long time to get it.

      They’re outstanding! I have BFS rods the have costed me 2x as much and always finding myself going back to the 700, by far one of the best light jigging rods I’ve ever touched!

      Right, I have a handful of non cork rods but if I had the option I’d go cork all the way, I like the feel comfort wise and the look of them. Thanks brother! Haha I was thinking the same thing! Lol fricken tank of a skip!

    Going ulta finesse has never been in my skillset. I am starting to work on that with some trout fishing. Nice white bass on that combo. I would say it works.

      I know exactly what you mean! I have a few areas I plan on putting some work on this year as well! Top water for one, I’ve always had such a hard time committing to certain baits to the point I started only bringing them with me so I wouldn’t stop after and hr and throw something I’m good with! I appreciate the support as always brother! I’m beyond thrilled with the new combo!

    Bfs is super cool! I've been getting into it a bit. My problem is my lack of skill on baitcasters and I get some nasty backlash more than I should. I need to look into that curado reel

    • @kentuckesseeangler
      @kentuckesseeangler  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I really enjoy it, it’s been a very useful tool for me. The accuracy and placement of lighter baits has been a game changer. I certainly lost some nice fish, it can be a task to keep them pinned when they’re larger but It has definitely opened a lot of doors for me when it comes to finesse presentation. The Curado BFS has really great value. It’s fairly easy to tune in and casts like a dream!!! I backlashed a lot getting into it, with that little of line on there too those backlashes can be detrimental!

      I started using 8 and 10 lb braid and its definitely easier to manage than the 6 lb braid i was using. I might try some mono after seeing how well it performs on your setup

    Thanks for the review. I'm jumping into BFS this season for the first time. I've got the Curado BFS and now I need the rod. I will also buy the Dobyns Sierra Ultra Finesse. Can you confirm the model you have? Is it the 700 or 701? I'm going to focus on small waters and since I'm relegated to fishing the bank I am thinking about the 6'6" over the 7' to give me a little more casting room near trees. Would love to hear your opinion on choosing between the different models. Thanks!

    • @kentuckesseeangler
      @kentuckesseeangler  ปีที่แล้ว

      BFS is so much fun, I can’t get enough of it, especially as a bank angler as well. The Curado BFS has to be my favorite Curado released yet! I looked at the rod it is a 700C 7’ Light Moderate action w/Extra fast tip.
      I think if you’re going to be working around trees like that the 6’6 is the way to go! These rods are so light and combined with the Curado I feel you’re going to still have a very effective casting distance without having to worry about clipping trees. I actually ordered another BFS combo recently and opted for a 6’6 length rod as well. Running 6lb-8lb line on these reels makes them explode with backlash if you hit a small branch. I’ve dealt with it a few times now, my river is extremely high putting me in between trees recently. Thank you for the positive feedback! I really hope you enjoy the new combo and catch some beautiful fish! If you run into any questions on them please don’t hesitate to ask my friend!

    Which one for crankbaits and topwater: 700 or 701?
    Thx for helping!

    • @kentuckesseeangler
      @kentuckesseeangler  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think both could work but if it were me I’d go 701. 700 has the moderate action paired with an extra fast tip (I really use this rod for jigging small paddle tails / marabou jigs)
      While the 701 has fast action. I think the 701 would be outstanding for finesse top water, giving you that snappier more immediate / reliable action as well as much more consistency while working a smaller crankbait! Hope this helps!

    I have had a lot of expensive rods and cheap rods ….. had a $400 st croix and in my opinion the dobyns is honestly superior to it

    • @kentuckesseeangler
      @kentuckesseeangler  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I feel the same way about St Croix as well. I’ve always been a St Croix fan and still enjoy using them but my Dobyn’s rods seem more well balanced, lighter, sensitive, and more comfortable to me. Just an all around superior rod to many others!

    You should try Old 18 Buoyancy 7’ or 7’6” ML.

      @@kentuckesseeangler I’ve found these rods through Nick and MDLR fishing. They fish for red fish. I Think the rod blanks are North Forks blank by G Loomis. I have the Buoyancy 7’6” casting ML pair with Aldebaran BFS mainly for crappies. My spinning rods are St Croix Legend Extreme lt and ML. I am thinking of ordering 7’6” spinning rod also it weights 3.8 vs 4.5 oz on the St Croix. No, I did not try other models.
