Awesome video, I got the 704c when they first came out and absolutely love it! It's a great rod for bass and pan fish 👍🏻
I think the 740 is my favorite now I really think about it. Thanks for watching man! I’m glad you enjoy yours too
Awsome review with some great info. Been thinking about getting one or more of them. Keep up all the great videos and look forward to more reviews like this.
Thanks for the support jeff. I think I'm going to keep them short and sweet like this too! I'm open for ideas if you have anything you see me use that you want me to go in depth on!
Hopefully Dobyns will show you some love .
Thanks Greg, we shall see!
The dobyns 740c is an excellent rod . It's labeled moderate, but it has plenty of backbone for bfs. I would say it should be labeled mod fast, but either way it a great rod. The leverage is the game changer for this rod. I've had mine for about 9 months and love it. I got the 740 mostly on your previous opinions on the rod. I can do almost anything bfs. You steered me right on this rod. You said I wouldn't be disappointed. Thanks
Great video as always.
I love that rod Roger! I think a mod fast would be a good way to label it too. I’m fishing with it right now!
So I've been diving deeper and deeper into bfs from rods and reel combos to the bait side of it! Ive never owned a Dobyns rod but I think I may have to pick one of these up. I just bought the new Tatula Tw80 with the gomexus spool and I think one of those rods may just be the match for it.
They are the most sensitive rod I’ve ever fished with. The 740c is insanely versatile. Let me know what you decide! Thanks for watching!
Have you thought about getting a slower gear reel for your chatter bait rod? I got the Zephyr too and it is a fast reel. I also grabbed an Elf, I think it was around 19 inches per turn. I was going to use the Elf for cranks, chatters, spinners, or swim baits. I just was debating what rod, I was leaning towards a fiberglass possibly.
I like the zephyr and dark wolfs for about anything from top water to jigs I’m just dialed with them right now. I have one cheaper reel the TSU hurricane that is 6:6:1 that makes a good true cranking reel that I had on my dragon before I broke that rod. Those dragons make really good cranking rods, and my dobyns 700c makes a good high end cranking, chatterbait, and swimbait rod. I don’t know much about the finesse sized fiberglass rods, but I’d be willing to bet if I had one it wouldn’t last long as hard as I am on stuff 😂.
I love the 740c great overall rod
Probably my favorite finesse stick!
Broke the tip off mine last Friday I should have my replacement by this Friday can't wait to pair it with the new cormorant flight feather I just got
@@fishinfanaticstv3068 the rod tips are tiny, but sensitive! Let me know how you like that reel
I will post a video on it soon as I get a chance to use it
hey man im new to bfs fishing but if I was gonna pick just 1 rod which one would you pick to do a little bit of everything top water, jerk baits and bottom jigs
Dobyns 740c Sierra for me! It can do it all 🤙🏽. Thanks for watching man.
Sounds good! One more question I’m running pe braid to a leader. Do you recommend running braid or just straight flur?
@@thomasburns8375 that’s personal preference, but i don’t typically because I think I can cast a little further without the leader knot going through the guides. But if you’re confident in your leader knot that is the majority of what guys do is braid to flouro. About the only thing I could think of where the braid to leader would hurt your chances of catching fish would be throwing little crankbaits. But otherwise you should be good!
Any recommendations for a two piece rod that are comparable to these types of rods. I love my dobyns but for a quick travel or hiking trip a two piece would be easier to carry.
The most versatile rod I own that is a "budget" rod, is a kastking kestrel 6'9" light action. It's a 3 piece rod so you could put It in a backpack easily! And I've thrown It for almost a year now and i've never had It come apart while casting and It has caught me some tanks and huge catfish and drum without issues. And the best part is I really can confidently throw little bottom baits and treble baits and It does both of those things well. They are only like 89 bucks on amazon. You could probably have one at your door in 48 hours! Thanks for watching man. I plan on traveling with mine this summer!
@@clintonbruning thanks for the info. Will probably end up getting one. Because of you I bought a dobyns and man it’s all I throw now. It’s addicting!
@@RJ210Fishing I started and couldn’t stop 💀
Dobyns offers a true BFS rod. The Shimano BFS rods don't cast below 3.5 grams.
Yes sir my 701c dobyns with an ark gravity bfs and 6 lb flouro will BOMB 1/16 oz baits. Which is about 1.7 grams
Shimano also have the Cardiff AX and Trout One AS baitcasting rod that can cast from 1g (1/64oz) to 6g (5/16oz) already. the rod you're referring to is only gear towards bass fishing light fishing only and not ultra-light fishing; just so you know. plus Dobyns rod struggle anything under 2g (1/16oz) too so there's not to be proud of; just saying
@@leepao6302 Yeah those aren't available here in the USA and most of us aren't casting anything under 2 grams anyway. The reel options for casting that low of a weight are very limited here as well. We're talking about the Aldebaran, Ark Gravity BFS, and the Flight Feather. Most US BFS reels can't go below 1/8th oz without modification. A Ned Rig with a 1/15th oz jig head plus the bait is going to weigh 5.8 grams. The Dobyns Ultra Finesse rods have the backbone necessary to pull these big bass out of cover too. Hence, why all of Shimano's BFS rods in the USA don't go below 1/8th oz. The Curado, Zodias, Expride, and Poison Adrena BFS rods all bottom out at 1/8th oz. If you want to cast ultra light lures the only rod in the US market that can really do that is Jenko's Double Down BFS rod, which can cast down to 1/32oz. I honestly prefer to use UL spinning rods for the real tiny stuff when targeting bluegill, crappie, and trout. For BFS bass fishing the Dobyns is so good. I don't know why you would knock it. It's literally the perfect BFS rod for bass. Great value for the money.
@@leepao6302 true I suppose, but the dobyns are tailored to be the best bass finesse casting rods out there and I would say it’s incredibly rare to be throwing under 1/16 oz for bass, I’ve done it on the dobyns before too, the reel choice matters ALOT once you get below 1/16 too.
Been fishing BFS for almost 10 yrs now, i have to say Dobyns Sierra Ultra Finesse Casting rod isn't what they claim to be all, it's not ultra-light finesse, but finesse (Light Power) only. funny they claim to be ultra-finesse; true to be told the rod struggle to cast anything under 2g (1/16oz). maybe American people think 1/16oz is too ultra light/finesse for them already. to my understanding 1g (1/32oz) or below is consider more of ultra-light or ultra-finesse and not 1/16oz. so to conclude about those Dobyns Sierra Ultra Finesse Casting rod; the rod rating is very misleading in my opinion; just saying
Compared to the other rods they produce, a 1/16 - 5/16 oz is definitely ultra finesse though. The majority of anglers in the USA think throwing 2g baits for bass is crazy, maybe as it catches on stronger here they will come out with a rod capable of casting 1 g lures well. I’ve never had luck catching bass in TX of size on baits
