    Every reviewer on TH-cam that disclosed they bought the iPad mini 7 with their own money says the Jelly Scroll is still there. with that being said I got the iPad mini 7 by upgrading from the iPad mini 6 that I had for three years and it only cost $260. It was absolutely worth it just to have the quality of life upgrades to keep it relevant. In my opinion a mini is a complementary iPad to someone who already has a pro or an air. As a mini is best suited as a device used for media consumption, whereas the iPad Pro is a workhorse. When it comes to value the iPad mini 6 was technically a better value at the time due to having the most current chip versus the iPad mini 7 which has a binned version of last years chip. also, the design was the new design at the time unlike the current recycle without any change to the design at all. With that being said if it’s a trade, it’s absolutely worth it just for the double space for the entry level, the increase of RAM, the faster USB-C, and the better chip along with the slight improvement to the jelly scroll.

    • @AlexGTech

    I upgraded from the iPad mini 6 to the new iPad mini. For the last 3 years my experience with the mini 6 was just fine, running LumaFusion etc. I did not run into the jelly scroll issue on the mini 6 or the mini 7, probably I don’t scroll fast enough. The new mini I didn’t expect a huge upgrade, I did wish the upgrade would offer to extend the display vs mirror, maybe the next version in three years or so will do so. Either way I think the mini still holds true to itself, a really nice fit as a portable computer while your on the go on a train or vacation, sitting on the couch reading or watching TH-cam or controlling my telescope. The mini can do just about everything I want if not I can use my MacMini.

    No jelly scroll and 60 Hz is just OK. I'm a professional illustrator and industrial designer and have no lag using Procreate or Autodesk
    I use a MacBook Pro with pro motion and the iPad Pro and the Mini is just as good. Maybe for gaming might not be, but for regular work and design applications the Mini is awesome.

    The iPad mini 7 is a smarter choice because getting an iPad Pro with iPadOS will only underutilize its powerful M4 chip. You’re essentially paying for power you’ll never fully use. The mini, on the other hand, is perfectly suited for its purpose. For me, it’s the ideal tablet for media consumption, which is what I expect from a tablet. If you’re after productivity, you’re better off with a Mac. The only exception is if you need an Apple Pencil for drawing, and even then, for non-professional artists, the mini should be more than enough. My setup is simple: iPhone + iPad mini, and since I don’t need a full computer, PS5 and the Switch 2 - I can’t wait!
    As for the jelly scrolling, does not bother me one bit.
    Let us stop over complicating simple things!

    I really enjoy your videos....but...unlike some people, I'm not a 120 Hz snob, I eat jelly rolls, don't see them, use a screen protector, I DO use dozens of layers in Procreate, I don't game, I routinely use 2 and occasionally 3 apps simultaneously on the screen, and I'm still using an iPad mini 6. Nothing is as good for it's size, price and app ecosystem on any platform. Apple Intelligence - like all artificial intelligence - in my opinion is artificial and in Apple's case is not even out there yet. I wouldn't buy any product based on the promise of future software.

    I have the mini 6 and love it! I was looking forward to this mini 7, but this update doesn’t feel worth it to me…I would have really liked at least pro motion or “pro motion lite” on this. I can tell the difference having other devices with the higher refresh rates. If I didn’t have the 6, I think this mini 7 is worth it since I use mine all the time. The iPad Air & Regular iPhones also only have 60hz refresh rates. Just saying. I think eventually(probably after next year) ALL Apple products will move to 120hz refresh rate. My prediction is that the iPad mini 8 in 2026 or 2027 will get an OLED screen, thinner bezels, 1,000 nits brightness & face ID. But until then, the iPad mini 7 with it’s faster chip & 8 gigs of ram will serve me well. I am upgrading from the iPad mini 5, so this is a HUGE upgrade. But even if I had the mini 6, I’d still upgrade for the above reasons, but also for the Apple Pencil Pro support. I’m an artist who already has an iPad Pro which I love, but when I really want to travel light, I always grab the iPad mini. It’s really the perfect size digital sketchbook when on the go. So now that I can share the same Apple pencil btwn my iPad Pro & iPad mini is a major bonus. I know not everyone is thrilled with this update, but for me the iPad mini is an indispensable part of my creative workflow. I know I will get a lot of productivity out of the mini 7 over the next few years.

    Since I work in LCD technology, for the "jelly scroll", the refresh rate between the top line of the display to the bottom line is time delayed as you scroll. Therefore, you will see the "jelly scroll" more or less due to the refresh delaying time in LCD devices. It happens in your LCD TVs, monitors, etc. It won't affect me that much since I read & scroll pages slowly.

    The person who buys the iPad mini is likely to be the one who has an iPhone and a MacBook. They don't need a big tablet because they have a MacBook. The iPad mini, which is only 7% of Apple tablet sales, is not an important lineup for Apple, and there will be no new iPad mini release for at least two years. Because of this, iPad mini can be discontinued at any time.
    Except for the still 60Hz LCD, +35% CPU & GPU, 8GB RAM, 128GB storage, Wifi 6GHz, USB 3.2Gen2 is an overall upgrade. Note: A18pro has better performance than M1, CPU performance is 10% higher than A17pro, and GPU performance is 20% higher.
    In other words, the performance of the iPad mini 7 is about 90% of the M1.
    Personal opinion: In a year, the iPad Air will be increased by $200 with OLED, and in 2-3 years, the iPad Mini will be increased by 200 dollars with OLED.

    I think it's a disappointing upgrade because it is coming in 2024, and it looks like Apple prioritised their own profits with this - they are using binned A17 pro CPUs from the iphone 15 pro - so one less graphics core, as these were surplus and they are not going to go into any other device (except expect them to maybe who up in an upgraded entry level Ipad?) They could have stuck an a18 in it, and improved the display to higher brightness mode maybe and made the bezels a little smaller

    Apple save money which they pass onto the customer when they manufacture a new device that is 95% identical to a device already in production. They updated the processor, RAM and flash memory in an iPhone 8, called it an iPhone SE 2 and sold it at a very attractive price. Now they have done the same with the iPad Mini 7 and have very unusually given the customer enough RAM and flash in their entry level device. This is the iPad that I would buy if I was in the market for an iPad.

    I still use my Samsung s24 Ultra more than I use my iPad mini 6. Even when you compare the iPad mini 7 to the s24 Ultra, I don't really get the use case of the iPad mini. Sure the screen is a bit larger on the iPad mini but it doesn't come close to the super AMOLED and 120 Hz on the Samsung phone. There is also a pen included inside the phone. It feels far more responsive, has more RAM, the speakers are just as good and I get to use it as a computer for multitasking when I plug it in to my display via DEX. I just don't understand the use case for an iPad mini at all unless you are replacing an Amazon Kindle but why even do that? At $500 it is overpriced. It shouldn't cost any more than $350 let's be honest. I'm afraid this is just another example of Apple ripping off it's simp customers. If the new iPad mini came with a good display then yes I get it. But this feels like something that Samsung would have made in 2018. It's just getting beyond a joke.

No one would buy the Pro if you could get a Mini or Air with the 120Hz display for $600.

      Apple sells $800 iPhones with 60hz why would they put 60hz in their $500 tablet?

  • @andyH_England
    @andyH_England 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    This is a great device for the right person, but it is currently selling barely 5 million units a year, making it one bad year away from potential extinction. With the rise of folding devices, larger phones, and tablets, its future looks uncertain.
    Apple has chosen to focus on affordability, keeping the price at $499. This decision limited their ability to make upgrades. I suspect they prioritized price due to demand metrics, knowing that a higher price could lead to a quicker decline in demand.
    For those expecting OLED and a 120Hz refresh rate, that was unrealistic. Apple only has Tandem OLED, which requires the M4 chip because of the display co-processor. Therefore, the possibility of including these features was never viable. Additionally, Apple could not use miniLED technology, as they could not produce 11-inch miniLED displays. Even an IPS 120Hz panel was out of the question since Apple doesn’t manufacture them and plans to phase out IPS in favour of Tandem OLED.
    Finally, the choice of the A17 Pro chip was influenced by using discarded binned yields that were not suitable for the iPhone 15 Pros. This allowed Apple to maintain the $500 price point while also reducing e-waste.
    So, when you understand how Apple works, all this negativity seems totally misplaced and more a reflection of people who really do not understand the reason the iPad mini exists.

    • @AlexGTech
      @AlexGTech  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      For real, they'd be excused for not releasing the iPad Mini this year and giving customers a decent mini next year. But these companies are getting so greedy that they'd rather ship cobbled together devices. It's not just bad that Apple is doing it, but them being such leaders can encourage others to do the same. I am seeing a similar thing with the Tab S series. They could have easily skipped the S9 or S10.

      @@AlexGTech I think as consumers we have to understand that the market for laptops, tablets and phones are now mature and that more and more it becomes about the price rather than having the latest and greatest features. I think many of us living in this recent age of technology innovation have now too high expectations as we enter a phase of iterative upgrades. So I get what Samsung and Apple are doing, they are trying to survive in a tech world where things are challenging. As consumers we have the choice to buy or not and as producers Apple has the choice to do what they think is best for their business. That difference will deviate from the median as we move into this new phase.

In 2019 Apple updated the mini 4, a 3.5 years old device at that point, to the mini 5 with 4 times the storage and 50% more RAM, plus pencil support, not only that, the CPU was 300% faster and 4 generation newer since it was the latest, while the mini 4 had an old one. That was a bigger upgrade than from mini 6 to mini 7. It's expected to have double the storage and/or RAM after several years, when a device was underspecced to begin with.... It's a shame I really wanted to get a Mini but all my devices are 120hz except from my work phone which is my old 12 Pro Max, and although I'd use that a few times a week, it's extremely noticeable now using a 60hz display, my eyes have fully adjusted to 120hz it takes away so much from the experience (even if that is just using Teams and outlook on the go) it puts me off buying one. Seriously apple how much would it cost to just add 120hz even on a LCD display.
