Hey Brad! this is really cool content. As ive mentioned before yea its an art channel, but dabbling in video games (which id argue is art as well lol) and how these devices you review can run games and other programs, is beneficial for a lot of people. Not everyone will use an ipad for just art, or just one particular thing, sometimes its nice to see that these devices handle other tasks well and really helps with making purchasing decisions. Some may find this review thinking "oh hey an ipad mini for drawing, meh maybe not" but then all of a sudden "Oh wait it can game too!" IDK just my opinion but I think integrating some of these little extra features and usage of these devices on your channel can really help some people out looking for content to help them make a decision on what are very expensive products.
Covering this that are a little off for the channel also keeps it interesting for me and gives me a chance to learn about stuff I otherwise wouldn't do a deep dive into.
This was a welcome crossover. Most art channels stay away from gaming (they're "artiste" after all and have no time for "silly games" 🤣) and most gaming channels stay away from art (most legit have zero art inclinations) so it's always almost a stab in the dark trying to see if any device would do both well. Thanks for giving both perspectives.
TH-camrs are strongly encouraged to stay in a single lane because the algorithm will only recommend their "main" content and branching off can legit cause you to lose visibility. Also gaming content honestly sucks for creators in general, it's extremely hard to get established with it and requires a level of investment that's just not justified by the returns.
@@KyussTheWalkingWorm Yes, I've heard that but I wasn't recommending Brad switch over to gaming but it's nice that he mentioned it. Most art tech equipment isn't gaming-capable anyway.
It's important to note that the A17 Pro in the Mini 7 isn't 1:1 identical to the iPhones version. The Mini 7 "only" has 5 GPU cores instead of 6 in the phone. Still 25% better than the Mini 6, but could explain the stuttering in games. Maybe just not optimized for it yet.

Ok, that tip on streaming PC games onto another device is what I've been looking for for YEEEEEEARS. and to think I found it by watching this video out of curiosity (I have an iPad pro 13 inch with no plans of buying the iPad mini). Thank you for making this video!
Not sure if anyone's mentioned it -- but the A17Pro chip in the iPad Mini is NOT the same A17Pro chip as was in the iPhone 15 Pro: it is a "binned" chip, missing one of the 6 GPU cores the 15 Pro has (5 GPU cores on the iPad Mini). That's why it's stuttering; missing significant graphics power compared to the phone.
7:15 It works on iOS, Apple just arbitrarily doesn't allow App store developers to use JIT, meanwhile their own Safari browser gets special permission to use JIT. When you enable JIT with other unofficial methods like Altstore, iOS can play stuff like Dolphin emulator and even emulate OSes like Windows 11 full speed. It's only Apple who arbitrarily doesn't allow it.
I really want JIT to be enabled. I have ditched my personal laptop and am carrying just my ipad and a work laptop around due to all the travelling that's involved in my job. I really enjoyed PS2 emulation on my laptop and would love to see that on my ipad pro. Also with UTM I feel like Ubuntu would be usable on Ipad pro and I could actually use it as a desktop replacement with a monitor and a keyboard if I ever need a desktop
Thanks for making this video, I’ve been on the fence about an IPad mini for school / drawing, but seeing the performance while gaming is genuinely good I’m a bit more convinced
Great video! I’ve been looking more into “entertainment tech” in addition to “functional tech” and it was great to see an in-depth review from a creator I already enjoy. It’s about time to retire my 6y/o iPad Pro and this seems like a reasonable option.

I love any video having to do with the mini. The stuttering of the game was disappointing… I believe in the incredible potential of the iPad mini specifically taking Apple to extreme heights for mobile gaming and also handheld gaming. It’s the perfect form factor. It’s a shame they just don’t give it the pro treatment and give it hand me down chips that are nerfed… it really needs a better display.
A little hint regarding streaming, there are GREAT forks of both Sunshine and Moonlight that allow for a more usable experience! Apollo, a fork of Sunshine allows for out-of-box multi-monitor setup using your secondary device. And then there's Moonlight-ZWM, which allows for multi-touch and shortcut support after connecting it to your PC, genuinely great, solves the pinch-to-zoom issue of the regular Moonlight, when trying to use it with your PC drawing programs, for example!
