    Ever thought of doing a top to bottom overview of the knife collection? All inclusive. Antique knives, show knives (if you have any), working knives, heavy working knives and absolute beaters. What I like about seeing your moras and hultafors is how heavily used they are. I aspire to a life that uses blades on a daily basis but the most knife work I do these days is pencil sharpening in my kindergarten room. I call them "Pioneer Pencils!" The kids not sure if they like it or not. Anyway, if you think that video would be too long, think again! There are many videos of knife collections that rack up tons of views. I've watched almost every Kuukkeli Bushcraft video and would happliy watch a nice long knife collection video. In fact, I would probably get a pizza and invite my brother over. He is knifey as well. Cheers, Tim! Be well and don't work too hard.

      My god, the hard part would be finding them all 😂. Maybe just a random selection. On the bus at the moment. Going away for a week, there was just 2 of us working on the farm recently. That number has just doubled and no more safaris so I am able to take a bit of a break. On the bus south right now. By the time I get back all the snow will be gone.

    Great review, as always, Thanx! Must say that have only good experiences from Marttiinis from the 90’s. Just found last week a Marttiini that could be one of my oldest knives, bought in 90 or 91. Used it in hiking trips etc. but later my father or somebody have been using it in renovation, construction. the spine has been smacked unformed with a hammer. But otherwise blade is totally usable, absolutely no movement in the handle, and even the sheath is ok. Maybe will do a restoration video of that actually:) Cheers!

      I forget how old I am, I am thinking 90/91 that's not that old, oh wait?? 🤔🤔. They do make really nice knives that do stand up to a lot of use. Some very nice looking knives too. I do wish that they used Finnish made blades more often though rather than French and German. More Lauri blades would be good. At least France and Germany is not China.

    Excellent review! I too am a wee bit biased towards Morakniv as well, but I think the Marttiinni is a half decent alternative for those who don't care for Mora's. I just realized that I wasn't actually subbed to your channel until just now; I have corrected my over-sight. Please forgive me for not subbing to you a long time ago. Good review, most Finnish knives I found have straight on spines. In some of my videos on the WOODSRUNNERS, I compare the slight drop point of the Swedish Mora to the puukko. Higher end Marttiini are well made and sharp ! Grizz 🐻

    • @KuukkeliBushcraft
      @KuukkeliBushcraft  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Definitely nowadays nearly all puukos have a straight spine, most of my older ones too. This knife certainly did come extremely sharp. One difference I didn't mention with the Mora is the Marttiinni is noticeably thicker.

    That Timberjack would make for a good all a round toolbox knife. If the tip chips off, grind a new one then back in the tool kit. LOL Them plastic sheaths sure didn't last long.

    • @KuukkeliBushcraft
      @KuukkeliBushcraft  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Totally right, the dodgy belt loop doesn't bother if its sitting in a tool box😂. A broken tip not hard to deal with either on a scandi grind.
      Very nice knife for the price.

  • @TheAnonymousSword
    @TheAnonymousSword ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I bought one when visiting finland and used it extensively for carving and typical woodstasks. I actually like the plastic sheaths more from a practical standpoint for you can drill holes in it and fit a lanyard through and you can wear it every way you want. Still my favourite woodsknife remains the skrama mini from varusteleka because that handle fits my Hand perfectly.

    • @KuukkeliBushcraft
      @KuukkeliBushcraft  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the plastic sheaths are very practical in many ways. Great retention, water not a problem ect. I just prefer a belt attachment with a bit more flex. The obvious way around this is just a simple paracord loop between the belt attachment and the belt. Other than that it is a great knife at that price, I didn't like how it felt in the hand at first. But it grew on me.
      Thanks for watching.

    I remember you bring up a rapala. In american walmarts they sell a martini knife that is branded rapala. They are fillet knives. Have a traditional scandinavian sheath I will have to show them someday I have had them for eons.

    • @KuukkeliBushcraft
      @KuukkeliBushcraft  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Marttiini is part of the Rapala company and has been for a while. I have often suspended that all companies are owned by other companies and everything really belongs to one big fat dude somwhere. I used to think he was American but am starting to lean towards thinking he is Chinese 😂. Don't take that seriously by the way mate, just me spouting nonsense.
      It does get really complicated though. Marttiini also have products made in Italy and China. Their axes are Italian and look to me to be made by Prandi. Does Prandi belong to Marttiini or just get paid to stamp Marttiini on their products. Also I heard wood Jewel belongs to Marttiini (and therefore Rapala) it all gets very complicated.
      Hopefully see your Rapala /Marttiini knives in a video something soon mate.

    Hi Tim, I've never handled a Martini knife, but I'm just not attracted to them the way I'm attracted to Mora. Also they are bit more expensive than Mora. Just not my cup of tea. You still have snow, and here in Tewkesbury was -1c yesterday, weather is going crazy 😂 Take care

    • @KuukkeliBushcraft
      @KuukkeliBushcraft  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Very normal that we still have snow here this time of year. We are often still dog sledding in early May. Looks like that's not going to happen this year though. In general Marttiini are just prettier and slightly more expensive Moras, very similar knives. The one in this video maybe even more Mora like than the others. Your in Tewkesbury? I have some very nice memories of that part of the world from a very long time ago😂.

    • @KuukkeliBushcraft

    @christopherdickson8307 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you for the video. I really like the Timberjack for the money but I wish it was a little longer. That plastic belt attachment is garbage! Marttiini should use the standard cheap black leather sheath they have for all the Condor models. BPS Knives makes a cheap lightweight leather replacement sheath for the Mora Companion, the Timberjack might fit.

    • @KuukkeliBushcraft
      @KuukkeliBushcraft  ปีที่แล้ว

      You actually can buy this knife with a leather sheath (wich I really should have mentioned in the video). It is however more expensive. For a few euros more you can buy a Marttiini lumberjack, wich personally I think is a nicer knife. Although I am a bit of a sicker for a traditional puukko 😂.
      You are right though, good knife, really bad sheath.

    I agree the handle on the Marttiini is not comfortable at all, i have 2 Marttiini knives, a chefs knife and a hunting knife and i cant use them for more than few min, on the other hand i can use the mora clipper all day. i do have an XXL hand this could be a factor. i think if i ever buy a Marttiini again it has to be a wood or G10 handle.

    • @KuukkeliBushcraft
      @KuukkeliBushcraft  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All of their traditional puukko style knives have very comfortable handles in my opinion. With both traditional puukkos and Mora knives the handle and overall design is really good and time tested. As for the more modern Marttiinis well maybe less so.
      Thank you very much for watching and for taking the time to comment.

    I have 3 of those knives. Good knife, but sheath leaves a lot to be desired. I use the sheath, but I use a nite ize #3 or 4 slide lock as a dangler. Makes the sheath actually work. 21 dollars on Amazon USA. Yeah, I have 4 Mora 840 clippers. Sometimes on sale for 14 dollars. Both are good knives.

    • @kv3515
      @kv3515 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, a great cheap knife, but the sheath isn't that great. Obviously can't expect to get everything for 14-19 euros that these cost here In Finland at the cheapest, but still... Its not like changing the sheath a bit would bankrupt Marttiini.

      That sounds like a great solution. You do often see people with puukos on carabiners and similar. I have used just a paracord loop on this kind of sheath in the past. That works too.
