Love your videos, friendly, honest and informative! I purchases that same model in my only (so far) trip to Finland a couple winters ago. The trip was for buisiness, and it was snowing heavily, so sadly I had little time to sightsee. That knife is one of my favorites! Simple design, it ages well with a little care. I use linseed oil or an orange oil/beeswax oil on the handle, and I ran my stones over the spine to polish and square the spine a bit. Looks great, gets really sharp with sandpaper and a jig I made.

I got a Finnish Wilderness Scout knife mainly for the finger guard, keep it very sharp and am learning so hey. Looks like a beautiful area and interesting shop will have to visit some day.
I am based about 300 km north of there. So if you do go give us a shout and I can give you some recommendations and maybe show you around a bit. All of Finland is beautiful but I think the North is the best bit.
I have a Martiini Lynx 132. It is my only puukko with a stainless steel blade. It is a beautiful knife, but I have not yet put it through its paces. Thank you for this video!

I like this model so much, I've just bought a second one. Not that I mind handles with a more 'polished' finish but these handles almost guarantee you won't slip, even if your hands are wet. Of course handle and sheath gets drenched in oil before the first use. ...Also helps to prevent the tang from corroding.

Oii, I was at the same laavu six years ago when I was in Rovaniemi. Marttiini knives are a good bang for the buck, not the best puukkos out there but nice utilitarian knives. Cheers, David

I just discovered your channel while searching for reviews on Marttiini knives. Instant subscribe. Do you recommend a Lynx folding knife for my first puukko? Only $24 (USD).
So sorry for taking so long to reply, only just noticed this comment now. I wouldn't really say that a folding knife could be considered a puukko. I have seen Martiini folders but am not too familiar with them, however if it has a scandi grind it should be good. For a stick tang puukko I would recommend the martiini Timberjack. However for a folder I would probably recommend one of the flat grind Ganzos in D2 or 440c. Hope this is helpful.
Full scandi I think. Was a long time ago I bought this knife and I have not bought any scandi grind Marttiini since but fairly sure they come with a 0 grind scandi.
That's their choice mate, I have knives that I won't batton too. I have seen many knives broken by battening including by Finns. I have never broken a knife in this way because I don't do it with thick or knotty wood. Still I could misjudge it one day expecially with a stick tang knife. That's why it is good to have an axe.
How well does the stainless lynx perform? Are they popular in finland? Ive noticed on their website the stainless has 53-55 hrc most knives over here in the us are tempered to a harder hrc, is there a reason they choose such a soft steel? Thank you
The stainless Lynx does seem to be very popular in Finland as are many martiinni models. I own 2 of their knives but both in carbon steel so I have no real experience of their stainless blades. But your right that is soft. I don't remember ever having serious edge retention on my carbon steeled martiinni blades. At least with a softer steel it will be easier to sharpen and less likely to chip. I would guess though the cost of the steel is a major factor in the choice of steel and also possibly one of the reasons that there blades are made in Germany and France rather than Finland. Another thing with the Lynx models is the handles are varnished which is not ideal as it is not as grippy as an oiled handle. The varnish also starts to chip off with time which looks rather ugly. Both of mine are not varnished models (it is of course down to personal preference but I don't like varnish). I have just looked at the website and they don't actually say the hrc of the standard carbon steel but the carbinox is at least a little harder. I don't hear people complaining about Martiinni knives, they generally have quite a good reputation here. My own experience has been good. I think the blade geometry is good, some of the handle styles are not really to my taste but there are plenty to choose from and they are pretty cheap. What a great looking knife and sheath (like you said in another of your vids). I would get as much stuff as you can while in Finland. I bought over £400 worth of stuff from Varustaleka but they advised me to buy £135 excluding vat as UK customs and the delivery company may add extra charges in UK. So I had to split my order into 4 separate packages. What is that about ? Good old Brexit 😂

I am sorry, I can't think of any Danish made knives. I am sure there are some good ones though but certainly not as well known as some of the Finnish ones.

But I like to compare knives to Moras, everyone knows what a Mora is. Besides I did say it was fancier than a Mora and everybody knows that Finnish knives are better 🇫🇮. Yes I live in Finland up in Enontekiö. Very glad to have another Finnish viewer. I am getting a much larger percentage of views from Finland nowadays, nearly as many as from the UK. Oil is always good. Particularly where the blade goes into the bolster. It is a nice puukko.

I don't think one of the reindeer people would beat on his generations old knife. It's meant for cutting flesh/hide, and for minor woodworking.

The Lynx lumberjack puukko retails at about 30 Euros in Finland, from the factory shop it cost 22 Euros.
