Transmission adaption reset isn't usually recommended on high mileage gearboxes on Disco 3 / LR3 in Europe. I've never heard of these relearn sequences from BMW, but hey, it can't hurt. The gearbox ECU continually monitors and adapts the valves and pressures so all the relearn does is speed that process up, but I've found resetting does make for bad shifts, but maybe that was because my gearbox was really needing a rebuild, which it got. It now has well in excess of 200,000 miles.
If you set a live value to watch the torque convertor lock up clutch you can detect early problems as it fails to fully lock. The lock up clutch operates in all gears, unlike earlier transmissions which only locked in top or over drive. and it really isn't up to it and they fail around 150k miles. The ZF6 speed 'box doesn't have a direct drive, as 4th is just under direct and both 5th and 6th are overdrive. The IID tool live values full set will allow you to choose a selection of values which will show Engine speed, turbine speed (in the convertor, trans side), gearbox output shaft speed, gear selected and torque convertor clutch status which is interesting to watch as you really can't detect while driving how much work that gearbox system is doing, completely seamlessly.
About the HVAC, there is also a motor reset procedure and a valve reset procedure in the GAP IID tool. I just performed the first (motor/flap one) on my 2016 LR4 last night and it did fix the rear/passenger ventilation. It was not blowing any air at all in the back seat before! I thought it was pretty cool that we can do that without even popping the hood up! Love the channel, keep it up from Montreal, Canada!!

I don't know what is more frustrating, having the knowledge to service that transmission like you did or having the patience to go through the relearn procedure.... holy moly that is so much to do! Can't imagine what you would have to pay to get a professional do that for you.

This procedure is very important and, having undertaken this on my D3 (LR3), has made my gearbox very nice to drive.
Within Land Rover SDD software, it has a complete chapter to undertake this process.

@@wafflesquare honestly the V8 is far more reliable than the TDV6. However fuel economy and the fact 99 out of 100 are diesels here in Europe, I'm exited to get this beast back on the road now that the odometer has reached 350.000km.

Quite an interesting procedure, and I'm thinking, if people don't have long roads, maybe jack up with heavy-duty jack stands. Weigh down with heavy weights and go slow.

On the GAP tool under live values you can watch 5 different adaptation values update as you run through these adaptation procedures. From someone who has done this twice, I’d love to see what values your rig ended up settling at. Mine are between 150 and 400 but I’m not convinced they’re “good” numbers

It's obvious you are putting a great deal of time into this channel and I hope it swiftly picks up subs. One question I have is, can this procedure be carried out on a rolling road in a workshop. Yikes… that’s quite the procedure. I wonder if they preload typical values into the software at the factory. I shall follow the procedure when I do mine.
It is quite involved for sure.
It should be a transmission adaptation upgrade via Gap Tool or LAUNCH X431 to install those re-learned settings in your garage in a couple of minutes, instead all those 2 hours re-learning procedure.

Thank you, Hugo. There were no transmission fault codes before the complete service. It was slipping noticeably between 2nd & 3rd gear. I have no plans to install Johnson Rods.

The last direction of Step 2 is not clear, am I to put the trans into 4th gear wen the vehicle coast to 50 mph , or should I let the vehicle slow to 40 mph and the shit to 4th and then accelerate to 45mph and shift to 5th to restart the Step 2 sequence?

Hi Mike. Great videos man. I've just upgraded the transmission oil pan and filter on my 5.0L LR4, replaced the seals for the valve body and changed the oil as well. I haven't done the adoptions yet. The suv feels a bit sluggish now. It doesn't have the same quick pull as it did earlier. Could this be due to the new oil in the transmission?
That would depend on how much friction material was left on the clutch plates in the upper area of the transmission. Was the bottom of the oil pan saturated with a thick gray residue similar to the consistency of pudding or peanut butter?

Because I live on the far south side of town, I used Las Vegas Blvd south of Saint Rose Pkwy. It becomes a very straight side road to I-15 with little traffic.

My transmission is done , and drive line hanger bearing, 2 thing still having issues the sport mode / command shift don't work it was like this before I put in transmission shop , in thinking shiftier bad or the electrical components in shiftier bad and also I have to remove console and shift knob and push white tab to get in gear , it might be the brake switch causing not going into gear , I told shop don't fix these things because I can find it , my lr3 is no spring chicken and previous owner stopped doing many simple repairs but not much information on sport mode issues for land rover , but the ones I did find was on BMW turning out to be broke wire , I keep you posted I be home Thursday evening

Hey thanks for updating on the tranny service video! So after you did the service it still jerked between 3-4? Even after replacing solenoids?
Initially yes but, as I demonstrated in the video, after completing step one, that went away. I have driven about 200 miles since completing this procedure and the transmission has remained very smooth.

What were the symptoms with the trans before doing the overhaul ? , i have a 2007 TDV6 D3 here in Australia and i'm having low gear, low speed shifting issues which i believe are valve body related. From a standing start especially if facing uphill the revs flare and take a few seconds to move then clunks into gear and then when coasting below 60kph i get a soft kick in the rear feeling then it will fault and go into limp mode with a P0730 incorrect gear ration fault and occasionally a 3-4 shift algorithm failure code.
Car has just over 220k klms and was a one owner never towed or used off road vehicle before i bought it, once into 4th gear acceleration is smooth .
Car is anything but stock now :)
As stated in episode three where I serviced the transmission, it was slipping between 2nd and 3rd gear.

did you check the temp settings are done the same the LR3 has different zones allowing both front seats to have their own temp setting

Just went through this (step 2 was difficult!) on my new transmission after having it replaced. It’s pretty good but not perfect. Is that how it should be? The shifts aren’t un-noticeable. You can tell when it shifts. There’s a slight bump or hesitation but it’s minor. Anyone else?
I would say drive it and let the computer naturally evolve the adaptations.
Hey buddy love your videos very helpful!! Question regarding suspension. So after calibration all 4 corners it failed to change the setting! Any idea why? I have recently replaced the compressor with Arnott and flashed it but I’m still getting the code C1A36-01 exhaust valve general failure ! Compressor runs for a while as soon as I hit the EAS switch amber suspension light comes on! If you could help me with this! Really appreciate it 🙏🙏
My GAP IID tool only had a choice of two compressor firmware options: Hitachi or AMK. All our strange error codes went away with the correct firmware. Therefore I would only use one of those compressor brands.

Do you maybe know how to reset the memory of the automatic transmission in Opel (Vauxhall) Astra J, 2.0 cdti 2012? Is it possible to disable learning or adaptation and set fixed settings? The car shifts perfectly when the memory is reset, but once it learns, it doesn't work well (it jerks when shifting into 1st gear at the moment of stopping, not when starting, and only in first gear).
No I have no experience with that.
I know this is an old comment but, being an American we don't have a lot of experience with Opel's or Vauxhall's as we don't get them here BUT if it's a ZF transmission it might require a software update, the 6HP transmissions were notorious for "butt kicking" when coming to a stop because they weren't originally programmed to handle wearing components.
Is it still shifting good? Mine jerks pretty bad in second gear sometimes. All other gears are generally okay. I suspect it’s a solenoid issue.
In episode three I did a complete transmission service. Then I set the new adaptations in this video. Now it shifts smooth. Really happy with the outcome.

The mechanic broke the plate and I have to change it.
ZF does not sell to owners and I will not buy from JLR.

I am preparing to enhance my lr3 look with both the defender side mounted ladder and gear storage box it looks easy to install but sense I don't have a defender I will need to modify my install, I have already removed my factory roof rails due to my front runner roof rack, I will need to move the roof rack to the side mark the hole to drill 2 hole in roof where the old rails ran , and use nut insert for a tight secure mount and I need to drill. 2 in quarter panel with nut insert for ladder I think the gear storage box is too short to drill 2 holes in quart panel but should be OK by just using the 2 nut insert from roof because the box is not heavy like the ladder , I also install a terrafirma rear tire swing out carrier a easy installation only problem I had be the typical man I didn't rear instructions and the terrafirma instructions suck , what I learn is to on final rear install rear bumper is to completely install bumper and snap the corners before drilling hole for rear Carrier bracket or the bumper corners won't come together I had to remove the Carrier bracket to get the corner on passenger side to snap back into place or you end up breaking off the body mount that snaps the rear bumper to the corner, my hole for carrier a little bigger but no big deal but it been nicer if my hole in bumper was perfect, there is a viedo on this terrafirma rear carrier that gives some good information but he left out some key final points that would have help me or anyone installed the same carrier its so important when making a how to diy viedos not to do shorts cuts but make sure keys points of any installation not left out my lr3 is turning heads
