Mike!!!!!!! You are the boss! This worked perfectly for me. I have a 2005 LR3 and used this video with your instructions to a tee. The only thing I didn't install was the parking break bypass, which I couldn't seem to find on e-bay. However as you mentioned a simple switch did the trick! I could not have done it without this, and even pro installers would have a hard time figuring this out and at a great cost. You rule, man! Reminder for anyone not very savvy that is doing this that the Alpine comes with a plastic protective piece for the fiber optic connection that might be misleading and confusing that the connector won't fit your car. That simply needs to be be pulled out with needle nose pliers, and remember to connect all of those black ground wires together. Fantastic again, Mike. THANK YOU!
Favorite comment of the day!! Thank you, Jeff. I’m so glad it was helpful.
I think the entire planet needed this video. Thanks!
Thank you so much!!! This has definitely been the hardest thing to figure out thus far in the series.
The previous owner of our 2005 LR3 said it cost him over $1000 to have a Pioneer head unit and steering wheel controls installed. The upper screen did not work, but that was also because he did the coil over shocks conversion.
I bought a wireless back up camera with a 7" screen, which fits almost perfectly in the frame around the upper monitor. It's secured with some industrial strength velcro. One thing I noticed is that your stereo surround is one piece. Mine is two pieces, split in the middle of the shelf in front of the upper monitor.
Absolute legend. Just got a 2007 LR3, Mike is currently MVP on TH-cam 💪
Favorite comment of the day!! Thank you, Thomas.
Did this to my LR3 back in the day. Wish I had done it the first day I bought it!! If you’re reading this go for it!!!!!
Love it! Thank you for sharing.
Hi Mike, thank you so much for your excellent videos. So meticulous and thorough. We have a 2008 RR Sport that we added an Alpine screen/head unit to. Had it professionally done at Mobile West car audio in Portland, OR. The install cost us $750. The 4x4 screen still works, but the old gps navigation does not (who cares now that there's CarPlay). Obviously Mobile West knows how to keep the 4x4 screen working. May be worth a call. Thanks again for your great content. Because of your videos, I plan to take over some of the maintenance for our Rover.
Thank you for the tip!!
Thank you so much for the level of detail that you go through in all of your videos. You make TH-cam LR3 videos a better place.
Favorite comment of the day!!
Another really great video! I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your careful, step-by-step instructions. I don't think I'm quite a confidence level where I could now install this. That is a function of my personal lack of confidence and not your instructions!
Frank, thank you for your kind words.
so glad people make videos on there LR's Cheers!
Thank you, Yani. I hope it was helpful.
This was amazing! Thanks so much for putting in the time to figure this out.
Favorite comment of the day!! Thank you, Ted. I’m so glad it was helpful.
This is fantastic. Thanks for figuring this out and sharing!
Matt you are very welcome. I hope you find it helpful.
Another Steelers fan doing good in the world. Here we go Steelers! I have been looking into getting an LR3 and found your channel last night and watched the first 3 videos and don't even own one yet. As a result of that I feel a hell of lot more confident in getting one.
Thank you, Dan!
Your videos are very helpful. I love your level of detail - very meticulous. Thank you.
Thank you for the compliment. I’m so glad it was helpful!
I have been waiting for this video for two months. Nice!
Thank you for your patience! It was a lot of research followed by trial and error.
The best LR3 channel. Thank you!
Nikiii thank you so much!!!
Thank you Mike. This is very useful. I am trying to figure out how this can be done in my L322.
I’m so glad it was helpful.
Amazing vid as always.
Thank you so much!!
Hey Mike! Long time no see!!!!Excellent video!!!! Much needed update 🏋🏻🏋🏻
Thank you JB!!
Quality video as always. You are a very patient man lol
Thank you, Simon.
Great job! It looks really nice. My 2006 is an SE but it was nicely optioned including the rear locking differential. But it did not include the nav screen which also displays the 4x4 info where I have a cubby storage instead. I installed a 7” wired/wireless CarPlay unit that fit nearly perfectly. I wired power, rear camera, and an aux cable that I ran under the center console to the rear aux input. So my unit acts like a receiver and the stock radio is the amplifier with steering wheel volume retained. I can’t change songs with steering wheel but I can use Siri, the phone, or the CarPlay unit. I have a front camera that I haven’t gotten around to install yet. In retrospect, I wish I had installed the rear view camera to an ignition-switched power source instead of the reverse lights. It would be nice when the LR3 is fully loaded to use it instead of the rear view mirror. I may switch it
I will definitely be hooking both front and rear cameras to ignition power so they can be called up at any time.
Hi mate, there are folks that have used an MB Quart NPW-254 subwoofer in the factory tailgate location with an AudioControl 300.1 amplifier. This would be a killer video as no one has yet video detailed the install.
Matt thank you for sharing. I don’t know what any of that is but it sounds fantastic. My daughter, however, doesn’t need anything more than stock speakers for her first car.
I believe you can retain the off road display by separating the stock head unit. Most of the unit is taken up by the faceplate and the CD changer. You can separate the guts of it and connect that to retain the 4x4 display information. There is information online of others who have done it. I separated a non working radio and it's not too bad but it was just to see how it went apart and not to install.
Thank you Sunny! I am excited to try that!
@@wafflesquareplus 1 as also heard that and think it was on the discovery 3 forum , know u can get the most ( orange leads ) bypass leads for the amp , alas though I’m not sure if that works the same , seen them being sold on eBay , fingers crossed the mod as suggested by @anothersilver works for u, all the best from across the pond in the Uk, Gary
THANK YOU
Zack you are very welcome.
Outstanding work, really very well done and thanks for sharing! It’s a shame about the 4x4 screen, I nearly went and bought everything to do this myself until I got to the end of your thoroughly detailed video! If you find a solution with the in-car tech harness will you be posting a fix video?
Yes absolutely.
@@wafflesquare I look forward to it!
After a bit of research, you can get adapters to solve this problem but it's not cheap.
If you have the Logic 7 stereo, you need a FK-853-6 fitting kit, Amplifier fitting kit AK-LR-01, NAVAMP interface 10-651 and for reversing camera a Fakra to male DIN 21-123.
You then remove the original stereo, take it a part, getting rid of the bulk, then plug in the new cables, hide the remains of the original head unit in the dash and fit your new head unit.
That's the short version but it leaves you with working 4x4 screen, navigation, all speakers and steering wheel controls.
Hope this helps.
We are looking at doing this unless further research finds an easier option.
Thank you so much!
Hi, another great video , wish to also update my radio , mines a base model so doesn’t have the satnav screen like your good self , wish to either get a 7” screen for the top of the dashboard to work as a satnav , ie waze or Tom Tom, or a double din satnav / radio with a cd player, am old school and still like my cd’s , lol , thks again and always look forward to ur excellent videos , all the best , Gary
Gary thank you for your kind comments!!
Brilliant video as always Mike.
I love the clear concise way you explain each step.
I watched intently as I was considering an up grade on my 2006 LR3.
Then I priced it up😱
I can't justify over $1000 to buy both the Alpine and the Scorche kits so I'm stuck with the stock items for the time being.
I paid $629 on Amazon for the Alpine Deck, backup camera, and Scosche kit. Where are you pricing them for $1000?
My usual go to place, Ebay.
Hi Mike did your installation retain the functionality of the factory Satnav screen?
I answer that question in the video.
@@wafflesquare my bad Mike, I didn't watch all the way to the very end,
the old headunit is the brainchild for canbus data to show on the top display. i believe people leave the old headunit connected somehow while the new one is strictly wired for audio.
Yikes!! That’s a big deck to try and hide somewhere under the dash.
@@wafflesquare I read a post somewhere that there is a specific module within the stock headunit that may be able to be left in place instead of needing to hide the entire head unit. Someone said the guys on the UK forums had figured it out, but I have yet to discover that post/information anywhere.
Actually you split the head unit and the MOST interface is what you hide behind the climate controls. There is a company in UK that makes the screen retaining kits, InCarTec.
@mattdisalvo6594 fingers crossed someone sends a link or I can find it!!
@@wafflesquare Try and do a search for InCarTec 29-712 and you'll find it. There is instructions also on that page.
Hi Mike, I've been meaning to ask - aside from youtube videos posted by others, how do you research your Rover repairs. It's obvious (admirable - enviable) that by the time you start filming you have become VERY well educated about what to do. I do much the same with various DIY and repair projects, but I'm a relative novice at Rover and auto repairs. Now that we have two Rovers - 2008 and 2009 Sports - I am determined to do whatever repairs are within my ability (several of which you have covered brilliantly). So any resources you would be willing to share? Thanks again for your excellent videos. All the best.
I always read the owner’s manual which is a surprisingly good resource. I also go online and find a shop/repair manual and review the section pertaining to the issue I’m addressing.
Great Video tutorial as always. Question. My kids like to listen to their music in the third row via the Headphone jack. Can they select an audio source independent of the driver? Example: Driver is Playing radio Passenger is listening to Aux.
Great question. I don’t know. We do not have second or third row headphone jacks to my knowledge.
@@wafflesquare we have a 3.5 jack on the second seat, our cup holders
Isn’t that the auxiliary input rather than a headphone output?
So with this installation do only the front speakers work (since you're connecting the front RCA outputs to the MOST and stock amp)?
All speakers work including the subwoofer. The amplifier distributes the one L/R signal throughout the speakers. In the “sound” menu of the Alpine deck you can control the balance (left/right) but not the fade (front/back).
@@wafflesquare That's good to know, I guess the amp has some logic built in that if no rear signal is received to use front signal on all speakers.
Great video, thanks! The only thing that is stopping me from doing this is the head unit trim piece doesn't match the grayish trim on the entire front instead its black and looks "Aftermarket". Any way around this ? Does anyone make a matching color
The aftermarket trim pieces could easily be spray painted with a color closer to the original.
Does anyone know the exact color of the original trim ?@@wafflesquare
Why don’t you use the original microphone from LR (assuming you had the bluetooth option) The mic works well and it is already in the center of head liner. Maybe you should check if it is there.
There is not a microphone jack on the back of the original deck on our vehicle.
Hi, I installed the system and it works fine. Later I found out that I cannot use "i" button in SETTING mode. Do you have any solution?
Did you bypass the parking brake sensor?
@@wafflesquare No
I followed your instructions entirely
I purchased and installed a parking brake sensor bypass kit. Have you done that?
@@wafflesquare Yes I purchased and installed
Could you change your settings?
Please find a solution for the upper screen functions😢
Apple car play is available for upper screen swap
Where i find it??@@dieselburner4461
to get the top display working you need to reinstall the original headunit. and connect. just need to power it up. unfortunately the brains of that display is inside the headunit. could mount in the glovebox etc
Thank you, James!
This would be a cool project to see. Losing the 4x4 screen is the thing keeping me from an aftermarket head unit. But this video is impressive enough that I’m even rethinking that.
Great job and I’d love to see the 4x4 screen back.
Has this been done elsewhere?
I’m hoping to regain that functionality.
I will follow the directions in this link to reduce the stock head down to just the required component: incartec.blob.core.windows.net/instructions/29-712.pdf
th-cam.com/video/PBRl1tlz0vQ/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared
This is another and quicker and probably cheaper way to get car play but it's not integrated but means it is portable between vehicles though 😱
Great video! I could definitely see that being an option for people to consider.
@@wafflesquare It's an option just not an integrated and factory looking fit like yours 😁👍🏻
Is there an update to this video? I can see from the comments below that there is at least one solution that seems to be tested. I hope this gets figured out and I look forward to another video...hopefully soon!
Great content, great video!! Keep them coming!
Thank you, Jonathan. No guarantees on a solution but I’m hopeful.
