I enjoyed your review, nice job! You are absolutely right about the doors feeling cheap. The only other thing that bugs me about this car are the interior rattles, but that's just part of owning a subaru. I love mine so far, it's a ton of fun.
John's S2K I hunted down my rattle and fixed it. Passenger door window switch and lock. Took off door panel and used electrical tap to secure switched firmly
Love my 2017!! 3rd owner and last. She's a keeper and no rattles here. I personally love the sound the doors make when they shut. All around great car!!
I actually test drove a new WRX this weekend. I wouldn't say its absolutely amazing. It is nice, however it is almost gutless from idle to 3000RPM. After that there is plenty of power, but if you're just daily driving it and keeping the rpms low its not any more powerful than Honda accord 4 cyl. The handling is more impressive than the power. It is still a great all round car, very cool guages and digital boost gauge, id get it over a GTI !
Agreed for the most part. I do get better gas mileage out of mine than you said though...usually get around 28-30mpg per tank...that is a combo of city and hwy. My previous generation I got around 22-24mpg, no matter how I drove it. Also for the haters of this generation...I Have owned 2 previous generations before this one and hands down this one is the best IMHO.
It's an amazing value for sure, and a unique combo of AWD, stick and turbo (at least in USDM). Interior quality is better, but it still rattles like crazy. Cobb Stage 1 is a must have though.
Did you lose a lot of low end torque and pull after the stage 1 tune? Does it make you give up most of the low end power and add it to the top end to even it out? Do you go from really good pull at the bottom and none at the top to just a decent pull all the way?
Well, I’m 5 years late… but incase you haven’t found it by now, there should be a trunk button right there in the middle where you’d typically think it would be, it’s just kind of discreet
It's not really to much to say that it's the best wrx or better considering all other wrx's before still running are all exactly the same lol they finally did something new and I do freaking love my 2016 wrx
The cars interior is really nice. I love the way it drives. Aside of an Audi S4, it's the zippiest compact sedan I've gotten into. I'm not too fond of the exterior styling though....not to sound biased, but the only way to describe it would be a bit Asian/Hipster to me. Definitely a car with a certain niche (not really for a 47yo engineer like me). Aside of the styling, the one thing I am really not fond of is the road noise. This is a very noisy little car on the highway compared to almost every other compact car I have driven. Even my old 2005 Corolla is less noisy.
Y’all fucking complaining about gas try owning a Jeep and driving like your foot is made out of the densest metal in the world, yeah I get 5-9 a gallon so 20 or up is amazing
Wth where is my trunk button? I have a '16 limited. I can only open it via the remote or the button inside the car. Or is the trunk button only on the '17 limiteds?
RocketsonDeck there's a trunk button next to the license plate light on the trunk lid and there's a button in the car next to the steering wheel. I have a '16 Limited. Hope this helps!
@@TorqueJunkies Just bought my first WRX and it will be delivered by thursday. 2017 premium 6 speed. Alot of fun even though I only drove it on a long test drive. Super excited.
Biggest problem with a stock WRX is it has no top end speed. There are lots of V6 sedans that will keep up or pull on a WRX on the highway. Even the STi gets beat by a lot of V6 sedans on the highway. They really are stop light racers where you can take advantage of the awd. But up top (over 80 mph) the car really slows down.
Both are still faster than 95% of cars here in the midwest, even on the interstate. The STI in particular is no slouch above 80. Lets be real though... no one needs to be racing on the highway much above 80 because it's irresponsible.
The small turbo and crap tune are the reasons for that. A tune (Off the shelf or otherwise) will help with the weak top end. Also the stock Boost Control Solenoid sucks. A better aftermarket replacement is about 150 bucks.
The stock tune is garbage, and I am convinced that it hinders the WRX stats. I am riding stock for the warranty, but cannot wait for the day I get tuned.
@@TorqueJunkies I ended up leasing one lol. A 2018. I like it but kinda wish i didn't get one. For one, it's slow. 2, it has terrible gearing. You're constantly changing gear. If you're in the wrong gear, you bog. The car makes a shit ton of noise. Tire noise, cabin noise (little rattles already for a 2018) and the engine noise too. It's not a good sounding engine. Sounds like a vacuum cleaner with some pebbles inside it. The only thing is that it was good to have last winter so i look foward to using it again this winter. And also it gets good MPG. So even with the shitty gearing, i still manage about 26mpg both city and highway driving combined. The good news is that i have 2 years left on my lease, i don't think i'm keeping this car. I hope subaru puts out a DCT for the next generation wrx. Then i'm getting that.
Chris I mean they’re pretty much made for aftermarket mods. And get a better exhaust, even just an axel back, and it brings out a better grunt. Also if you do a stage 1 or up tune it helps with the shifting and rev hang and all that. If you leave it stock you prob won’t like it as much unless you’re a subie enthusiast. And idk about slow.. I mean it’s obviously not the fastest car ever but that low end torque is really nice to take off. I’ve raced plenty of people on the highway and beat and/or kept up with most of em and mine was just stock. Idk I’ve always loved subie’s growing up since I’ve been around em all my life cause of other people having em.
mavsman 7 oh man! That is a tough one! I'm biased towards the GTI and I love how dynamic the GTI in the fact that it does everything well. However as far as performance the WRX is hard to beat. Honestly I'll go with the GTI
He got the gti in black and then posted 5 things he hates about it . Wrx doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not. Gti is just Mexican and without long term reliability . Only transmission is from Germany . Wrx is all Japanese .
I have the 2016 wrx, I’m not impressed at all. I had a better sound system in a 1996 dodge neon back in the day. Seats are super uncomfortable. Could use more hp, for being a turbo and pushing 20psi boost it’s kinda weak. 🤷🏼♂️
More HP? Name one other car thats only 25k new that has 268hp lol You just don't know how to drive it right. Don't know how to hold your boost through the shifts. Idk what you expect from a 25k car, its not a Hellcat. For the price its pretty quick.
I put a thumbs down because of how annoyingly frustrating it is watching you blocking out the license plates in the first three minutes. You do understand that license plates are exposed every second of the f****n day.
how could you possibly say what a great car the 2017 car is in 2017, the car isn't even a year old, yet. Here we are three years later and the JD Power rates the cars reliability at a 2.5 stars. the car is junk. lol
Gas mileage is a lot better than its rated. I easily get 24-26mpg with mostly city driving. But I also dont drive like a 16 year old
packerfan43042 do you use premium?
yes, i was really surprised how good the gas mileage was for a AWD car. During the break in period I was able hit 30mpg during a couple tanks.
packerfan43042 nice! I'll have to let my buddy know who let me review his WRX
Im averaging 29 mostly highway. Stay out of boost most the time
For 45 mph road and 20 mins drive when I try to drive like grandma I get 42 mpg lol!
Should be called Wind Junkies
lmao, solved that problem!
You ain’t lying I just bought wrx subaru last week 2017 I’m second owner I love it
Seriously recommend this for a first car for a car enthusiast, think about this for some coming-soon purchases
Clinks & Clangs should be the title of this post. Lol, great job bro I actually pulled the trigger and picked mine up today.
+Ty W wow! Congrats bro! I love the car 🚗
Ty W I like the clinks and clanks :)
Great video man. I just picked up a used 2017 WRX limited with a 6 speed manual. I'm loving it!

My car rattle's too but with far less horsepower

Torque Junkies true! It might be my next car since i live in upstate NY. Either wrx or a 2012 or 2013 audi a6 3.0T, i like those too
Drive315 ahh the A6 is beautiful
I did go with this over a GTI. I cross shopped them for almost 6 months lol
@@Drive315 hey a fellow upstate New Yorker what did you wind up getting?
Props to Subaru for giving the people what they deserve

I’m thinking Hawkeye STI or 2015+ wrx so idk what to get I need good mpg but also good performance hp-tq
28-30mpg per tank?!

want people to notice, he hit 60 in 2nd gear, beautiful car
my trunk does have a button.. maybe the limited has more stuff.
+LastHumansGarage yeah I checked, it does
Torque Junkies where is the button?
I can't wait til next summer when I can upgrade. Either gti or wrx either way gonna be fun everyday
I absolutely love my 2017 WRX !
I am going to buy one next year 2018 WRX model. They are nice cars to drive

The Limited has a trunk button.
Brandon the Great oh I see, that should be standard

Brandon the Great I checked mine and I don't have a button on the trunk. That's so weird
EXCELLENT review! I have a 2017 WRX Premium & the car is a beast. The WRX is a fun car to drive all year round!
+Jeff Larson Thank you! I couldn't agree more, what a fun car. Very solid

BLACK05GO1 that might be true but there aren't many times I'm going over 80mph anyways. Acceleration is more useful for everyday driving.

BLACK05GO1 stock tune from factory is pretty conservative. With some bolt ons and a pro tune. these WRX can put down some good power.
The small turbo and crap tune are the reasons for that. A tune (Off the shelf or otherwise) will help with the weak top end. Also the stock Boost Control Solenoid sucks. A better aftermarket replacement is about 150 bucks.

Great review Hector.

You think this is a lot better than the MK7 GTi? For daily
Have a shot for every time he says "I mean"🍺🍺🍺
Jason Bourne hahahaha! When I edit my video for this week I'll make sure to put a beer emoji every time I say I mean lol
You couldn't double check the title before uploading? Spelling isn't hard.
They definitely have a trunk button.

This.
Rev to 5k, dump clutch, shift 1st at redline hold 2nd till 60.
If you dont stretch 2nd and shift to 3rd, it'll do in 5.5
Clings and Clanks!!! Hell yeah brother
Is it still worth it to get a second hand of this?
All i hear is wind noise. better audio next time plz
josh cline I just bought a lavelier mic 🎤 should take care of the wind problem
My Honda civic will outlast two of these cars. But that doesn't make me not wanting to sport around in this little hotrod.
Did they finally tune these for regular or do you still have to use premium gas?
Still have to use like 93

VW? No Thanks. Ask people who work on cars for a living....none of them will tell you that want a VW over a Subaru.
Search on "dead cat microphone", easy fix for all the wind noise.
You really need to do voice over or get better locations/equipment. This was so hard to watch with the horrible audio.
Since this video, I did upgrade.
Wow!!! You rock 🍎

I recently got my 2017 WRX, i want to make it louder, what should i do to it exhaust wise??
Josh Bigornia check out indivia. It's a great exhaust upgrade for it
Josh Bigornia nameless muffler deletes!! Sounds amazing!
Josh Bigornia if all you are looking for is sound. an axle back muffler delete is all you need. i am looking to get one for my 17 WRX.

West Palm Beach !
tyre and wind noise just putting me off
