You lost me at no wrx has looked good. This is the generation wrx that actually got me interested in the wrx. I saw it one day on the road and I loved it so much and it caught my eye. It's very striking I think and sporty. So I disagree with you on that, I think a lot of people like this generation.
Totally cool to disagree with me but the fact remains that Subarus, in general, aren't the flashiest looking vehicles out there, but that's part of their charm.
CarBuzz - Unboxing Everyday Cars and Supercars if none of the generations have been good looking then the WRX and STI would have stopped manufacturing a long ass time ago lol. That's a dumb comment. You can't tell me people just buy subie a for their performance. They buy them for their looks and performance
You do yourself a disservice as a journalist by mislabeling your opinion as a "fact". Even if you feel certain about your opinion, it's still not a fact. Also, it's a "boost gauge", not a "gauge boost"...
Good video, but glossing over the fact that this car is available with a CVT really only serves to feed petulant trolls who probably won't ever own this car anyway, assuming the average person that hurls insults over other peoples' transmission preferences is even old enough to drive...
CVTs have definitely come a long way over the past few years, but I still experience some rubber banding, which I find insanely annoying. I think the WRX (and STI) are best suited for a manual, at least for now.
Yeah I'd definitely get the manual if I got it. I keep hearing 2018 is gonna have some substantial changes done to it so I wanna wait but at the same time I can't lol
what would you expect for a car thats under 40k? they focused more on the performance not so much on the interior, u want a quality interior with the same performance, that would puts you to like audi or bmw that cost 50-60k with the same performance
After years of hard working, and dreaming of having this kind of car. I am finally making my dream reality. I am currently in the process of Purchasing this exact model but in kind of Black/Grey. I really hope the bank accepts to loan me. Fingers crossed
It's not ugly, and it's not gorgeous. let's just say it's polarizing...and that's what i like about it. some of the best music and art is polarizing and that's what gets people talking and i'd say that to be true for cars as well.
I hate it when punks say "only buy a manual". I get it, this car is more fun with a manual. But that may account for 10% of the time you drive it. For most this is a daily driver and having the convenience and practicality of a cvt can make this car more of a balance bewteen fun and commuter. Don't knock someone down because of some ignorant notion that they're getting an inferior car. We all have different needs and wants in a vehicle.
Nice in-depth review. So when you drove the 2017 CVT version, what did you not like about it? I have a Golf TDI that I am getting rid off, and am looking at the the WRX, but the wife will not allow a manual, so it would be the CVT or nothing. In this case, would you just suggest something else, and not even consider the CVT?
this dude is being way to picky for a car thats base is 27K. Yea i get it the one here is almost 38K, but dude it's a Subaru....you have too much expectations. And like someone said, once you said no wrx has looked good you lost all your credibility for reviewing cars
I'm pretty happy with my 2015 WRX so far. I have this wonderful rattle that began around a month ago in upper front passenger ceiling area. I HATE the cup holders in center console. If you place a coffee mug in there it doesn't have the rubber to hold the mug in place therefore when you have a full mug or water you must hold it while going over some rough terrain or face spillage.
The competition for the WRX is not the Golf R and Focus RS. The competition is the GTI and the Focus ST. WRB is a nice color but just about everyone has it that's why I bought the pure red. As for looks, the GTI and the Golf R looks boring and as plain as can be! I think the WRX looks good especially after a few mods. Look at mine: instagram.com/pitties_a_wrx_and_more/
Lol, a gauge boost. He'll get it down after a few more vids. Also might help if he's genuinely into cars. But to the main point, I friggin want this car!
This model is 30kplus tax tested. The current manual transmission is a slush sandbox in the wrx but the wrx sti comes with a higher quality manual transmission.
Yeah, I gotta agree with you on your comment. Lost me at it doesn't look good. I like the wrx body style 2017 and older. Not real fond of the newer ones. I just traded for a 2017 and I love it. Way this guy keeps dogging a car he claims he loves sounds like he needs to buy a grandma Lexus that's fully loaded and more tame. These cars were not designed to be all glitter and glammer. It's a sports car disguised as a 4 door sedan, as per insurance looks at it which keeps premiums down a little. This goes with all cars tho. You either like the car or don't.
You said it had the sti performance package but where were the black wheels and the sti shift knob? Or did it only have the exhaust and short throw shifter?
CarBuzz - Unboxing Everyday Cars and Supercars Not sure where it is said in the video... But Brexit has not taken effect yet and Europe and European Union are not the same thing..,
I have a WRX (16') and personally I'd say the RS and the R are at least a step above the WRX and should be compared more to the STI. While the STI is good, it isn't quite as refined as those two but should be getting a refresh for 2018 and I'm curious what they bring.
If I was going to spend 37k why would you not get a STi, RS, or Golf R? I'm very interested in buying a 2018 STI. Alittle more power, less weight, and better mpg's
focus rt and rs are the competitors. and honestly the focus rs is so much more your money's worth. sorry my fav subie gen in terms of looks were the hawkeye and meaneye.
Nobody buys a WRX for the appearance of the interior. The Focus RS or Golf R are 40k+ cars. They are not direct competition for the WRX. And who the hell wants a lame station wagon? WTF ? You want a wagon to take your kids to day care???? You don't buy this car for looks or to take your kids to day care. You buy a WRX for performance, value and superb resale value.
It is absolutely not even close to that. When the engine is heating up it sits between 1500-2000rpm and once heated, it drops to 500-750rpm. This reviewer is a complete joke who has obviously done no actual research into these cars. I'd know, I previously owned a 2004 WRX and now I own a 2016 WRX. He states his opinion as fact (All Subies are ugly) which immediately lost me and loses him credibility as a reviewer. The fact that he compared the WRX to a an RS Focus and a Golf R further shows that he has done no research. It's direct competitors would be the Golf GTi and Focus ST. The STi competes against the RS and R, not a rexy. What more can I say other than "gauge boost".
look up the definition of review, sitting in a parking lot looking at buttons and features, is not a review you should probably drive the car and use its features to call it a review. ( maybe the back seat and styling can be called a review but nothing else can)
From certain angles it's god awful, but from certain other angles it's sexy to me. I think the STI looks very weird this gen because of the way the spoiler is mounted. I also like the engine in the 2017.
While I think they look nice, there is more work to be done. I would like it to be a bit more of a widebody kind of look with more pronounced body lines and curves and also throw on the STI spoiler or make WRXs have their own unique spoiler and it would be GORGEOUS! Just my opinion. Also the CVT WRX is great as a daily for someone who has high traffic areas or a spouse who doesnt drive stick. Dont shit on it out of the gate without considering the market it is filling or without at least stating why you think its not good. Just some food for thought. Either way still solid content 💪
$37k for a WRX is literally crazy. Subaru has got to be losing their mind to charge that much for something without an STI badge on it. Nevermind the fact that the interior still looks like it's 10 years old.
Wayne Wildman yes, you purchased a base model. This video is not a base model. A fully loaded limited with leather seats, sunroof, Harmon Kardon stereo system, etc, is listing for around $37k. Go ahead and go on the Subaru website and build a WRX with literally everything on it and you will realize that I am correct.
+Gregory Lopes You can get a Limited starting around $30K MSRP. I know cause I bought one. No, the interior doesn't looks like it's 10 years old. And, most people buy this car for 4-doors and the performance. I could have bought a GTI with its nicer interior but I went for the performance instead.
This is a sport car? I thought that this was one of the safest cars on the planet! Commercials really lie sometimes, and I thought that this was going to be the first car I was going to get because it was described the safest. But did you really mean that this is a sport car? I have no idea what a sport car is but I do know that sport cars are used for racing and showing off. Wait, is it used for showing off how it looks? I know this is a very long sentence/paragraph but I just was very curious and just wanted to get out there. So please, answer me. Also I noticed that you said that it was slightly not good looking so showing off is off the list but, at least it's good looking for me and also, you have a very great voice.
Question, when you're doing your heel-toe down shifting, during "play" time are you monitoring your gauge boost...terrible review man honestly this was a butchering of an awesome car by someone who clearly knows nothing about this vehicle.
Poor promoting of a great car they should be ashamed hope someone at capitol Subaru - dgdg.com understands this. This is an "unboxing" correct with that being said it should be all the things that make his car great not one persons (uneducated on the car at that) opinions of said car ? Potential consumers might turn to this as something to sway them to purchase or not so someone saying avoid the cvt is beyond foolish and saying the car is basically ugly is terrible really come on thank god i didn't watch this before i bought my wrx
your opinion isn't worth anything, when I look for reviews of any make or model , I seek owners of such cars , not some uneducated product announcer who shames the brands you don't like, and exhaults the brands you do like, try being unbiased. perhaps change your channel name to CarBuzz Kill
I just watched a video that shows the 2017 impreza looks way different and has a hatchback. Maybe i'm just sounding dumb here, but i can swear the car looked way better and came with a hatchback version of this car. Now its just the regular version of the impreza and not the WRX (which could mean its different) but the regular version actually looks great and i wanted to buy one. That makes me think this is the 2016 and not the new 2017 which got a face lift. Here is a link to show you what i mean. th-cam.com/video/FOap1lkwtAk/w-d-xo.html If im wrong then let me know here lol. Because i'm very interested in this car as well with the 2017 Kia Optima SXL, and the fully loaded TOYOTA camry V6 version of the car.
I'm guessing its just a lot different because this is the impreza and the other one is not. Kind of sucks because they're almost different cars and the regular impreza looks a little better especially the inside and the color of the speedometer is blue and not red which i prefer.
Right, that video is for the base Impreza - not the WRX. Furthermore, it's for the redesigned 2017 Impreza. The next-generation WRX and WRX STI are at least a year or so away.
I'm obviously biased, but my GTI makes the WRX look like shit. While I don't have AWD, the mechanical limited-slip differential does almost all the things I'd want an AWD system to do. Also, the interior is absolute shit on the WRX, the paint quality is TERRIBLE, and they rattle like crazy. It's a fun car, but it's more for fanboys more than real drivers.
I am biased too, but my WRX looks better. While I do have AWD, it does everything a FWD can't do which is most everything. My top speed is not governed I can turn off my traction control fully, better reliability higher resale value. The paint is not as good as your GTI I must say, no rattles yet though. Not a fan boy just a car guy, Mk7 GTI are very nice cars enjoy your purchase because I am enjoying mine.
David T. haha my gti never caught anyone's attention. in the 3 years I've owned my mk6 maybe 3 people said nice car. wrx in the year I've owned it probably over a 100 .
Tuscani011 There's a difference between fanboys and real fans... I don't go by others' opinion of my car. It's easy to say "nice car" when you don't own it.
David T. you just said my gti made wrx look like shit lol. personally I don't mind the wrx looks nor gti. you prefer the looks I prefer the performance and looks. god bless you bro
You lost me at no wrx has looked good. This is the generation wrx that actually got me interested in the wrx. I saw it one day on the road and I loved it so much and it caught my eye. Sean Carney literitally, in my opinion one of the best looking cars.
You do yourself a disservice as a journalist by mislabeling your opinion as a "fact". Even if you feel certain about your opinion, it's still not a fact. Also, it's a "boost gauge", not a "gauge boost"...
+Raymond Hitchcock I wish they still made the EVO.
This model WRX looks good and the CVT is a great daily.
I think it is quite good looking but then again beauty is in the eye of the beholder
So true.
Good video, but glossing over the fact that this car is available with a CVT really only serves to feed petulant trolls who probably won't ever own this car anyway, assuming the average person that hurls insults over other peoples' transmission preferences is even old enough to drive...
Love my WRX :)
NinjaxBart Me too.
You lost me at "Gauge Boost"
AND THEN HE SAYS REALITY HERRITAGE... THIS GUY IS A LAME
"Gauge Boost"
"The exterior looks boring"
lmao
did you just say no wrx generation looked good ..
Yes. Yes I did.
lmfao.. 2014 wrx was beautiful. My fav year. I love these new ones as well. Personal preference I guess.
I love how smooth CVT's are would be interested in driving one. manual can get annoying as a dd after a while..
He doesn't know what he's talking about. The wrx has always been an awesome car!!
This guy's a smack. The styling is great. We don't need a hatch.
I
what would you expect for a car thats under 40k? they focused more on the performance not so much on the interior, u want a quality interior with the same performance, that would puts you to like audi or bmw that cost 50-60k with the same performance
It's not that the interior lacks quality, but that it's plain vanilla styling.
CarBuzz - Unboxing Everyday Cars and Supercars you suck sir. Very badly
After years of hard working, and dreaming of having this kind of car. I am finally making my dream reality. I am currently in the process of Purchasing this exact model but in kind of Black/Grey. I really hope the bank accepts to loan me. Fingers crossed
Update ?
how did u do that box around your brz? what video editing tool does that? it was pretty cool
It's not ugly, and it's not gorgeous. let's just say it's polarizing...and that's what i like about it. some of the best music and art is polarizing and that's what gets people talking and i'd say that to be true for cars as well.

like the cvt....if I want a truly involving driving experience I have a 1000cc sportbike with 6 speed.......
Yeah, that's definitely a driving experience.
Thank you! The CVT, simply put, deprives this car of its soul. Instead, I'd suggest a Golf or Golf GTI with the dual-clutch option. Great cars!
I really like the DSG transmission. I have it on my Golf TDI. Just not sure if I am willing to give VW another chance after the diesel debacle.
this dude is being way to picky for a car thats base is 27K. Yea i get it the one here is almost 38K, but dude it's a Subaru....you have too much expectations. And like someone said, once you said no wrx has looked good you lost all your credibility for reviewing cars
the X in WRX is actually supposed to be a variable; the car's potential is left to be determined by the driver
There only ONE person who needs to like your Car - YOU 😎
I'm pretty happy with my 2015 WRX so far.
You should send that comment to Subaru.
The car actually looks better in person imo
The competition for the WRX is not the Golf R and Focus RS. The competition is the GTI and the Focus ST. WRB is a nice color but just about everyone has it that's why I bought the pure red. As for looks, the GTI and the Golf R looks boring and as plain as can be! I think the WRX looks good especially after a few mods. Look at mine: instagram.com/pitties_a_wrx_and_more/
Yes, we also mentioned the Focus ST and GTI. And your car looks awesome!
+CarBuzz - Unboxing Everyday Cars and Supercars u have no idea what your doing.
the RS looks decent
Outdoor Layne I would think so being newer and $8000+ more than a WRX.
Lol, a gauge boost. He'll get it down after a few more vids. Also might help if he's genuinely into cars. But to the main point, I friggin want this car!
I say give it a try and you will have some fun. Flaws and all.
too opinionated this reviewer.
Thank you! And that's the whole point of a review...to offer up opinions.
This model is 30kplus tax tested. The current manual transmission is a slush sandbox in the wrx but the wrx sti comes with a higher quality manual transmission.
Yeah, that's true.
MetalsForBrunch you are kidding right? The manual feels great. Notchy at first but once broken in it is smooth as silk with positive feel.
+MetalsForBrunch The manual transmission is great and coming from a Mustang, a Camaro, and a BMW owner.
Yeah, I gotta agree with you on your comment. Lost me at it doesn't look good. I like the wrx body style 2017 and older. Not real fond of the newer ones. I just traded for a 2017 and I love it. Im thinking about trading in my 2014 Focus st for one what are your guys opinions?
Changed my mind a while ago test drove a wrx last month only thing the wrx has on the st is the awd
You said it had the sti performance package but where were the black wheels and the sti shift knob? Or did it only have the exhaust and short throw shifter?
The latter.
Good vid, however, the UK is part of europe.....just sayin'. As well, 0-60 at 5 sec or so, you upshift not down shift
Brexit.
CarBuzz - Unboxing Everyday Cars and Supercars Not sure where it is said in the video... But Brexit has not taken effect yet and Europe and European Union are not the same thing..,
Brexit doesn't make the UK not a part of Europe.
Brexit is politics....that aside, geographically, the uk is part of the European continent.
I have a WRX (16') and personally I'd say the RS and the R are at least a step above the WRX and should be compared more to the STI. While the STI is good, it isn't quite as refined as those two but should be getting a refresh for 2018 and I'm curious what they bring.
I doubt the STI will ever be all that refined; in a way its somewhat lack of refinement contributes to its rally soul. Just my two cents.
This is true, maybe that wasn't the right wording, but I still feel it's more in the same class and wonder what the new one will bring to the table.
Would you say that the WRX is better or the Ford Focus (not st)
If I was going to spend 37k why would you not get a STi, RS, or Golf R? I'm very interested in buying a 2018 STI. Alittle more power, less weight, and better mpg's
FYI...a new STI is just around the corner from Subaru.
CarBuzz - Unboxing Everyday Cars and Supercars my wrx lease probably ends right has its released so I'm excited
Gauge boost? Come on. Boost Gauge.
The arm rest is very short, is it true?
when are you making a review for the wrx sti??
The moment I can arrange one! It's coming. I promise...
Gauge boost.... 0-60 around 5 seconds depending on your downshift abilities? c'mon bro
I was trying to but I couldn't find it with my phone
I find your commentary very strange do to your long pauses.
due*
Learn some English - it's "due to your long pauses"!
ROFLMAO man has a point. Kind of dumb to complain about commentary when you can't use proper words lol.
doesnt the Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart also compete with the WRX??
Not so much anymore.
Hi CB. Question.
Would a road bike, laid on it's side rear end first, fit in the back with the seats down?
Depending on the size of the road bike; I'd still suggest a conventional external bike rack.
ovathere93 with the front wheel off, it will. I used to haul mine in my Kia Rio all the time like that.
Mr. Satan Agree with you. My road bike with the front wheel off fits easy in a Mazda3 Sport.
Was a decent video. But once you put down the looks of it, you ruined it. You have some bad taste if you don't think the wrx and sti look good.
Um, everybody is entitled to their own opinions.
Did you say 0-60 depend on downshifting ability?
Sorry, meant to say upshifting. My bad.
focus rt and rs are the competitors. and honestly the focus rs is so much more your money's worth. sorry my fav subie gen in terms of looks were the hawkeye and meaneye.
Personally, I'm a big fan of the old Bugeye. I know it's not everyone's favorite but it was just cool to me.
I didn't mention a wagon, I specifically said a hatchback. There's a difference.
You also said "gauge boost" so I wouldn't be correcting anyone bro.
"BOOST GUAGE"
forget about the CVT....that's the best advice I would say. And hatchback hell yeah!
Agree with both your remarks.
Paul Yuen love my 16 cvt
Paul Yuen I love my wrx cvt 15 with turbo ax bov and srs axel back and aem cold air intake love it
Got mines almost a year ago in blue and I love my 15 Wrx!! Specially after a few tasty mods😋
Now we're talking! Awesome buy!
The CVT is better....trust me.
Better for girls, for sure.
Wrong
I thought it was World Rally Cross.
Jee Vang no...it is World Rally Cross. Also what you call hatch back is actually called a sport wagon.
Wayne Wildman it's not cross. Is experimental
MrSealteam7bm it's cross.
Beast.......
Screw the hatch. Put the drive train in a Crosstrek.
Now that'd be cool!
The idling rpm is 1500. OMG !
Indeed!
It is absolutely not even close to that. When the engine is heating up it sits between 1500-2000rpm and once heated, it drops to 500-750rpm. NEEDS HATCHBACK
the car looks better than your mom
WHY WHY every video ive every watched on my car They go to the fake carbon fiber piece i think its nice what would you have done Do you own one i do
Because it's our job to point things out like fake carbon fiber so that perspective buyers don't think it's real.
I'm a CVT fan sorry
I'm a manual fan, hi
Hugh Jayness why? everyone has a manual
You should be driving and probably are driving a Corolla S.
Jack Hammer I used to have a corolla actually. I love manual but CVT is my personal favorite
I used to drive an 06 auto corolla, a new cvt corolla, and now a manual wrx. They are all good in their own ways :)
Thanks
look up the definition of review, sitting in a parking lot looking at buttons and features, is not a review you should probably drive the car and use its features to call it a review. ( maybe the back seat and styling can be called a review but nothing else can)
WHAT THE FUCK IS A GAUGE BOOST. Are you boosting the gaugev
wrx stands for world rally cross. did you actually say world rally experiment which by the way makes no sense
I did, because that was what Subaru originally designated the WRX as.
Dan Field it is world rally experiment.....
Dan Field hey dan. Youre dumb. Bye
From certain angles it's god awful, but from certain other angles it's sexy to me. I think the STI looks very weird this gen because of the way the spoiler is mounted. I also like the engine in the 2017.
This guy shouldnt be allowed to review wrx
best mods for 300whp ?? please help
Definitely modify the exhaust system, that's for sure.
shoutingforha no it will not
While I think they look nice, there is more work to be done. Well the focus rs has more hp.
Needs more Power & Torque
That's why there's the WRX STI.
...and tuning
$37k for a WRX is literally crazy. Subaru has got to be losing their mind to charge that much for something without an STI badge on it. Nevermind the fact that the interior still looks like it's 10 years old.
Gregory Lopes what other cars can you get with the same power with 4 seats ?
Yeah, you bring up a good point there. It is a bit pricey for what it is (and isn't).
Gregory Lopes they don't cost $37k. I paid $26,578 out the door for my base model. You are mistaken or somebody is ripping people off.
Wayne Wildman yes, you purchased a base model. This video is not a base model. A fully loaded limited with leather seats, sunroof, Harmon Kardon stereo system, etc, is listing for around $37k. Here is a link to show you what i mean. th-cam.com/video/FOap1lkwtAk/w-d-xo.html
If im wrong then let me know here lol.
The next-generation WRX and WRX STI are at least a year or so away.
bro just stop with the 3 seconds mutes please. its so fuckin annoying. loll. by the way wrx is way better then a freaking focus. lol. just my opinion
Doesn't look good ? Da fuck
Is this a joke video?
I'm obviously biased, but my GTI makes the WRX look like shit. While I don't have AWD, the mechanical limited-slip differential does almost all the things I'd want an AWD system to do. Also, the interior is absolute shit on the WRX, the paint quality is TERRIBLE, and they rattle like crazy. It's a fun car, but it's more for fanboys more than real drivers.
You're not biased. The WRX is not a looker.
Subarus are never about the looks, it's about substance. You want looks without substance get a Hyundai.
You're going to piss off Hyundai Veloster Turbo fanboys. Fair warning :slightly_smiling_face:
Actually, I do own a Hyundai too which is the basis for my opinion/comparison. Cheers!
