This lesson is one to keep handy, as it beautifully teaches us how to avoid hurting other people's feelings and encourages us to communicate our thoughts and opinions clearly, without being rude, while keeping American culture in mind. Even when we strongly disagree with someone's point of view, it shows us how to give the other person dignity, make them feel heard, and, most importantly, leave the door open for future conversations, preserving the relationship. It underscores excellent communication skills. One of the methods may be the gray stone principle. Be conservative in a relationship - for your own protection against someone who puts pressure on you.
