I loved that whole slow motion of the fight scene between Hela and Jiayi as well as Hela and Odin as it mirrored Jiayi-Wenwu and Shang-Chi-Wenwu from Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings.
These episodes r what true fans really wanted, seeing these mcu worlds we’ve built up connect and collide in amazing ways, making amazing stories rather than rushing to continue to separate further apart
Yeah... live action MCU should take notes. Yes, we want new and refreshing stories, but that interconnected universe that feels seamless is undefeated.
Saying it’s all Odin’s fault is an exaggeration, Loki’s inferiority is in fact cuz of his bloodline compared to the rest of the family but he chooses to attack Midgard, same as Thor who’s acting reckless on his own term initially, every one of these characters have flaws in their own ways, saying all his fault is just a lazy explanation
I never thought shang chi's training montage was rushed. Everything they did for that scene makes sense. His training growing up was under his fathers lessons and he mastered that fighting style that his father had to offer. The mothers fighting style which he learned in that scene had to be closely related to his fathers so i thought it would not take a lot of time to learn. They literally walked him through a few adjustments and some lessons that his mother would have taught him and thusly dealing with his childhood trauma to master his mothers fighting style as well. At least thats what i took from those scenes in shang chi.
So in this version, Hela was given the same treatment Thor got in the first movie, but instead of landing in New Mexico… she landed in China. Guess Odin didn’t know about the ancient relics known as the 10 Rings. Man, Shang-Chi was a badass movie. And I love Hela’s development here in this What If. This season is definitely better than the first one.
I know some people were annoyed at the “mcu humor” of this episode but it’s pretty accurate to how hela acted in ragnarok and considering how accurate they were in having Thor act serious during pre-ragnarok time periods I’d say it was a deliberate creative choice to write her like that
Plus it makes her more endearing and human to the audience which makes it easier to fit her redemption arc into a single episode while making it believeable
Halfway through the episode and the way they combined Ragnarök and the first Thor film with the beginning of Thor's banishment with Hela to Midgard as he puts a curse on Hela's crown instead of Thor's just crazy. Also the stopping of Thor's hammer with Odin instead of Hela was a nice mirroring of Thor: Ragnarök happening at the Bifrost was a nice moment. Loving the incorporation of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings storyline as well with Hela being trained in the art of Tai Chi.
Hela screaming as she can't pickup the crown is the same scream as Thor with him not able to lift his hammer in first Thor film at the Shield base in Puente Antigua.
Personally felt like Hela's change of heart was a bit too abrupt, but I'm glad it was both Wenwu and Jiayi who helped her change. Also feel like this should've aired before the Captain Carter episode, since the last two episodes were building up to the finale and this one didn't (imagine Galadriel Hela in the finale, would've been OP lol)
The great thing about this is that now that the multiverse is a thing, they could make full length movies out of any of these "What If?" episodes. Frankly it would be a refreshing take and I think would get people more interested in the MCU again after some of their lesser loved works of late.
I really enjoyed this episode quite a bit! It mixes completely different sides of the MCU together perfectly, and a lot of really cool stuff came out of this episode. My highlights of this episode were the action and especially the final fight because that was really cool and well done! Props to the animators, and although not my favorite episode of the season, I still thought I was really good! 8/10!
This felt like they did the Loki Show premise, with Hela. We already have an attachment to her character and her arc in the MCU, many of us ALREADY love her to death (pun intended), so they took a chance at a redemption arc and it REALLY paid off i friggin loved this episode and really love this version of Hela as well haha

The goddess of death is back.😎 The truth is, the chapter made me feel sorry for Hela and knowing that she died in the main line of the MCU, because she really wasn't evil, Odin was to blame for all of that ambition she had.🥺 True, that final fight with the Mandarin ufff was great.😎
Your commentary at the end was hilarious! It is kind of funny that right after the Kahhori episode which was the antithesis of the White Savior trope, they had this episode which doubled down on it, literally giving her white armor at the end. 😅
Hela literally went from the goddess of death to the goddess of life. Cate Blanchett coming back as Hela and giving her more character development was everything. Also come to think she ascended to higher form of cosmic being like Loki realizing her Glorious Purpose.

I really enjoyed this episode, I really liked and found the whole episode to be really entertaining and fun. I really liked this episode’s story, I found it to be really interesting and entertaining. I really enjoyed the story, the characters, the score, the cinematography and the animation. It was great to get to learn more and see more about Hela, her background and her goals throughout this episode. Especially with the scene where Odin initially gave Hela her crown and when Hela talked about what she really wanted after conquering the Nine Relms. I loved getting to see Hela interact with the Ten Rings and Ta Lo, it was really fun to get to see how she would try to adapt to these new environments. And these were a combination of characters and places that I never thought we would ever get to see in the MCU. And I absolutely loved the fight between Hela and Wenwu against Odin. This fight was so awesome, getting to see the dynamics of powers between these three as they fought was amazing. And the choreography for the fight was really great, getting to see how each of them would use their powers and abilities to their fullest while using different techniques to try and take out the other was amazing. I loved getting to see their three different styles of fighting clashing. I also loved getting to see more of Wenwu in action, I loved getting to watch his fighting style throughout the Shang-Chi movie so it was really great to get to see even more of it in this episode. And on top of that it was also super cool to actually see Odin in action. In the MCU we never really got to see him in action because he had already long given up his warriors ways, but in this episode he had just now decided to give up that life style so he was still primed for a fight so we actually got to see how Odin would have fought in battle. And it was just so cool, I loved how much of a tank he felt like in this fight and with his combination of broad and brutal yet fast attacks his fighting style was able to feel similar to Thor’s without it feeling like it was just a copy and paste of Thor’s move set. Also after Hela became good, became worthy to have her crown and she dawned the white attire I couldn’t help but be reminded of another Cate Blanchett character that was good and wore white, Galadriel from Lord of the Rings. I just had such a fun time watching this episode I cannot wait to see how the rest of the episodes in this new season will turn out. I cannot wait for tomorrow’s episode! I hope that it is as good if not better than this one and that this season is able to keep up this episode’s style of quality, writing, and storytelling.
Awesome episode. When I heard this was one of the episode concepts (as far back as reports from Comic Con in 2021 I believe) I was intrigued to see what they did with the episode because of my love of mythology and Asian stuff, and it didn't disappoint. Definitely another good episode in an already good season of television. From looking at the credits, it looks like Cate Blanchett and Idris Elba are the only returning cast members for their roles and everyone else is different for this episode, though I agree Odin does sound somewhat similar to Anthony Hopkins even though it's not actually him. Also, Hela doesn't just "know Mandarin", Asgardians (and I believe all the gods and mythological figures in Marvel) are able to understand and speak every language as they have something called Allspeak (fitting name for an ability to speak all languages).
I think one pf the reasons this look so good is partly due to expectations. All of us werent expecting much. I was looking forward to it because i like how new and different this kind of storytelling for the MCU was in the first season, but i never thought it would be this good. It rivals some of the best animations EVER (Not just Marvel or DC)... Im talking Incredible, Toy Story, Batman Animated series, Soul....
That session exploring Hela's motivations reminded me of the first conversation with Mobius in Loki: "So you become 'Loki: King of Space,' then what?..."
The fact we are getting what if stories about villains as main characters now just shows how much of level up this season is from the previous one, and obviously the animation and the writing has improved too
I cannot believe they got Cate Blanchett and Idris Elba back to do vo work, amazing!!!! And it's getting press from their Twitter and IG accounts, but I haven't seen this show promoted anywhere else.
I LOVED THIS EPISODE SOOOOOO MUCH!!!!!! I liked Hela in Thor Ragnarok I thought She was a Good Villain but I never liked Her as much as Everybody else. But I loved what They Did with Her in This Episode! Seeing Her go through The Character Arc Thor went through in The First Movie was so Great! And then having Wenwu and all of The Shang-Chi connections was just So Awesome! This Season has Been absolutely Fantastic so far! I'M SOOOOOO EXCITED FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON!!!!!!
Silly names ive come up with so far for each focused character- • Supernova Nebula & The Gaurdians of Xandar • Celestial Starlord & The 88' Avengers • Hela: The Goddess Of Life
I adored this episode. Cate Blanchett is SO FRICKIN GOOD!!! Loved her in Ragnarok and loved this redemption/heroic arc for the Hela. This was awesome. One of my faves of the season.
Damn alternate versions of Thor's siblings are something else they became so powerful force first evil loki to loki the life force for yggdrasil, hela probably kill or imprison thanos and prevented major chaos in future it goes to show how terrible is Odin
I love the running gag of almost EVERY episode being like “haha hey wanna watch Thanos lose?” Whether it be him dying in one hit, or just being a good person and stop fighting and joining the hood guys
man i would love a what of which asks the question of whatd happen if thor never landed on sakarr and similar events to the actual world war hulk comic could have happened
So we called ultron from last season Infinity Ultron… what are we going to call this Hela? My vote is for Heavena ☺️ This was such a cool episode. I mean getting a good Hela, with her crown, Odins spear, and Ta Lo spiritual power is so freaking cool who comes up with this stuff?!
This was my favorite episode of what if season 2. I knew and was hoping that this episode would be good. So far my favorites have been the peter quill episode, the hydra stomper episode and this episode!! So good!!!
For all the benefits this episode gave hela, I think it gave some to wenwu aswel. This is our look at a wenwu before he lost his wife and shows just how much that loss effected him a lot more then the family flashbacks did imo

I hope that it is as good if not better than this one and that this season is able to keep up this episode’s style of quality, writing, and storytelling.
this is actually the best ending amongst all episodes, hela and wenwu stopping thanos before the "balance" thing
he probably already had killed some people
Awesome episode.
Wenwu: And that's how i met your mother.... She even smacked my head multiple times on a table
I loved this episode so much. 10/10. I might be alone on this one, but i watch alot of shows, THIS is in my top 10 shows of the year.
It's no surprise Hela speaks Mandarin. The gods can speak all languages
That session exploring Hela's motivations reminded me of the first conversation with Mobius in Loki:
"So you become 'Loki: King of Space,' then what?..."
They were both raised by the same awful father so it makes sense that they would have similar traumas
Banger episode, just finished it myself and saw the notification
Amazing episode, such an interesting concept. The choice of characters and timeline is very intriguing. My favourite of the season for sure.
Thats one "Hella" Episode
Lmfao not Odin having his ass whopped by the ten rings
Silly names ive come up with so far for each focused character-
• Supernova Nebula & The Gaurdians of Xandar
• Celestial Starlord & The 88' Avengers
• Hela: The Goddess Of Life
I love hela grow and learn while she was on earth becoming the god of light and freedom
Lauren Tom voicing Wenwu's What If...? wife who was Dana Tan in Batman Beyond is just great. Anthony Hopkins doesn't reprise the role of Odin.
It’s like every new episode of S2 “What IF” is almost everyone favorite. It’s funny.
17:50 When you guys joked about her becoming a savior earlier in the episode. I was thinking you just you wait for this 🤣
So we called ultron from last season Infinity Ultron… what are we going to call this Hela? My vote is for Heavena ☺️
This was such a cool episode. I mean getting a good Hela, with her crown, Odins spear, and Ta Lo spiritual power is so freaking cool who comes up with this stuff?!
Oh, this was my favourite EP of this season, easily...
I loved it.
This was my favorite episode of what if season 2. I knew and was hoping that this episode would be good. So far my favorites have been the peter quill episode, the hydra stomper episode and this episode!! So good!!!
This is the most random but amazing episode yet
I want a what if Howard Stark became Iron Man episode and a what if quicksilver lived episode
So far this was the best one yet, had me locked in the whole time.
Wenwu be like: I can fix her.
This is probably the most interesting what if
Cate Blanchett is amazing
This looks like a good show. Seems like you've all had a great time watching it.
For all the benefits this episode gave hela, I think it gave some to wenwu aswel. This is our look at a wenwu before he lost his wife and shows just how much that loss effected him a lot more then the family flashbacks did imo
