It’s a longstanding theme in Marvel that people who pursue power become monsters. Those who happen upon it have a choice. The right choice makes them a hero. But even making the wrong choice multiple times doesn’t necessarily make them a monster. Everyone can be redeemed. Sometimes even the monsters.

18:12 The nine tailed fox is something of East Asian myth. I think Japan, Korea, and China have different versions of it. The demon in Naruto is also a 9 tailed fox, though I don't know how legit the 1-8 tailed beasts are to Asian folklore.
37:40 Martial arts geek here: In the film, it more like kung-fu (properly called wushu), somewhat based on maybe hung gar from the dad and tai chi from the mom. Tae kwon do is a Korean style that resembles the rigidity of karate, but emphasizes kicking more (when you play fighting games with a tae kwon do character, you'll know...).
Very random fact: In the bus scene, one of the extras is a guy I went to high school with and we're still social media friends. When I saw that scene, I was like "that is NOT who I think it is?!" I ended up messaging him about it and he was all nonchalant like "yep, that's me." He said it was cool to see the action up close.
Fun fact: the guy livestreaming in the bus near the start of the film was in Spider-Man: Homecoming. It's all connected. Say what you will about the TV shows, the shows you saw established a lot of the stuff you see in the background in this film, particularly what you guys caught about the post-blip support which was a main plot point in Falcon & Winter Soldier. Vince caught Wong, but it looks like you guys missed that the big green thing he was fighting was Abomination, the bad guy from The Incredible Hulk. The motion capture was done by someone else, but the voice was done by the original actor Tim Roth (even though it's mostly growls and grunts in this one). Again, it's all connected. Vince was also right. Ben Kingsley reprises his role as stage actor Trevor Slattery, who in Iron Man 3 played the part of The Mandarin for the cameras. There's a Marvel Short Film called "All Hail the King" where they show the REAL Mandarin, the bad guy in this film, breaking him out of jail to punish him for using his name without permission. One last time, it's all connected. You're already over 11+ films so it'd be good for you to do a refresher of what you've seen before because you might miss details later on, especially with returning characters. That also applies to the TV shows once you hit the next Doctor Strange movie.
If you like the fight scenes, the Le brothers (Andy and Bryan Le) also choreographed the fight scenes in "everything, everywhere, all at once". They're also TH-camrs who do fight choreography and stunts, with friends, called "martial club". Michelle Yeo (the mother) is also in "everything, everywhere, all at once" and the epic "crouching Tiger, hidden dragon" as well as many others.
The Bus scene 6:45 is inspired by Oldboy (2003) corridor fight. The fight with the Masked Ninja 12:45 is inspired from Kakashi vs Obito fight (Naruto Shippuden). That's what I picked up aside from all the other references mentioned here.
I really didn't want to see this in the theaters. I just wasn't as thrilled about it as the previous ones. But...what a great movie! Pretty much flawless.

Hey, guys! Loved your reaction to this awesome movie! I think a lot of fans wondered whether Marvel could still make really good movies, once "Infinity War" and "Endgame" were over. This one proved it was still more than possible. Glad you mentioned how good Wen Wu was as a villain. What's even more amazing is that he was played by veteran Hong Kong actor Tony Leung. He's spent almost 30 years working in TV and film, and is basically a household name in his hometown. But throughout his career, Leung had never taken part in a Hollywood project -- until this one. The fact that for his first Hollywood movie, and his first English-speaking role, he chose to be in an MCU film is mind-blowing. It was a real coup for Marvel Studios to convince him to join, and as you noted, his presence in this story was incredible. It was cute to see Shoshanna hoping to see unicorns in Ta Lo. Unfortunately, it wasn't about to happen, though. The fantastic creatures we saw there are all based on Chinese and East Asian mythology, not Western. And as you might have guessed, that's the source for a lot of other intellectual properties, like Pokemon. The closest thing they had to unicorns there in Ta Lo were the qilin, the large scaled horses that crossed our heroes' path on the way in.

Abomination (Hulk villain that is fighting with Wong) returns from Incredible Hulk. Kev (the guy who records the bus fight) is also in Spiderman Homecoming, with his famous line : "Do a flip!" It's funny that you mention Michelle Yeoh was in Crazy Rich Asians. So were Aquafina and Ronnie Chang. But Michelle is best known for her role in Everything, Everywhere, All at Once, and for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. She won an Oscar for EEAAO. She is known in China for her martial arts skills, starring with Jackie Chan in many international hits, and writes and produces too. Also, Shawn's and Katy's friend who thinks they're lazy also starred in EEAAO with Michelle. This was a fun movie. The creatures are from Chinese legends. the Qilin are the dragon scaled horse-like creatures. And the lions were Chinese Guardian Lions. That is why they acted like they own the place and it is why you see them as statues in front of many buildings or rooms. The 9-tail fox is said to have the ability to disguise itself as a beautiful human woman! Naruto's spirit is 9-Tails and is often depicted as a 9-tail fox. Great reactions and lots of fun! Looking forward to the next one!
Lawd the Father’s grief was too much. He was obsessed with those rings and couldn’t accept the fact that his wife had died, thus putting her whole village and family in danger. She would be ashamed of her widowed husband. Can’t wait to go and see The Marvels in November.
You guys should watch the One-Shot Short Film "All Hail The King" set after Iron-Man 3 which sets up Trevor's role in this and revealed the Mandarin was real afterall.
Color symbolism is different in China than in the west. Shang Chi's mom was wearing a red wedding dress, which is common. Red is for celebration. When she dies, and I just noticed on this viewing, she is wearing white. White is their funeral color. Loved this movie.
Awkwafina saying she's "The Asian Jeff Gordon" should have been a red flag. Seriously, this is an underrated film because Shang-Chi is a minor Marvel character.

The creature that Wong, from dr strange, was fighting was the abomination from the Incredible Hulk movie in 2008. Also the ten rings is the name of the group that attacked and captured Tony stark in the first iron man movie.
Spoiler alert: Bruce was supposed to be in smart Hulk form permanently unable to turn back into a human because my heart is the combined form of both of them. He needed to turn himself back to human form because he was unable to heal as the hulk because of the extra gamma ray his body absorbed from the infinity gauntlet. When Shang was controlling the rings like that I thought of Kamehameha as well. I love Dragon Ball Z, grew up with it. I hope you guys watch the series, and make sure it's Z and not Kai.
Man you guys did Wong hella dirty
This movie has the best hand to hand combat in the MCU
Definitely a fire movie, can't wait to see where they go with the characters.
One of my favourites, was so beautiful in cinema
the "And that's how I met your father" bit at the beginning sold the whole movie.
Love this movie, SOOO underrated!!
6:09 my gf fuckin KILLS at karaoke, like I’ve twice seen her get approached after singing by bar managers trying to get her to do live shows. And yet every time she’s like “hey why don’t you get up there and sing something??” Like girl… I’m not following Adele with a bad rendition of Johnny Cash… I’d get run out of town on a rail for trying to follow that 😂
It's funny that you mention Michelle Yeoh was in Crazy Rich Asians.
Chang Shy is crazy 😂
"He's in Barbie! That's Ken!" made me laugh so much. He's Ken
15:39. Good explanation man 👏
Everybody WANG Chung tonight! Lol Wong but y’all got it lol love y’all’s channel
Those unicorn with dragon horn and scally body is “Kirin”, ancient Japan/China depiction of Giraffe
Fun fact the ninja with the white mask know as death dealer is play by Andy le who is TH-camr,he does martial arts on his channel
I just love when people make chinese mythology come to life. I wheezed when you called the dragon an eel
there's a theory out there that Katie's grandfather is the one Shang Chi was sent after
23:42. I like how fiercesome her daughter is
I’m so tired of reactors not paying attention to the movie then asking questions later on when they clearly already gave u the answer earlier.
This is where the fun begins! 🙏🏽💪
Awkwafina saying she's "The Asian Jeff Gordon" should have been a red flag. Seriously, this is an underrated film because Shang-Chi is a minor Marvel character.
i hate that this movie is so underrated it’s actually one of my fav marvel movies
5:16 Let the battle begin! My man Shang Chi! 🙏🏽💪
The fight scene with the husband and wife reminded me of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
YAY!!! I caught a premiere!!! THANKS for this, you two!!!!
In the comics it was Shang who taught/helped peter develop his own spider martial arts.
"That's Ken".😂 Funny all of them were Ken.😂
I can’t wait till you guys watch She-Hulk! I need more Wongers in my life!!
Im so upset that we havent seen shang chi back in like 3 almost 4 years
It’s only been 2 almost 3 & last that Simu Liu heard, Shang Chi isn’t getting a sequel until after Kang Dynasty
@@swaybravo7899 which is so lame, like why even introduce the character so damn early if he isnt gonna be a part of the whole next saga
@@nigielschroeder3510Shang-chi isn’t the only project that’s being dealt with rn. There’s a bunch of other projects that are in development that are of bigger importance. Look at doctor strange, his sequel took 6 years to come after his first movie. It sucks but it’s just how it is🤷♂️. The universe is big now
@@BigReek99 his sequel took 6 years but he was still in avengers, thor, and spiderman. Also, that's doctor strange, one of the most important characters. I just dont wanna wait Like 4 years for like, season 2 of Moon Knight or something.
@@nigielschroeder3510 It's pretty typical for how they've mismanaged the whole MCU over the last couple of years. I seriously think it needs to take a long break to rethink what they are doing.
these 2 have memories of a goldfish..."inserts clip off a goldfish" ..as they do for everything.
I didn't see it until this reaction. Razor Fist is Victor Drago From Creed II and III
15:24 Yeah the real manadarin kidnapped Trevor Slattery after he tried impersonate him in Iron Man 3 😅
Trevor might be a mutant. He must have the ability to communicate with magical creatures or animals in general if he could understand Morris.
I was going through your MCU watch playlist, and not to pressure you guys but there's a few Disney plus series missing from the list, they include:
She Hulk: Attorney at Law
Werewolf by Nighy
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special
Secret Invasion
I would like your reactions to these as well, while they're not perfect, except for Werewolf by Night, but they're worth watching
11:43. Rush Hour brings back good memories
Loved Shang-Chi. You two should check out “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”.👍👍
The creature that Wong, from dr strange, was fighting was the abomination from the Incredible Hulk movie in 2008. He just looks slightly different because marvel decided to make him more comic book accurate but he’s still played my the same guy. Also the ten rings is the name of the group that attacked and captured Tony stark in the first iron man movie.
So goooooood! Love this movie, really enjoyed seeing your reaction! 😊
Gamma ray the hulk his powers but it also can effect him even kill him.
Michelle Yeoh is from so much more than Crazy Rich Asians, she is one of the most prolific actresses in Chinese and American cinema. go react to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
So his name in the movie is Wong and his real name is Benedict Wong so yeah hard to get his name wrong also can't believe you guys didn't recognize abomination from the incredible hulk movie
Simu Liu is a stunt man with sitcom experience. He was made for the Marvel universe.
