Yeahhh for real I really loved it when it came out ❤ and I remember everyone kinda not talking about it as much 😢 or it just maybe went under the radar idk 🤷♀️
A lot of people HATE this movie. I personally always loved it and only found it later that it’s hated by a fair amount of people. I think the story was similar yet different enough to be interesting, the characters stayed true to themselves and showed a deeper side, and the action I think is just way way WAY better in the 2010 version. The original karate kids are goated, but this movie I think is an amazing remake
I think it's because the original was so important to people it was always going to have a hard time winning people over. On top of that, since this movies release Jayden has gotten a bad rap for being a cringey teenager in the public eye (as apposed to the rest of us who got to be cringey teenagers in private XD), this has probably prevented this movie from becoming a "classic in hindsight" as many movies do.
To me growing up this was MY Karate Kid (although technically it should probably be called Kung Fu Kid). When I was young my family would love watching this movie together and before I ever learned about the original Karate Kid movies or Cobra Kai, this movie to me was first exposure to the franchise and honestly it doesn't get enough love as I think its pretty underrated. Interested to see what the new upcoming Karate Kid is going to look like?
@@Burger-g4v i think the og is better because it is the og and created the story for this one but i think the fights are way more entertaining which definitely has to do with the time
Jaden is in The Pursuit of Happyness with his father, based on the true story of millionaire Anthony Garner, which I met in real life and is a great guy! I read the book after seeing the movie.
My kids (who had to move all over the world while I was in the Army) loved this movie. It really nails how culture shock and leaving home can hit kids hard. Good performances by everyone.
I'd like to see Aaron & Tara watch some more Kung-Fu movies. The first 'Iron Monkey' movie in particular. It stars the actor who plays this movie's Kreese(the bad teacher) who is a doctor/vigilante in China. Donnie Yen is in it too. They're both awesome in it🔥📽
51:20 - I love the line " _I hope it was something important_ " because that speaks volumes more to me as someone who rarely holds a grudge, because this really is that important to remember: Is the argument worth dying over? PS to me, this isn't a remake, it's just another story in the same universe. This movie is great, as a fan of the old Karate Kid movies, I really enjoyed this movie and I really buy what Jackie Chan says about Kung Fu - Don't get me wrong, I bought it about Karate too with Wax on Wax off, something I still quote to my sister when we need to do something " _Ah, but first we must sand da floor, and wax on_ ".
When I watched this film and I didn’t realize Jaden Smith is actually Will Smith’s son but I checked that Will Smith and his son were in a movie together twice the pursuit of happiness from 2006 and after earth from 2013
@@alexp601 I'm 39, and that doesn't mean I dislike the old Karate Kid. I prefer the fights of the younger one, I like Jackie Chan and also the more current script. The interesting thing is that I see more people who prefer the first Karate Kid being haters of those who like the 2010 one, than the other way around. This is immaturity, each person likes what they want, each film represents something different for each person. It's just different opinions, and that's okay.
@@sajithshiraj5777 yeah there’s nothing wrong with having a genuine preference. I was just saying that those who grew up with this one are most likely to prefer it over the old ones. Just like those who grew up with the old ones would prefer those.
You might want to look up the term (Tofu Dreg). The Chinese construction industry has a massive corruption problem. So several buildings decay or fall apart.
If u wanna see the best movie with Jaden and Will together, watch The Pursuit of Happiness. It will break ur heart to million pieces and heal it too. A masterpiece
Loved watching this as a child. I feel like it really showed Jackie’s incredible chops as an actor. He isn’t just funny and a stunt man/martial artist, etc… that whole scene where he shows all of that emotion was so well done. Still makes me cry ❤
I think this movie as a stand alone is really great but the ties to the karate kid franchise is where people have there problems I love this film though!
This movie shouldn't been called The Kung Fu Kid because of the martial arts change. If they're going to make a Karate Kid movie, should've gone shot the movie in Japan and cast Ken Watanabe as the mentor. Around that time, Ken was the more well known Japanese actor to American audiences because of Last Samurai, Batman Begins and Letters from Iwo Jima.
Also the electricity card, yes we absolutely do have these here in America, especially in Arizona with SRP. I used one here when I first moved here 16 years ago
im so glad you guys watched this! I saw this movie when Netflix was still sending DVD’s to people’s houses 😂 I was maybe 10-11 at the time and it still is one of my favorite movie from the 2010’s following Real Steel which was an absolute powerhouse
Watching this in theatres as a kid was so awesome 😭 I think everything out of this movie is so fun and all the characters are interesting. Never forget the Justin Bieber song to end the movie off
i have a distinct memory of this movie while watching it with my mom and brother, while the credits were rolling my mom told my brother to pick up his laundry then she did the jackie chan thing lmao i loved this movie when i was a kid
i actually love this version of the movie, Jackie Chan and Jaiden Smith actually did really well with their respective roles, people hate on this movie because everyone compares it to the original when it was always meant to be its own thing
My theory why this movie is so underrated because, it is a remake. For some reason, it seems like people that they can only like the original or the remake but never both. I loved both of them.
Idk this movie went double platinum in my African American home! My mom was also a hardcore og karate kid fan, so maybe that had something to do with it
You guys should check out the alternate ending /deleted scene you get to see some action between Jackie Chan and the other teacher it’s a pretty cool scene
53:59 Can’t say for certain prior to the remake, I forget the year it came out but there was another karate kid with a girl. I don’t know if it was well received at that time. I think you guys would like it. Technically shes supposed to be the daughter of the kid from the first movie.
You should watch The Myth 2005 movie. Jackie Chan and the Karate teacher are in it together too and it was like one of very rare movie which Jackie Chan 'serious'.
The bully is terrifying! Reminds me of every character ever played by Bolo Yeung! If there was a Karate Kid multiverse this might be his villain origin story 😂
After the end of the film they played Justin Bieber’s never say never album and at a later point in 2011 they would release a documentary about the singer
There's a fun alternate ending. I think the way movie ended is just fine. But they all to the end they has Jackie Chan fighting at the other teacher. And it's pretty good.
last I heard this movie is getting a sequel. Jackie Chan will be in it, Jaden Smith probably not. I remember watching this film in the cinemas. I had such a great time.

Love this Movie so much!!! Will always be my nostalgic Karate Kid Movie, though it would have been better, if it was called Kun Fu Kid. Also because you mentioned it, Memoirs of a Geisha is one of my absolut favorit movies and sadly not many know about this beautiful movie or react to it, so if there's a chance please watch it, you won't regret it :)

When he said "this the one Bruce Lee had", that had to of hit Jackie Chan in the feels, since he knew Bruce irl.

My biggest problem with this movie as a martial artist is that its called Karate Kid when he's being taught Kung Fu
Yeah 🙃
Like everytime i see it it just reminds me of how my mom has called my Tae Kwon Do by Karate for 24 years
Yeah, the average person doesn't know the difference.
That was a marketing choice. It is called "Kung Fu Kid" in some counties.
The movie addresses that when Jaden Smith's character says, "It's not Karate, mom, it's Kung Fu". They kept the name cause it's a remake
