    I can't believe how Martins completely left Tom Stoltman in the dust with the stone run. I thought Tom's time was insane but Martins obliterated it.

      There are so many variables, Tom just took part in a number of competions, had to travel further, albeit Licis pulled it out on the day and is a technical maestro.

      I think it shows how strong the competition is now. Martins played smart all the way through and was abl to put in a blinding finish.
      He pushed Tom and Tom will be detirmined to respond in future. That's how respectful competition works.

      To be fair, Martins knew he had to beat Tom's time while Tom knew he just had to beat Caron's. With that in mind, it's not unlikely that Tom didn't go all-out.

      Tom never thought he'd be beaten on stones, he never went flat out. Martins saw Tom's run and knew he had to go flat out to beat him. I think it’s very difficult to draw an accurate comparison between Tom and Martins from this competition.
    Tom had little to no prep as his focus was entirely on Britain’s which was only a week ago. Plus he had never lifted on an elephant bar or used the wheel of pain before. Martins on the other hand has used this equipment before at the Arnold’s and has been prepping and peaking for this event for months. That being said to perform this well at his first contest in 18 months is staggering and his consistency is above anyone else in the game.
    I think both men are capable of a lot more and that’s honestly quite a scary thought. There will be some epic battles coming up next year and I as a fan of both men can not wait

    • @zakikong3210
      @zakikong3210 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah i get it, BUT The Albratoss is known as the King of the Stones almost unbeatable in the stones, thats his specialty even has a world record in it...If Martins best Tom a few more times in the stones then its safe to assume we have a new King of the Stones...Great event, I cant wait when new bloods like t-rex singleton comes in the fray

    • @davidross8599
      @davidross8599 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zakikong3210 I’m not sure if Tom gave that stone run 100%. He will have known his time didn’t matter. Anything faster than Caron was all he could do. With Martins 2 points clear someone else to beat Martins as well for Tom to come 1st. By the time it was just the two of them left to go all Martins had to do was beat 43s.
      Again Martins was able to prep for this stone run better than Tom. Rouge were only allowing tacky towels so your ability to grip the stone became more of a factor and that’s something Martins was able to prep better for than Tom.
      Not taking anything away from Martins here, he is an immense stone lifter in his own right and someone I believe can legitimately challenge Tom for king of the stones.

    • @edwardchester1
      @edwardchester1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@zakikong3210 Tom had no frame of reference for how fast he needed to go. Sure, he could've/should've gone flat out, but given how difficult everyone else had made the stone run look, it's no surprise he went slow and steady. I've zero doubt that if Tom had been going up last, he'd have beaten Martins' time. Plus, as David Ross mentioned, you've also got to remember that Martins only had to beat JF's time to win the overall comp so Tom simply had to post a faster time than JF then hope Martins either couldn't complete the run or was slower than JF. It simply wasn't a 'fair' comparison.

      fair play, I like all the new guys/blood coming thru including the bravado of singleton.. they are all good and well rounded strongmen, Tom is just a mountain of a man his frame and size is genetically gifted to lift stones his arms are as wide as the girth of them stones... consistency is the key at this level, and damn do I miss the strength of mateusz shoulders, who else lifts logs the way he does🤣 gives me goosebumps everytime he just blast them logs up in one single motion🤯

      @zakikong3210 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      And guys guys, I know I wasnt referring to rhe competition overall event which obviously martin was prepping for, i was referring specifically to the stones and just the stones event....thats why i said IF Martins beats Tom a few more times IN THE STONES😆 then we have a new king of the stones..For me the stones is still Tom's event he is the best at it...And yes martins just needs to beat JF charon time of 43 seconds to win the competiton...BUT he didnt, he beat Tom's time he did not beat JF Charon time, so for me he beat the king of the stones, a shocker for me...And just like you guys, I would love ahead to head stones between these two guys, hope martins stays injury free long enough for them to do battle🤣

      Also standing at an angle not square onto the platform. Shaving off vital seconds between stones.

      Yeah, using the belt while Tom did it clean, definitely a savvy move, Tom needs to get ahead with those little tricks.

    • @edwardchester1
      @edwardchester1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't think that made much difference. In none of those lifts was the stone really resting on the belt in the second stage of the lift, and he was still adjusting his grip. He just had a great technique.

    Absolutely nuts how this ended. Tom Stoltman has the world record for atlas stone at 630lbs and sets blistering paces in the stones. And Martins beats that for the win. Incredible! Thanks Rogue for giving Strongman the love it deserves!

      i don't think martins overall has beaten tom in stones

      I don’t think Martins overall has either. I think Tom could have been much faster but did what he thought was enough to win and he got caught. I am aware they are not atlas stones, it just what Tom has the record in.

    Thank you Rogue for supporting and setting a great platform for these strongman athletes to compete. LOVE seeing the standing O for the LEGEND Brian shaw. And nobody can argue that he's a legend in strongman. Shaw has done A LOT for strongman.
    Edit: anybody know what Thors best time in the stones was, vs. Tom Stoltmans 30 seconds for the stones? I'm going to have to look this up.

    so yea, deserved.
    and thx to Rogue for this great event, very well done.

    Thanx rogue for such a wonderfull event. The lineup was all filled with great athletes. Kudos to licis who proved his mettle again as some thought he won wsm as thor was injured but no he really is a man to look out for at wsm. Hope he remained focus and injury free ! But rogue did fantastic job by putting such a great men under one roof and the atmosphere was electric and just fantastic. Superb 👌

    I can't believe how strong Martins is. He was at SUCH a disadvantage, following his injuries. He only did strength training for the past few months and he just destroyed the strongest men in the world his first time back!
    Even Martins was shocked at his time hahahah.

      It was a gutsy run. But as a competitor he's mid pack at best. 2020 Arnold classic he finished behind Shivliakov who was on one leg. Here he barely beat Brian with Brian not really making a run at the stones. He's a nice competitor just probably not going to threaten for wins.

  • @charlied8355
    @charlied8355 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Amazing stone run from Martins, definitely used some veteran savvy wearing a massive belt unlike Tom who did it clean and then really rubbing down all the stones to get them dry unlike anyone else. It's these little tricks that help someone get ahead

    Great that Rogue are supporting Strongman like this, it's a real shame there isn't much of a crowd though, I hate seeing so many empty seats. A competition like this deserves a full stadium.
    Sidenote: thought Shaw was retiring when he took the mic!
