Tom Stoltman is without a doubt the true king of the stones. His run in Dubai beats everything for me - he has the fastest run on the hardest stones, and he's lifted the heaviest stone ever lifted over a bar, and it didn't even look like a struggle.

Hafthor or Brian Shaw were built to lift stones - both men are well over 6 foot 6 inches tall, so that makes them hard to beat... But ill chuck a shout in for Laszlo Fekete to represent the 1980s and Samuelsson in the 90s, with Big Z in the 00s
@@samharvey5427 Breaking the record once, training only for the one lift, doesn't make him the greatest log presser. Big Z always trained for many events in the whole competition and was able to hold and push the WR for like 15 years even though he wasn't focused only on the log.
@@makaan699 Luke fucked up by lifting super heavy (and breaking the UK record unofficially) 2 weeks before the world record attempt. Shahlaei said the same thing, he just didn't leave himself enough time before the WR attempt. Considering how many attempts he made, and how many times he came close, he's definitely got 230kg in him on the right day.
@@theworldsstrongestman Fekete László held the atlas stone world record from 2003 with 232,5 kg until Brian Shaw i believe, the difference was Fekete lifted it to a 10cm higher platform, and he is a lifetime natural athlete! Now his sons are multiple natural world champions. One of his sons Miklós's atlas stone PR is 229,5 kg , he is very very strong, he got better genetics than most WSM finalist, but he also choose to be a natural strongman, so we will never see his full potential sadly.

Absolutly true, but let me tell u that Thor also didnt release the stones as soon as he put them down, is liek he forgot he needs to take his hands off the stones or something. It doesnt matter much cause he toped that time in a "run to stones" set up. But still rly nice spot it shouldnt be in the video
At the stone run on the second place they started direct at the first stone, at the stone run at the first place they started at the front of the platform, so they needed about 2 s to run to the first stone. That means, Thors run at the first place was incredible fast..
Carpe - you get 11 out of 10 for spotting that. Wow - it is so obvious once pointed out and it must ad somewhere around a second id guess to travel that 3/4 yards instead of one or two. We must standardise that for the future,. Thanks for your great spot,
I wish they’d standardise the starts. On some they had to run from 4m away and on others they’re standing by the first stone. You can’t have official world records if the conditions aren’t the same.

he did do an exceptional time at WSM - unbelievably good - but on a different set of stones and different distances and platforms etc... so we cant sadly include his time here. That not to say it isn't amazingly good though
It was at WSM 2008 where the stones were the 120 - 180 kg set. Quite a similar setup with the platforms too. Would have been great to see Arild attempt a heavier set

Truly the best are also the tallest, it’s an advantage to be tall in this event, Stoltman, Shaw, and Thor.. I am impressed with the ‘Beast’ for being able to stay within nano seconds of the taller boys.
Kieszkowski got nearly same time as Stoltman, that is impressive when you think that Mateusz doesnt have any priority on this event (like Tom). Anyways i like all competitors but thia channel and videos are biased for brita and scots.

Funnily enough - when this video was proposed, we asked ourselves the same question: "just how stable is the Giants Live and WSM set ups over the years. What we found was we had too many variables to include anything before the very start of 2016. Even then we had to make sure we crunched the numbers exactly as the most obvious problem variant we still had was - there are 2, yes TWO, sets of Atlas Stones. Or should I say - we have 2 sets of 6 Stones. - LIGHT: 100kg, 120kg, 140kg, 160kg, 180kg HEAVY: 120kg, 140kg, 160kg, 180kg, 200kg Hence, we straight away then had to make sure they were always the same stones and circumferences - and they were. As for the other specifics. The platforms changed too much in 2015 and earlier on Giants Live and the. story is similar at WSM. So start of 2016 was noted as identical platforms. And the protocol of the stones sitting in front of the same platforms in the same spots that are perfectly placed for the athletes to lift - yet sit plum in the centre of the square platform/plinths, and as they are the same stones, without breakages, or size changes with no changed platform positions or manipulated stone distances or change in the actual height or shape of the platform - or indeed the material of the platform all aligned from jan 2016. While at WSM we can crunch data yet, the contest has often flirt4d from rounded standalone plinths to boxsets and distance of stone carries has often been weather affected or surface adapted. Though that data will get crunched and we can analyse it hopefully on the channel sometime soon. So we felt the kit / equipment had been enough of a constant that ion that toile period it was now worthy of stating the records. Though we had to explain that there are 'the heavy' set or 'light set' .... BUT with over 21 contests on the two sets - and between 10 and 14 men tackling the stones act 21 international standard professional strongman arena contests gave us a good grounds with a data sample of close to 250 professional strongmen lifting these two sets of stones to state a case for the best ever in the very modern era. Almost every contest-proven, top-class contender, bar the obvious in big Brian Shaw, has done these stones from Jan 2016 to Jan 2020. As for Brian, he has come to the contests and been so close he has helped roll them about on at least 2, if not 3 occasions, but Brian hashed injury troubles. But Brian I'm sure would have been up there - but besides Brian there may be a couple others we haven't thought of, but we can think of no other stones with so much repetitive parameters being employed and on the finest calibre of strongmen again an again. But as is true - we can only go back just under 5 years - so im glad they have had so many contests runs on them in that short period. But even then its split to two sets of stones at these WSM Arena Shows

Brian Shaw was the greatest stone lifter of all time. Had he been allowed to try for it he very well could have done a 700lb stone. Unfortunately home gym records aren't real and weren't acceptable back when he wanted to break it. But of course everyone moved away from max stones as soon as it looked possible.
In Eddie's book he literally talks about how he showboats to freak out the opposition and loves showing off for the crowd to raise his brand. Shows how much you know 😂
Hafthor is hard to look past... and I mean that literally and in in stone lifting terms! haha - that giant frame has to help enormously .. and that's why someone like Tom Stoltman could well be an heir to the king of stones title in the next 5 years - id guess.

Gosh - I don't think the term 'joke' is remotely appropriate. What are you basing the comment on please? After 4 fairly brutal events in very rapid succession in a big arena show - where it is not unknown for 1 or 2 athletes each show to actually refuse to come out for the Atlas Stones at the end. And that is not due to injury, but sheer fatigue at the pace they must compete at. If it is based off of other contests such as the Arnolds you not comparing apples to apples. Pleased take in to account the key factors of what we are putting forward - its consistency with all the best men on the same kit in the same circumstances. So we must stress we are not saying this is the heaviest set of stones ever lifted - and this is not a max stone lifting contest - but I assume you aren't impressed by the 180kg or 396lbs stone and you think it may be easy for our competitors - a joke right? Well maybe if they were doing it at an expo style contest, such as the Arnolds, where events are spaced out by multiple hour chunks, or even split over multiple days. That is a different beast. You must come to an Arena show to see how the events can be separated by as little as 5 minutes, and not hours of rest. Anyone can lift a 180kg stone at their home gym, with their weight scales, and perfect sleep, with no stress, node hydration, perfect time management, and their own unique stone circumference etc etc... well - to be fair it is actually still pretty good going to lift a 180kg stone - May I ask if you have you lifted that weight of stone before Mr Hawaiidispenser?

We all know it's very hard for any regular man to budge these stones, so that's irrelevant. Despite all the (admittedly interesting) behind-the-scenes facts you brought up, it still comes down to the fact that the RESULTS show this is a speed event and not a top end strength event. No one struggled with the final stone from the light set and finishers were separated by mere seconds. To me that's a speed-centric event. It's a race across the field, essentially, and I find it of low interest in terms of strongman.

This is by far my most favorite event. I have some stones at home. Nothing this crazy heavy lol. But they are fun to workout with.
Arild Haugen had the record of 16.14 seconds in 2008. The distance between the stones look shorter on this events.

After 4 fairly brutal events in very rapid succession in a big arena show - where it is not unknown for 1 or 2 athletes each show to actually refuse to come out for the Atlas Stones at the end. And that is not due to injury, but sheer fatigue at the pace they must compete at. If it is based off of other contests such as the Arnolds you not comparing apples to apples. Pleased take in to account the key factors of what we are putting forward - its consistency with all the best men on the same kit in the same circumstances. So we must stress we are not saying this is the heaviest set of stones ever lifted - and this is not a max stone lifting contest - but I assume you aren't impressed by the 180kg or 396lbs stone and you think it may be easy for our competitors - a joke right? Well maybe if they were doing it at an expo style contest, such as the Arnolds, where events are spaced out by multiple hour chunks, or even split over multiple days. That is a different beast. You must come to an Arena show to see how the events can be separated by as little as 5 minutes, and not hours of rest. Anyone can lift a 180kg stone at their home gym, with their weight scales, and perfect sleep, with no stress, node hydration, perfect time management, and their own unique stone circumference etc etc... well - to be fair it is actually still pretty good going to lift a 180kg stone - May I ask if you have you lifted that weight of stone before Mr Hawaiidispenser?
@@GiantsLiveSTRONGMAN What does my having to lift a certain stone matter when I'm judging the event on its own merits? We all know it's very hard for any regular man to budge these stones, so that's irrelevant. Despite all the (admittedly interesting) behind-the-scenes facts you brought up, it still comes down to the fact that the RESULTS show this is a speed event and not a top end strength event. No one struggled with the final stone from the light set and finishers were separated by mere seconds. To me that's a speed-centric event. It's a race across the field, essentially, and I find it of low interest in terms of strongman.
