Toyota is going downhill with the turbocharger now. I’m Glad I bought my Tacoma 2.7 in 2020.
I have to agree. They are doing that to cut cost vs adding adding electric motor to boost. Rav4 prime is best example of no turbo 2.5l + electric motor for acceleration.
I have a 2020 Taco SR5 with the 2.7L. Bought it new in December of 2019, have 44k miles on it now. Other than oil changes and wiper blades everything is still original. 😊
Just rented a 2022 Toyota Camry from Enterprise. It has 58,000 miles on it, so they'll be selling it soon. Honestly, it reminds me of a Nissan Altima. And I don't mean that in a good way. The 2022 Camry feels like a disposable vehicle, overall.
@@deepcowI had a 2007 Taco with the 2.7L and it was still running great at 155,000 miles when I sold it in 2020. The ONLY reason I got a different truck is because I needed something with a lot more towing capacity. Still miss that truck for everyday driving.
I have that motor in my 2009 Awd Venza.Cheers
Everytime he talks about a junkyard he shows a pic of a GM dealership 😂😂. Funny and true! 🤣
It's true what Scotty says about junkyards. I grew up in a family garage business. When it came up that a customer wanted a used engine or transmission, we would call around to all the local junkyards, for prices and mileage. One of the junkyards always had them with "about 60,000 miles", and never in a car, always on the floor or a shelf. It was a running joke in the shop, when we had to call there. We would say, "I wonder if they have an engine with 60,000 miles on it?"
VW is Škoda
VW is SEAT
Audi is an upscale VW.
Audi, SEAT Škoda, Porsche, Bentley, Lamborghini, Bugatti, Ducati, Scania and MAN.
Škoda issue would be more of the body panels and interior trim parts but the suspension, transmission and engine are the same.
Just like GM of the 1980s into the '90s with all brands using the same parts (pretty much)...Chevy, Buick, Olds, Pontiac and Cadillac
Facts have never been an impediment for mechanics to ask outrageous sums of money.
Alignment is 20 euros in Greece and they aligned the steering wheel as well. Glad you said they rip us off here 😂
Got a 2008 Nissan Frontier for $8000,with 211,450 miles, and just changed the oil just once and haven't had no problems, talk about a good truck bought used
That's too much for that car.
Lol 8k? Ouch 😅
I looked at a 2008 with 200xxxmi for $3000 and WALKED AWAY!!! Lol why didn't you get a 5cyl Colorado or a Tacoma!?
You. Have. Over 2.5 Billion views 🤯. Good job and thank you!

Hey Scotty... My York U. Neighbour!!!
I was sold on your Chevy Spark review. "I had to buy one..."
A steal I believe for my Immaculate, not a sratch. Compact 2020 5 speed stick with only 16K's (10,000 miles.) Like you, I'am NOT comfortable driving an automatic!!!
Hey Scotty. From little Rhody. AGREED. Yes these roads are crazy out here lol
Scotty you are a LEGEND and thankx to TH-cam you will be around for ever to help us all for many years to come.
Outstanding video and presentation
I had an older Explorer and the wipers and washer quit working. It turned out that the wipers were controlled by a connection to the washer fluid canister, which was integrated with the wiper motor and washer circuit. When it went out, I had to purchase a new one. I didn't want to go the used route, because I couldn't be sure if it worked or how long it would last. I'm not sure if they still use that system on the newer models, but it was an easy and not too expensive fix.
Wrong! The Ford 3.8L V6 was notorious for head gaskets blowing at ~60K miles. My family had that engine in a LTD and a Taurus, and both blew head gaskets near 60K. As more info became shared on the Internet in the mid-90s, more of these same stories became known.
I would have told that guy considering a 3.8L Taurus with 63K to run away.
Just google "ford 3.8l head gasket 60k" to be swamped with articles.
True. The 3L Vulcan was the bulletproof model.
@@jamesballard6564I agree. The Vulcan V6 was a great engine. I had one in my 1990 Probe LX. The only issue was that it leaked oil from Day 1, so an extra quart was needed between oil changes. No big deal.
@@jamesballard6564Our neighbors had the Vulcan in their Mercury Sable. They ran that Sable without issue far longer (at least 15 years) than my family had the Taurus 3.8L.
They both had horrible transmissions and once the trans starts to slip the engine overheats and you replace the engine just to realize the trans is bad or blow ANOTHER head gasket from over revving bad trans
There are some good junk yards in New Jersey where they don’t pull parts until they are purchased
If you want 26 miles of awful roads, drive to wonderful Chaco Canyon here in NM. I won't take my Honda Fit on that road anymore. Last time, the dirt road vibrated my car so severely, it loosened up bolts holding the fenders and bumpers on! This one guy towing a camper had the camper's axle broken.
I owned a Honda Fit. Nice roomy car if you don't have a large family. Myself and my 2 dogs...we loved it.
Exellent cars...with a ton of cargo room
Had the original one it was a little rocket ship
Best car i have ever owned! Still do.
Yep Fit for a dog.
The first ones in the US were long-in-the-tooth in the rest of the world. They shrank in size soon after. First ones have a fantastic design. I carried a tandem bike with the front wheel off and the hatch closed. The other bike rider sat behind the driver. Diagonally you can carry 8 foot lumber with the hatch closed. I think they had Pioneer OEM speakers that sounded great. I put a 60wx4 stereo in it. Sounded great!
When I do steering work I set the wheel a few degrees to the right, so it's centered while I'm driving.
I don't know of the 3.8 L Taurus engine, but I have my dad's 1996 Ford Taurus with the 3.0 L Vulcan engine, 322,000 km on it. That engine runs so smooth still. So we went on and paid some dough to fix a bunch of leaky seals on it. I think it can make it to 500,000 km. Transmission is indeed weak though - I drive the old teapot gently.
My transmission went out with less than 100k mi do you have the manual or something? I remember it being a horrible engine in my Taurus, mom's mercury Sable, and my friends ford tempo even needed the engine replaced at one point
We never had to do any work on the engine all these years. Transmission is automatic, no work on it either. But it indeed doesn't respond well to pressing the gas too hard, so i just let it be and not force it. Ford Tempo were typically a 4 cylinder engine i cant say anything about that. @@16driver16
@@Ailanthus2007 the tempo gls came with the v6
I assume you imply it too had the same Vulcan engine then. As i said my experience with it has been excellent. Did your friend do regular oil changes?@@16driver16
A neighbor of mine bought a used 4-cylinder engine from a wrecking yard. It was still in the bed of his truck. He asked me to look at the inside of the valve cover to get my opinion on what he found. The inside of the valve cover had what looked like a thick layer of Vaseline on it. It may have been sludge or grease, but I couldn't tell. I told him he might be better off returning it and getting his money back rather than installing it and finding out it was damaged or wouldn't pass a smog test.
Sounds like sludge from lack of oil changes
I live in UK 🇬🇧. Skoda is a very good and reliable car. Holds its value too
My truck had the original suspension from 2011 when I bought it last year and I have worn the suspension and steering to the point I need to replace them in one year because I haul my equipment on dirt roads
My 1983 has the original and still hauls...
@@16driver16 your 1983 would fold with my loads on the roads I am on. I am consistently hauling 18k+ lbs on 6-15 miles of rough dirt roads.
@PGXPPR hard to tell when you just say "my truck" what truck it is.
@@16driver16 2011 Chevy 3500HD 4x4 diesel. The area I live in has roads between 10-20% grade as well
@PGXPPR thing rides like crap though, his newer peterbilt truck is much better in almost every way. The toplick is just as tough as nails and doesn't need the front end replaced after some bad roads
Front end alignments aren’t common anymore unless it’s a solid rear axle, most cars need 4 wheel alignments including that ridgeline. A good tech can align it with a straight steering wheel in 15 minutes.
The problem is and many mechanic shops they have the machines to do the alignment the vehicles but they don't even know how to use the machines I did better job with a tape measure to do the alignment on my own vehicle
Thanks Scotty 🍀
SCOTTY .... you forgot about used engines from JAPAN sold by JDM here in the US, they are LOW MILE engines and trannys and mostly less than $1,000 for an engine
5:48 you aint gotta do us like that Scotty 😂😂
Are VINs stamped on any engines these days? If so then a junkyard engine’s VIN could possibly yield mileage clues on its carfax history report right?
I wish I had Scotty as an uncle growing up and Hickok45 as a grandfather. 😄
Hey scotty I have a 2001 honda prelude car runs great no issues with the engine no lights on in the dash but I hooked up an autel scanner and it's reading that my abs unit is failed but my ABS light is not on . What could cause that? I don't drive the car like a race car it's a daily driver
Do a panic stop (easier on wet surface or snow) and see if they activate
Question please Scotty: At the start of this year, i bought a used Toyota Camry 2016 LE, with 76,000 Miles, at this moment the ODO stands at 77,200 Miles. ¿Can i still change the Transmission Fluid of my Camry? (I think the previous owner never changed it), other than that, everything in the car runs great for a Salvage.
Yes,every 50k miles.
What? I've never heard of changing g tranny fluid at 50k @@hotrodray6802
I’m about to buy a 4Runner but not getting a 25 turbocharged. I’ll get an older one with low miles.
Watch out for the liquid rebuild in a can.
Glad to see Scotty giving some love to Infiniti ❤
What about the Infinity G35 i want a Z car but I have a 5 year old and like how the G35 has a backseat. Are they close to z car fun?
What about a Lada? The parts they say I could get online.
no no no
If it's 25 plus years old and you want one than go to it. Can get parts from Estonia
Also the 90's 3.8 Ford Taurus had the notorius head gasket issue at around 60-90k miles. It should have been part of that Windstar lawsuit since it's the same exact engine but it wasn't. If it had the 3.0 you would have been in better shape in regards to this issue.
Looking for advice: can a car collector tell me if there is an effective tire treatment for extremely low usage to reduce sidewall rot?
No.
DOT date is the answer. Junk em after 7-8 years.
@@hotrodray6802 Thank you. Maybe this is why I've had trouble finding relevant info
Hi Scotty I have a 2018 civic type r and question how often should I change my manual transmission fluid ?

Injector? Fuel pressure issues? You are shooting in the dark without a scan tool or tuner
Replaced the engine in my subaru new engines were 7000.00 so I was screwed. Car was only worth 3000. I found a used one for 1000. And got it installed for another 1000. So it worked out. It running ok though I had to replace a drive shaft and brake lines 6 months later which was another 1000. Idk if anything else goes I might be done but it is still cheaper than a payment but I am starting to wonder.
what year, model, mileage?
@@rockinrob2004 05 legacy 140000mi engine has about 50000 mi according to the company I got it from.
Get the 2nd generation Honda fit the ones in US market are normal geared 5 speed auto transmissions. The 1st and 3rd gen have CVT trans! Not as good.
2nd gen is 2011-2014 years I believe.
My 2013 was a normal geared 5 speed automatic they can get 350k miles no prob
2nd gen 2009 - 2014 ..... i have a 2010 manual , they're bulletproof too
@@anyone9689 thanks and yes I just wish I knew why Honda went from CVt to a reliable geared auto then back to the not so reliable CVT? I’ve tried to research this choice and can’t find any information! But I honestly think they should’ve stayed with the normal trans that last longer in the 3rd gen but aside from being cheaper to make theres no reason to trade reliability for cheapness! And the excuse CVT gets better gas miles is crap! I got 35-42 miles to gallon in my 2nd gen 2012 mod and the CVT gets less mpg or only 2 mpg more not worth it
I am looking at a 2006 Scion xB with 110,000miles and manual transmission. Is it worth the $3,500 asking price. How much should I offer?
THAT is a little high
I'd offer $2500-3000

Not Scottie haha, but I have a 2018 Mazda CX50, around 145k km haven’t had any problems at all! Good luck on your search!
How does the break booster work on an electric vehicle?
Might have a small electric vacuum pump that supplies the necessary vacuum for that....

Hey Scotty true story. I live in oregon. I just renewed my tags last week for 2 years on my license plates. For the first time in the mail they did not say what the price was. When I went to the DMV I found out they now have fluctuating prices. True story they go by how many miles per gallon your car gets now. So if your car gets more miles to the gallon they charge you more for your tags because you're not buying the gas tax. People who get higher miles per gallon Don't buy as much gas and pay as much gas tax. So it seems they're moving to electric cars are going to have to pay by the mile now in Oregon as soon as they can get it passed. So they talk millions of people into buying Electric cars so they can now charge them more
That's wild! I barely drive my vehicle, so I'd bet mine would be astronomical!
Lol before going to renew the tags take it to the racetrack to lower your econ. Or just drive it every day for a month in a lower gear

scotty, i think you are wrong about the brakebooster. when the engine makes the vacuum, the booster activates and pushes the pedal to the floor. so its working. if it was damage it wouldnt do anything ... quite logical. something else is wrong. probably check the assembling, to much play wrong brake pads, etc,
