      My 228i just passed 100,000 miles with no issues. Suddenly oil puddles, so metal oil pan replacement about to be installed. Terrified about what's coming next! Hope just a few thousand dollars more equates to another 70 or 80,000 miles. Sweating bullets.

      @@HyytekkHate to tell you but the oil pan gasket is an expensive fix but otherwise, this is a good engine that with regular maintenance should last you a long time.

      The parts are cheap and FCPeuro you can buy the kits for them. Also if you not lazy you can work on them yourself or even find a reputable shop to help you. Once fixed they’re reliable like a Toyota.

      BMW has a specific business model that comes with their cars: Buy it, use it for 3-4 years then dump it for a new one. The times you kept them running for ages is long gone.

    If you want a 'nice' second-hand car, buy the best Lexus your budget will allow. It's almost a no brainer.

      That's what I did last week. A 2019 Lexus IS with 14k miles and 5 services completed. Yeah, it drives like new of course but it even still smells new!

I'd suggest that many people drive BMWs for the perceived kudos of having an expensive German car, nothing more...and without much care and significant regular expenditure such 'ultimate driving machines' WILL bite them in the arse.

      But where are sub 7s 0-100 lexus's? I cant seem to find. Can do anything lower than that after getting used to golf GTE, has been the most rock solid car so far and doesnt compromise that much in acceleration :/ 140k and battery and engine is still very good! I would probs get GTE 8 instead of lexus.

    I’ve bought Mazda’s since the late 80’s with no problems. Started with B2000 truck and have a 2023 CX5.

      Mazdas are great. I had mazda 6 2006,manual. Just oil changes and brakes. Amazing car. To bad I got rear ended and insurance just scrap it.

      2014 Mazda 6 here. Wife chose it for me. I bought it. And absolutely no regrets. So reliable and low maintenance. Thinking I will trade in and buy a cx9 here soon for a little more room. And I've grown to trust Mazda lol so I don't wanna go with anything else.

      i drive a 2022 ranger and it is great but I love to drive my wifes 2022 mazda 3 for fun. If Mazda would bring a mid size pick u to the US I would grab it tomorrow.

    I have never owned a Toyota until last year, I bought a 2017 tacoma trd off road absolutely love it. Sad to say the previous owner didn't do much maintenance on it! So spent the money a got it done what a difference to drive

    My 2015 Mazda5 Sport with 102,000 miles is awesome. And the acceleration will surprise you. It even has a manual shifting mode. And I also really like the color of the red metallic finish.

    My nephew bought a used X3. He is a millwright and he did a lot of the work himself before he sold it. Replaced a lot of cheap plastic parts, including the OEM water pump which had a plastic fan.

    In the uk owning a bmw is pretty cheap, every mechanic can work on them, they are still unreliable but getting them fixed is not all that stressful

    I was looking for an old mid 2000s Jaguar to have as a daily driver. I never knew how nightmarish it is to maintain the electronics, I do know that the 4.2 v8, the 4.0 inline 6 engines are great. The 3.0 v6 engines are from ford but still reliable. But I failed looking for one, due to almost everyone having an issue, except for one, but it was in a really shady dealer which I avoided after one visit. I ended up with a Lincoln town car, the crown Victoria is really good too, you cannot beat a classic

    Thank you for not trashing on BMW. I've had about a dozen of them and my family loves them. Everything you said about the technology, engines, transmissions, etc is true. Fortunately, my family has learned which models to pick and how to maintain them, so we enjoy our ownership. I sold my 2013 335i to buy a 2004 m3 because I enjoy the more simple car to take car of haha

      Me too - I traded in my 3 series with the twin turbo n54 engine for the same car with the much simpler and more reliable n52 engine. Yes, it is slower but just as much fun and much easier to work on and very reliable.

    Lots of TOYOTA People do not know but " Toyota WW engine family is a series of 16 valve DOHC inline-4 turbo diesel engines with common rail injection. These engines are based on the BMW N47, modified for use in Toyota vehicles, starting with the Verso in 2014

      Beauty covers can help protect some vehicle's ignition systems (spark plug coils for example) from water.

    Bought a X4, been driving since 2019. So far, other than annual maintenance, I haven't had a single problem. I think problems accumulate when people can't afford to replace with OEM parts. Aftermarket parts are not BMW quality, they will not last

    I owned one BMW, and never again. It was fun to drive, but way to many small annoying things went wrong with it from the fan clutch, oil leaks, power stearing fluid leak, radiator leak, electric window control arm x2, and fuel pump out. I only had it for two years and it was a nightmare. Traded it in for a prius, wanted something dependable while I was finishing school. Here, I am still driving the Prius 180,000 miles later.

    I drive a 1996 dodge Dakota. 3.9, stick. doesn't use any oil or check engine light never comes on. I'm not big man on campus with a BMW though.

    I wouldn't buy anything else apart from BMW in the price range of a used one, but it has to be a straight 6 port injected. I will have to admit though you have to be able to fix it yourself as gaskets and water pump can fail as early as 60k miles , if you can't fix it yourself, you could spend an astronomical amount fixing it. I do have a backup Toyota when the BMW needs attention.

    Ive had 2 bmw X5, both E53, a 2004 and a 2006, they were both great no issues and lovely car to drive !
    Just wondering if everything is more expensive for u in the US and not for us in the UK.

      @@miguelvega7769 you're right about that as well. He stated he drives 8000miles a year. Divide that by 12, that's 666 miles a month or 164 miles a week average. I drive 80 miles a day roundtrip just to work. Which is considered pretty average. What I mean is cars don't last as long as we tend to age cars extremely fast with the amount of miles we drive and how we use vehicles for everything compared to Europe.

    In Italy Alfa Romeo are cheap regular cars easy to work on, but lately they did a couple fast models, 4c 8c, if you consider low production numbers, hard to find parts and mechanics and still their usual unreliability, it all comes together.

    One of the best was the E36 M3. Made from 92 to 99. Straight 6 with 5 spd man. Hell of a car.

    Funny you say that about BMW Scotty! A friend of mine brags about his M3 but in the same sentence also brags that it’s in the shop so much he knows his bmw mechanic better than most friends! lol luckily he’s also got a Nissan GTR that is reliable so he’s got wheels when the bimmer is in the shop lol

    Local HERTZ outfit unloaded a bunch of these here in Ohio. My elite neighbors ran to buy them--they are still prancing around in them--first knock on the noggin--"REQUIRES PREMIUM FUEL." Next one: "WARNING OIL SYSTEM," scares them to take the car in for an oil change at Dealer: $200 KA-CHING, wait until the plastic parts start melting and getting brittle....

    Hey Scotty!
    I have a 91 audi 200 20v (5 cylinder turbo) avant.
    It has over 460k miles. Original engine and trans.
    We also have a 2014 audi allroad with 156k.
    It has been MORE reliable than our 2009 Toyota Highlander with 108k (yeah, that surprised me..).
    Some audis are indeed trouble but if you know what to look for you can indeed find a solid reliable and well built Audi.

    These things are incredibly expensive to maintain. I own a shop and see them all the time. Avoid the German cars. There's a reason all my techs drive Toyotas.

    As a European, I can never understand the fascination and obsession with BMW, what is the big deal please? They are terrible in the snow and ice, oil leaks aplenty, plastic engine parts, constant issues with engine mgmt lights, overrpriced parts and service, and so on and on and on? Someone please explain? To me BMW's have always been just a slightly better than average car, not quite at Mercs level, but above most other European brands.

    Had my 5 series for 200k miles and still running strong. Has oil leaks ( thats all highmile bmws ) but if anything happens to it major, its going in the trash

    I suspect plastic engine beauty covers may be part of a crumple zone/ cushioning system for a pedestrian who has been struck (as a second layer between the hood and the hard valve cover), however I have not confirmed this. They're probably there for pedestrian protection regulatory compliance...

    Indeed if you want to tow heavy items, the manual transmission will be the only long lasting choice. And will save on gas cost, too.

      Manual transmissions prevent road rage and accidents because you can't just floor the gas pedal you have to focus on shifting gears which keeps your mind on the car speed and operating the car correctly instead of letting your mind drift and having accidents

    You are so right about BMW. Probably aame as AUDI. Their coolant lines are all plastic(PVC). They all melt away. VANOS losing hydraulics drive crazy.

    My Honda had 160k when i sold it. My Lexus had around 150k when i sold that. And now my Bmw has 140k miles on it. Did all the regular maintenance and treated all my cars good. No issues with any of them. But my bmw is still my favorite. Just a great car to drive. More costly you bet. But we pick and choose our battles.

    Good day Scotty and All.
    I currently live in Germany and i will agree with the BMW being crap in the USA but not in Germany. I have a BMW 2010 116 diesel. Paid 3000 dollars and this car runs like a champ. Handle and performs amazingly. Gets me 600 plus mile full tank. Ive had no issues over a year having this vehicle.

    I saw a 1994 Mazda 323 with 900,000 km and the meter is broken since 4 years so probably it passed the million and the A.C compressor is still the same factory compressor which is 29 years old.

    BMW--the Ultimate Driving Machine, my daughter is on her 4 BMW and all of them were great Vehicles and she Drives like a Race Car Driver. She did have to put 2 air Cond. Compressors on her last one but it had over 100,000 miles on vehicle...

    Toyotas are the best. We have 4 in the family. We usually buy and trade them in every 6 years 150,000Miles. Only services we did was doing $19.99 oil changes once a year and no other maintenance done. Great cars!

    I currently have a 2017 V6 Accord with almost 300,000 miles. Never needed any repairs and has been incredible in every way. Next I am considering the Honda HR-V, because I have a kid now. I don't like the EV direction Honda is going in. Toyota has the better idea of focusing on hybrids. My next car might be my last Honda :(

    My 2010 bmw x5 xdrive30i has over 250k miles, easy to work on parts are always there and ORIGINAL MOTOR AND TRANNY, folks don’t do maintenance and preventive maintenance and wait until they vehicle damn near died to now repair 😂

    My '20 M5 competition is absolutely too awesome. It does cost more than my '16 Ford fusion to maintain, but it's entirely worth it. A luxury sport sedan that literally humiliates almost any gas burning car on the road.
