Nice video as always. Thanks!
That time of the year again. Man I can't wait to go out there one day to fish you with brother
"What did Mike do?"
Mikey being a "Salt water snob" (joking) . 😅😅😅
Us mere mortals are happy catching "babies". We don't have anything to rival the coastal fisheries.
That's why I love watching your vids!
😜😜😜😜😜😜. I appreciate your support brother!!! I am an admitted BAIT snob for sure!! I personally won’t use “cast and retrieve” baits like paddle tail shad bodies. I appreciate catching fish much more on baits that must be worked just right. HOWEVER!!…… I’m not a purist! I’m If the situation dictates it, I WILL use whatever I have to. That includes trolling. I’m not above using baits that are catching fish, but I rarely troll.
Mike, perfect how to video!!!
Thanks brother!!! 👍👍😁
Great video buddy Keep up the good work Tight Lines and Fish On. Where you guys are fishing we gonna go try for the big girls North NJ or NY. We are from MD
Raritan Bay. Fishing should be good for another few weeks.
We have been using mojo 12 oz bottom with small 9ers umbrella rig and been catching a ton this year highly recommend it
Great idea! Another awesome option with a Mojo.
Thank you I appreciate your knowledge.. I'm about to start rock fishing in Maryland on the Chesapeake.. Is someone here looking how to and what to use and and how far let the Lines out.. You did a excellent job keep up the go work step-by-step
I really appreciate that brother!! Thank you 😁😁👍👍
Thanx Mike. Going to try on the 30' break south of Chesapeake Beach this week, hope the wind lays down!
Looks snotty all week so far. Let me know if you’re seeing any migratory fish there yet. Water is still warm up north.
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS yesir and thanks again for the education bro . Much appreciated
That's the dream .
We would love to get up there and do some trolling or drifting with eels this year. We haven't been up that way in years since we used to catch them out of Rudee Inlet. We have also down sized our boat from a 23 walk-around to a 22 bay boat. I just don't even know where to start so if you could give a little insight on ramps and an area to maybe start. Thanks for all your videos and information!
Sure. Shoot me an email mikesmedley9@gmail.com
nice Mike!...
Thanks Brah!!!
Hey Mike, love your vids. What clip on counter are you using and have you had good luck with it? Was just going to sharpie mark my braid as I've read they're all about the same nonsense...
Nice video thanks Bro!! Do use specifically trolling rods. I have Tony Maja trolling rods
I have literally hundreds and hundreds of rods, but I helped design these Striper Stealth rods and they are the best rod for live and cut bait and they have super soft tips for trolling spoons or mojo rigs.
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS tried to buy some, they never have them in stock 😂
YAY Mojos!!!
Looks like you got some new line counters like them better?
Yeah man. So far so good!!!
Hey Mike, love your content! You probably have a video uploaded that I've just not found but do you ever troll hard plastics like shad pattern cranks or Rapala's? Thanks!
Thanks brother!! I used to troll Mann’s stretch baits a lot. I trolled big glide baits on video a few years back. Here ya go. th-cam.com/video/A4B7mZqavhg/w-d-xo.html
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS awesome! Thanks!
Hey Mike-what test leader would you recommend? I’ve heard up to 100, but then I think you would have to crimp? Any info on leaders? Thanks brother!
Was out last night Mike got a nice brace of bass 1 was 7lbs the other was 9lbs7ozs got them on ragworm and lugworm good night dho brother they are big ones for here I always go out earlier whit the bait just to see what's about was looking at one of your video's whit the mojos do they come in 28 to 30 grams never seen them b4 mike id like to try spinning whit them let me no if u have any light ones most appreciated if I could get one r two off you that yellow colour is dinamite over here brother I always get big ones on that colour let me no Mike micker here from Ireland🐟🐟🐟🐟🎣👍😂
Hey mike I truly love your striper videos... when trolling do you use the same rod when using mojos and bunker spoons...?
Thanks brother!! Yep. I use Striper Stealth MH for everything, but the H is good too. I tend to go a bit lighter than most. Code Smedley5 will save you a few beans if you want to get some. I helped design those rods and there really isn’t anything else out there with the same characteristics in the price range. I think you’ll really like them 👍👍
When you let out line using the line counter do you leave it on the rod and the line wrapped around it when you’re fighting a fish?
Mike, what rod holders are they? where did you get them? thanks!
Nice 40+ lbs Smeds!!!
Thanks brother!!!👍👍
Hey mike what line setup are you using on the reels for mojos. Mono or braid?
I see Catch the fever have the new Hellcat rod. Are you going to donany of the reviews on that? I might want one or two.. 😆 🤣 😂
No, but the new indestructible tip will be coming out in the Striper stealth too. 👍👍
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS Shit. Which one will be better?
Can you suggest anything for bank fisherman like some tips or baits I should use trying to switch it up thanks 🎣
Fresh cut herring or Shad or Bunker In saltwater is best if you can net it or buy it. After that chicken livers work surprisingly well. Fish near points or any kind of drop off or contour as land goes into the water.
Mike what are you using, striper stealth medium heavy? Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks brother. Medium Heavy👍👍
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS you da man!
WeIl this work good in lakes? What time of year/water temp is this method best?
Mike great video! but i have a quick question if I'm using braided main line would I use a Palomar knot and tie directly to the 3 way swivel?
If you use a Palomar, tie to a snap swivel first than snap to the three way. . Otherwise use a trilene knot straight to the three way for braid.
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS awesome, thanks for the quick response mike.
Great vids, what brand of mono do are you currently using?
I really like the Berkely pro spec 30lb.
Great vid... What type of spoons are you using and where can they be purchased?
Thanks brother!! These are Tony Maja spoons. They are on Amazon. I have some links in the description.
Nice, where do you charter out of? Contact info? I’m interested in a day trip come next season, thanks
I’m from CT and I was wondering if you have any tips for the Connecticut river and the Long Island sound
Here ya go brother. We shot this on the Long Island Sound. th-cam.com/video/3_g1CUad5T8/w-d-xo.html
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS Thanks man I’m pretty new and it means a lot.
Sure brother!! Go get em all.
Mike, can you please share what kind of line counter you are using? Thank you!
Sure. Here ya go. amzn.to/2INd0ZO
Thank you sir!
What pound test do you use when trolling also do you recommend this MH rod setup for depths in 40-60 ft range
We use 30lb mono main line for everything except jigging and casting plugs. We also use the MH for everything except jigging and casting.
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS thanks Mike appreciate the info as always
What type of spoon is that
How fast are you trolling the mojo rigs
If you had to choose one bait for surfacing fish year round what would it be
Eels for natural and BKD, Sluggo, fluke style baits for artificials
I do a lot of drop fishing in the Hudson with bloods where did you find those line counters
The link is in the description 👍
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS thx again mike
You got it brother!
that design only comes in yards just so you know.
Have you ever been in dam 1 in troy NY?
No.
Good evening mike thinking about doing some kite fishing for strippers on West Point lake with live trout old south Florida guy what do you think
Interesting. Covering water is the trick. If you can still do that it might work
Have never seen these before. Do these work in freshwater lakes?
I played with them a bit in fresh and they do work. Absolutely. You can use the Mojo to get any style bait down there basically. One guy used them with small umbrella rigs and loves them.
What makes it a trolling type day? When do you troll?
Great question. The shortest answer is WHEN FISH ARE VERY SPREAD OUT. We see them on sonar, but they are in small spread out groups.
Thank you. Think we had that today in Raritan. I wasn’t the captain and didn’t look like trolling was on his mind. Went to Sea Bass. Lots of shorts but pulling in fish.
Which action stealth rods are you using with the mojo rigs? I gave this a shit this season but did not find any fish. Going to try again in the spring.
I use MH for everything. 👍
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS thanks, that was what was aiming for and going to order a few this winter. They have been out of stock for the most part.
They have struggled to keep them in stock due to crazy popularity and Covid. As soon as they a few thousand in they are gone out the door. Such a great rod for the price.
@@redsoxwinagain2007 Same here. I check their site everyday!
Where did you get those rod holders?
They are CeSmith adjustables and the rail is my design made by Joey Scruggs. Both links and numbers are in the description. 👍👍
Where do you get the spools mike
Amazon has all kinds brother 👍👍
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS thanks mike. I’m sitting on my hands waiting for stripers. I fish out of the mullica river near great bay
Any luck with mojos on lakes?
It took me a while, but I did catch fish on them. Just needed to stay with the small ones. 2-4oz with 5-6” bodies.
Coppers spinners topys r any spinners copper are leatel for bass what ever it is about that colour u think so brother👌🐟🎣⚓🗽
24oz? Man, I've been trolling with WAY to light
I once saw a grown man cry after losing 150 ft of wire leader. Got hung up on structure. A few days later I heard about a captain who found 150 ft of melted metal encased around his prop.
Ouch.
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS so to your point I agree, avoid wire leader.
Hear of anyone using these rigs for musky?
I haven’t but I’m sure they will work.
why are they so much money? it's still just a big jig head with a rubber body. if you're fishing in 30 ft of water with a 20 oz mojo rig trolling it at 4 miles an hour aren't you just dragging it on the bottom.
The terrible treble sews their mouth together and they can’t breathe fight is over. Now we can’t keep them over 36”
Trolling is boring as hell
It definitely can be.
