Capt Mike and team old school auto thumbs up, very wholesome video. Always nice to see the youngins being shown the ropes especially when im teaching my son to fish now. Im out on the chesapeake bay been slower and quiter this year and past couple days fish have also been spread out and in small schools. Caught a few nice fish past couple days so can't complain.
The advice on thrashing on the top is priceless. I learned the hard way when the spoon came out and did a bee line towards me hit me in the face. Thanks Mike.! Always learning from your videos.
No, I haven’t fished a tournament in quite a few years. I’m not even sure how they will do it with the slot. I know slot events have been going on for years, but I find it strange to hope for a certain sized fish and not the largest. It might be fun though.
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS Apparently it is biggest fish by weight wins (length as tie breaker). Can't tell you how valuable your videos have been. I ordered several of those flutter spoons. Any other words of advice? This is my first official fishing tournament.
Absolutely brother! I have used these everywhere from shallow rivers to deep lakes and saltwater creeks, bays, and the ocean. Anywhere that Bass are feeding on baitfish will be money!! Here is the link if you need it. amzn.to/32x6lZk
We have lakes that deep here, but rarely Target fish deeper than 40-50 feet. Right now power reeling spoons up threw the schools from bottom to the top very fast is best. Just drop and reel all day. 👍👍👍
YES. In freshwater lakes it works all year, in saltwater it works whenever Stripers are there. Because they are great deep or shallow I use them all year.
I’m looking for a good rod to pair up with Accurate ATD 12 for a tuna mahi wahoo fishing any suggestions ? Thanks love the videos bought some spoons for this seasy
Great video. Definitely going to try this. On a side note, I am a sea pro owner, as well. Where can I get that awesome hat and hoodie. Haven’t seen either on the sea pro site. I’ve been looking for the hat in that combo of colors since I got my 219 a year ago.
Thanks brother! The hoodies are our team jerseys. You can get them from the link in the description. We have a new blue one that is awesome too. The hats should be on the Sea pro site. Shoot me an email if you don’t see them there. Mikesmedley9@gmail.com
6’6” Headfirst custom slow pitch rod. You can contact Rich Coulson on Instagram for one. They are super high end and excellent rods made specifically for jigging Stripers if you want one. You want a limber, short, very strong and very light rod. You don’t want the spoon the travel too far while working it and the short length keeps you comfortable and not worn out. 👍👍
Definitely with Bucktails, I don’t see why a Clark spoon wouldn’t work, it’s more of a trolling spoon but when fish are under the boat I won’t dis-count anything.
Hey Mike, I fish a lot with that big Nicholas spoon. I usually just power reel it but I was thinking of using trying one of those slow pitch rods. What are your thoughts on those now that you have been using them.
Not always. It’s actually hard for a fish to determine the size of a flashing spoon. They never get a good look at if you keep it moving to determine size. They bite at the flash. 👍
Thanks for the video Mike, been a long time follower. When do you decide to jig spoons vs throw shads? Is it just a matter of preference? Just trying to figure out what to do when.
Absolutely! I really appreciate you representing!! 😁😁👍👍. This is the link to order from Jimmy at BBA. He’s a great guy and he will get you whatever you would like, fast. www.bbajerseys.com/product/tos-hoodie/. Thank you!! 😊
I appreciate the advice always. I consider myself a Rookie still w/only 3 years back into fishing and 5 months into learning everything other than live bait that I was taught as a kid but I see a fish finder and I'm like, "nooooo!" 😄 Me personally. God willing my first local tournament in March/April and (again) I appreciate the lessons/advice. 👍
Mike, Can you tell us a little about the small ways we can help you on TH-cam ? Does watching the commercials help in a significant way ? What is the best way to buy the stuff you use ? I get tons of useful information from your videos and want to help support the channel. Thanks Jim B - Beverly, MA
I really appreciate that brother!! That’s very thoughtful of you. If you use my Amazon links whenever you buy something on Amazon I get a small commission that really helps out over time with fuel and expenses. You don’t have to buy anything specific, just use any one of my Amazon links in the video descriptions like this one; amzn.to/32x6lZk. As long as you use one of my links to get to Amazon you can buy whatever you like and it will really help me out. There no additional cost to you. I gotta tell you brother, you made my day 😊😊. You’re a thoughtful guy. Thank you!
Go with a short limber rod. Big Mike is using a very old Ugly Stick that’s only 5’ 8” and it’s perfect for an inexpensive option. Short, soft, and strong is what you want. You can certainly use a long stiff rod if you wish, like my brother in the video, but it’s definitely not the best choice. (We just didn’t have another jigging rod aboard). Long rods sweep the spoon too far if you’re not careful and they will wear you out after a few hours. I’m following this video up with a rigging and rod/reel video. The short blue rod is designed specifically for this type of jigging. It’s made by Rich Coulson of Heardfirst rods. He’s on Instagram. Tell him you want my rod and he will hook you up 👍👍
Always enjoy watching!!! Great videos
Thanks David!! 🙏🙏
I just started using flutter spoons and I noticed that you could feel the spoons flutter if you lower it at the right speed.
What ounce bucktails would you recommend for 20-25ft?
If you’re drifting fast I like 1-1/2oz or 2oz. If you’re moving slow I like 5/8 or 3/4 👍
Right on brother
Great video bud. Thoroughly explained and backed up with screaming lines and fat striper. You got a sub!
Thanks brother!!
awesome video!
Thanks brother!!!
When using Ben's spoons do you use a leader with the braid or not and what lb braid ?
Thanks in advance and really enjoyed the videos !!
50lb braid with 20-25lb fluorocarbon leader. We use a 20ft leader attached with an FG knot. Thanks for your support brother! 👍🙏

New tactic. I usually use dollar bills. Oh, stripers. My bad. 😂 great info.
Works every time!!!😛😛😛
What was the weight of the spoons?
Around 3oz.
Are you fishing the Tiki Lee's tournament on the Chesapeake Bay?

Unfortunately, Maryland has not implemented a slot limit for bass. 1 fish per person, 19 inch minimum.
Ahhhh. I wasn’t aware of that. Hopefully soon.
Awesome I just love my spoons…..

Are you matching the spoons to the size of your bait fish? I know this will work on the feeding schools at Lake Anna VA .
Thanks
