My mom and I both have faces that people just like to tell everything to, she's a doctor, I'm a nail tech, the level of oversharing we both get from clients is pretty extreme but atleast we can both keep a secret. I actually keep a poster up as a reminder to clients that I'm a nail tech, not a therapist/mental health professional.

I had the same issue as a barista. This one lady in particular would come in multiple times a day to talk about her fiance and her boyfriend and how annoying and needy her kids were and how her family was stopping her from being able to spend as much time with her boyfriend as she wanted to. I had to look her fiance in the eye knowing all this. But neither one of them tipped ever so I told her that I have zero respect for her as a woman and I don't want to hear about it and I just did my best to avoid her fiance because I wanted to say something so bad. He was annoying and I didn't like him but he worshipped the ground she walks on and didn't deserve to be cheated on and lied to.

In like 8th or 9th grade, I was paired with a guy in my English class to read a book together. He randomly told me his mom didn't love him one day. He seemed so defeated and I didn't know how to react. He moved on to another topic as quickly as he dropped it on me. I'm 28 now and still think about it sometimes. I hope he's doing okay.

Last year I went into my campus art building and ran into another student who asked if I was in painting, I wasn’t but I needed help getting into the drawing room and she said that she could probably help. I followed her to the painting room where she proceeded to tell me about all the art she had been making, I was confused, but I went with it. Then she started talking about how she held some grudge against her parents for having lots of money while randomly taking some of her paint and putting smears of it on perfectly good paintings she had made, then she showed me another painting and told me it was inspired by an abusive relationship she had just gotten out of. When one of her friends came by, she muttered “I’m so fricking high right now”. By this point I was pretty concerned, but I managed to get into the room eventually. It was weird, but I hope she got in a better headspace down the line.

For sure. I do my best to be understanding when people are being crabby or over sharing or whatever socially unacceptable behavior they exhibit.
Oversharing in particular is a common result of emotional trauma so let's all try to be patient with other people. You never know what they deal with and they indeed could just be very lonely and desperate for someone to talk to.
It can be awkward but I usually assume they are a few fries short of a happy meal or just socially awkward. On the bright side there's seldom any malice behind their shenanigans even if it does make everyone else uncomfortable lol.

Roughly a half hour after meeting my best friend, she told me she had ovarian cancer two years ago. Wtf do you even say to that
She later said she told me quickly because she was super self-conscious about her deep voice, which she got from her cancer pumping out way too much testosterone, forcing her into male puberty (which is how her family caught the cancer before it got too bad). I was basically the only freshman high schooler who didn’t seem to care about her voice, so she already felt comfortable with me.

I worked in a retail store, if you're on the floor, you're helping customers or putting items back.
This girl with a giant birthmark on half her face comes by, so I greet her and offer help. She then gets to talking about how her 2 kids got taken away from her, so her Dad adopted them, so now her kids are technically her siblings.
She goes on to tell me why her kids got taken away. She explains she was a heroin addict, and one of her kids took some needles to preschool or daycare and the police were called. Police tested positive for narcotics.
Idk if she went to jail, but afterwards, she said "Oh yeah I just got hired, I'm starting in 2 days".

Husband and I recently bought a house in a really nice neighborhood. It's one of those neighborhoods where you wave at people as they drive or walk past. A lot of older people who have lived here for 20+ years, everyone is just super nice, and makes the effort to know their neighbors. Went to get the mail one day and the woman who lives across the street came by to strike up a conversation. Within 5 minutes of talking to me, she told me in explicit detail about the marital rape charge she filed against her husband, how he was trying to fight it, and how he's trying to financially ruin her because she dared to try to leave him. I now know her entire story from the abuse she suffered up until she moved into her dad's house across the street with her brother after their father died, but I don't even remember the woman's name. That was the first, and so far only, time I've talked to this neighbor. It was very jarring.
I've told my husband that I have a "Mother Confessor" face because it's surprisingly common for strangers or acquaintances to just...tell me things that I don't need to know.

I was at a co-worker's barbecue and was introduced to one of his friends from high school. The friend briefly mentioned that he was a furry, and when I didn't react, took that as a green light to completely overshare. Within the first 15 minutes of meeting him, I'd learned about his fursona, that he spoke Dova, Klingon, and Dothraki, that he kept katanas in the trunk of his car, and that his last relationship ended because his ex started shagging her dad. The guy has ruined the Skyrim theme for me because he pulled out his phone and sang along with the theme song to prove that he knew Dova (which I never questioned.)
Andrew, if you're out there...thanks for the anecdote.

I used to work the cash register on the overnight shift at a truck stop convenience store. There was this really weird couple maybe in their 50s or 60s who would come in. They just seemed... off. They first started talking about Jesus and how great he was, but then transitioned into talking about how they didn't like summoning demons anymore because sometimes the demons would bite. The wife rolled up her sleeve, revealing an arm covered in bite marks. That was one of my first meetings with them.
Eventually, they stopped coming in after the husband had tied the wife to a chair for several hours and refused to let her go.

But he has been through quite a bit and seems to really need to talk to someone so I'll give him 15 minutes anytime i see him. After that I force my way out of the conversation.
Well one time got REALLY awkward. We, as usual, are standing to the side of the enterance to safeway, were there is a water spot where people fill up jugs of water a lot of cabins in homer Alaska are dry cabins, no running water, and while some stranger pulls up and starts to fill up his jugs of water... the old man proceeds to tell me, and the 7 people within earshot, thatbhe believes his daughter is having physical relations with her son. The hit filling up his jug drops it and spills water, and the only thing I can say in responce to the old man is "Ok.". Really uncomfortable.
