I never slept more than 6 hours a night, even as a kid, in a adulthood, the same, when I retired 11 years ago, I decided I would try to sleep more, because listening to a lot of talk about the need for at least 8 hours, all I accomplished was to get more anxious about sleep and got worse. Today at 68, I don’t worry about sleep anymore, I go to bed at the same time every day, exactly at 10 and wake up at 4, stay in bed for a guided meditation for another hour or two, sometimes I fall back to sleep, sometimes I don’t, get up and go for a 20 minute walk, and I stay active all day long, take a hot shower at 8:30 at night, put my orange glasses and read for about 45 minutes, and go to sleep, I do this every day with no exceptions. I take no naps, I don’t feel tired at no point during the day. I have accepted that, for me that’s the right amount of sleep, and don’t ruminate about it. I have to mention that the last time I got sick with a cold was the winter of 2005. Then again, I do eat very healthy and exercise regularly. But that’s me every one is different.

Ask me! I hardly slept 6 hours my entire life! I am nearly 50, and I don't usually feel tired in the mornings. Sometimes, due to medications, I woke up a few times to pee some times! But I try not to stress too much about it! I go to bed early, finish dinner by 6-7pm. I eat breakfast at lunch, and I don't eat ultra processed foods. Everyone thinks I look way younger for my age and I never had covid even though I worked with people as a front liner.
So, each to their own ! When I bump onto SLEEP videos I try to learn if anything else could help me sleep a bit deeper.

So I do all of these things, but what really improved me to sleep thru the night without waking up as a 52 year old menopausal woman- was when I purchased a 100% French linen duvet cover and linen sheets. I haven’t slept thru the night without at least waking up to pee in years! I believe it’s because I don’t get too hot or too cold and they’re just so cozy! ❤ worth every penny. I put them in my guest room as well and my houseguests said they had the best sleep of their lives! And they’ve been here before when I didn’t have them on the bed and they never mentioned sleeping well. ❤😊

I'm partly retired 61 I love to go to bed at 7am I sleep til 3-4 am without waking up. I feel great when I get up I get dressed first thing Then I take my probiotic with turmeric. Then I go walk for an hour Drink lemon water. Then I have avocado toast I make myself Then I go to work for 4 hrs. At noon I have my organic lunch and I'm done. Early afternoon I look at email Tv news Call loved ones Dance play guitar Work puzzles Knit It's a mindset of routine really but I love it so I guess it works. When I was raising my children I would go to bed at 8pm right after them. I have always believed in great quality sleep. My mother 88 still sleeps 8 hrs very healthy no meds

I have always been a night person I get at least 8 hours of sleep but I don’t go to sleep until 2 am and sleep until 10am. I love the quiet of the night. I can’t wake up early tried for years so I think each of us are either early or late people. That is my opinion. It has worked for me. I’m 72 and have been a night person all my life and still have deep sleep. I read and journal every night …I always have a cup of organic loose camomile tea with a tiny bit of honey and it is so relaxing.

There is no evidence of a feedback loop with melatonin. It is not just produced in the pineal gland, but also in the mitochondria. Our bodies produce less and less intracellular melatonin with age. Mitochondria dysfunction can also affect intracellular melatonin levels. I encourage everyone to research high dose melatonin protocols. It's completely changed my life. I feel 20 years younger.

What really helped me is one word DISCIPLINE. yes discipline of sleeping before 12 o clock. I aim to sleep somewhere along the lines of 9-11 o clock. 9 o clock is better. And every 6 o clock in the morning i take a walk. At 7am i do sunbath for 15minutes and let some light into my eyes. I also ate breakfast because the research says it helps rewind body clock. And i also take magnesium 200gram morning and 200gr evening to help sleep. I also eat 3-5hours before bed. The most important thing is consistency and discipline

Retiring and getting older and lack of sleep just go together. Pay attention to your body and what it will tolerate to get ‘some’ sleep. As we age it’s only natural not to sleep like we did when we were younger so you might want to give up that idea. Sleep when you can and use only natural things to get sleep.

These are very informative videos. I just listened to the one on magnesium deficiency and which forms are used for deferent purposes which I recommend watching. A number of years ago I suffered from restless leg syndrome which made it impossible to sleep. I would experience convulsive rhythmic nerve impulses from the back of my legs through my spine to my head. I began taking a magnesium glycinate supplement and have not experienced these events since. I believe this is related to the depolarizing role that magnesium has in muscle contraction.

Recently I have found that taking magnesium before bed causes heart palpitations, hypnic jerks and insomnia. I took magnesium Calm powder for years and I slept great but now I can’t. I read that taking magnesium if you don’t need it could possibly cause an imbalance in zinc, potassium and calcium. Some nights I can’t fall asleep at all. Insomnia is torturous.

I appreciate the content, but struggle with the practicality of these guidelines. I get the research, but they are data without context of the demands of modern day life. How do we as believers have impact if we put in 75% of the effort compared to other high impact peoples?

How to fix low am cortisol due to 2 rounds of covid, please?
My ACTH stim test was normal, a 24H urine cortisol was normal.. so my doctor said my cortisol curve is probably skewed or reversed...

If you have high nighttime cortisol, PS (phosphatidylserine) will lower it. Works for me

Two issues for this 77 year old: tiny bladder, so some nights is wake up several times to pee. So ends deep sleep after the first awakening.
Number 2 is that if I'm in afib, the best I can hope for I'd mostly light sleep since my stress reaction is not in parasympathetic restful state.
I'm probably going to bed way later than I should since I'm married to a vampire who stays up until 3:30 am, and doesn't come downstairs until 1 pm or later. Frustrating. Last night, we watched a movie and I got to bed just before midnight. Ugh.

Yap! Yap! Yap! Everyone is an expert on sleep. All the psycho mombo jombo has not lead to better sleep for Americans. People in other parts of the world talk less about sleep and get far better sleep.
