  • Two of India's top most military minds Lt General Raj Shukla and Major General BS Dhanoa argue from different sides of the trenches on #Agnipath the contentious new military recruitment scheme that limits the tenure of Jawans, Sailors and Airmen to 4 years ( except for 25% who will be renlisted)

It's urban middle class romanticism to link army job with deshbhakti. But it's bread and butter job for lakhs of youth in Bihar and UP

    Imagine:
youngsters age 21 after having served in the army for 4 years, leave the army by choice and use the amount provided to get admission ( NEET ) in an engineering college ( Lets assume a tier 2 private college ).
With the confidence that he gained in the army, he would be an utterly confident and fit young man, sitting in the placement drives of leading IT companies with his chest pumped up with pride and honor.
Provided that he studied normally without backlogs, he will be recruited. at around 4-6 LPAs which then within the next 3-4 years go to around 20 LPA.
( I am an IT guy from a normal average BE college with 5 years of experience now, so I know my numbers ).
I have seen young men with no english background from rural areas of UP and Bihar gradually picking up C/ Java/ Python in engineering colleges and then going ahead to achieve amazing things in life in cities like Bangalore, Pune etc.
Lets look at the bright side, this scheme has the potential to provide bright young fit men to the nation, who can go ahead to do diverse things in their life with confidence.
Why bogging everything down with negativity etc.
No one is going to feel rejected after 4 years,
IMHO 10-15% will opt out themselves. remaining 85 will compete for the 25% Full enlistment which will provide an exceptional fit and capable pool of young soldiers who can go ahead to become young JCOs and May be using the ACC entry to become officers.
Remaining 60 % can follow other career aspirations.
No one really is thinking about a possibility of a lot of youngsters from well to do families opting to join the army as young soldiers just to experience a thrill and kick of being a soldier for 4 years before going ahead to start giving a hand to their fathers Business or engineering or May be give IELTS to study abroad.
Why are we stuck at a contention that this is the only means of lively hood available for the lower middle class youth.

the aim of the military is not to train people for getting jobs after service
at present it takes 18 to 24 months to train a soldier to serve in units
you are cutting it to 1/3rd
and putting someone into a unit for 3 and a half years with the mindset of preparing for life in the civil streets
also, what alliegance do you have for your college, or company you are working for?
in the military you fight for your commarades and unit
it takes years to build that alliegance
but then such arguments is why it's irritating to read comments or reply to them on social media

But that is the point kshitij.......there is already a cut throat race of normal civilian individual to get into colleges and get a job.....for these guys army is not just a job......it's something they have been dreaming about......why force them to do something else when they have made themselves into excellent soldiers

I am dying laughing imagining the NEET/JEE types running a mile in under 5 mins, doing 10 chin ups and pushups. Those bookworms just cram formulas most dont even have the foggiest clue about life other than what their tutors forced down their necks. They stare at books for enough hours to get a PhD at 18 and need open heart surgery at 35.
Those teletubbies are waddling sacks of potatoes with glasses as thick as windscreens.
At the average Army recruitment the acceptance rates is barely in single digit percentage points at best at times barely 1% after the the written, physical and medical stages-to throw that away and reinvent the wheel every 4 years will deprive the military of seasoned and skilled soldiers whose training costs are considerable.

Aspirants must understand change is part of life. You have an entire life ahead, learn to adapt, learn to skill yourself up. Apply, prove yourself, earn yourself a spot in the 25%.
This entire meri zindagi barbad hua is just signs of lack of discipline, motivation and just laziness.

Adapt and skill up? Have you any idea of the number of PhD and MTechs applying for peons jobs? Candidates with MA's are applying for sweeping stalls of mules. Lets set a 25% pass rate for politicians and IAS babus else they will be axed policy. A company that has 75% workforce turnover is a JOKE!
Only about 1% of the applicants in a recruitment can make it into selection to begin with.

This Shukla guy does not realize that US and Chinese army always fight alongside their airforces and navy which are multiple times IAF and Indian Navy. Indian army is trained and may be required to fight alone since IAF does not have the squadron strength for 2 front war and you need regimental cohesion and very high level training in that scenario . Agniveers will collapse regimental cohesion as they will be only focussed on earning a commission and 6 month training will make them mere rookies. This step is a total disaster for armed forces.

And that's too in front of a venomous snake like her (you know the reason why). You are degrading your standard and integrity this way by yourself. Rest you people are more qualified, educated and respect yourself to understand your own importance.
