They do! Only issue with using Carb Cleaner, it is a good paint stripper too.. WD40 does okay at working free dirt, oil, and grime. I was very impressed with how well "Simply Clean" in the ultrasonic worked.
I couldn't believe it. The joys of Canadian prices for small engine parts is insane! I see the prices in the USA and think... "Wouldn't that be nice if they were of a similar price here..."
Thanks Aron! I thought, why fight with the durned rope to try to stick it in the hole, just melt them together, makes life so much easier! Will look forward to seeing you doing the same :) Be neat to see someone else doing the same silliness haha!
Looks like the dirty air filter caused the plug to foul. Had that not been the issue, a peek at the valves is next. Worn seats can cause hard starting. In the end, that little engine sounds healthy!!
In the 100s of Classic Briggs that I've worked on, I have NEVER seen that style filter. That was interesting! I was sitting here going "eh, just convert it to the foam style" and then later on that's what you did. I managed to snag the entire Briggs Filter setups from Lowes a couple years ago on Clearance for like $3 or so. I took home about 5 or 6 of them. Also, for the primers, I found using a socket to push down on that clip makes it super easy. I'd have to check what size it is I use, but I *think* it's an 11/16. It fits down perfectly on the classic primers and also the Quantum ones. I'd have to check if it works on Tecumseh, since I usually just swap the carbs out instead of fight with the linkages multiple times lol
Dang! That's wild. Here I am thinking this is just because I'm learning about this whole thing, and that filter is fairly common.. only to read a couple comments now that this is not a common thing for Briggs to do. Strange strange! You scored on those foam filters! That would have been a nice find Never thought of that for the primer . I know with Tecumseh it's just a 3/4 socket and a hammer 😂
@@Mike-anic Yeah, Lowe's the last couple years has put a lot of spare mower parts on clearance. I picked up some 21" and 22" blades for under $8 each - I nearly cleared them out. I generally buy spare parts overseas. It's a lawn mower, and the cost of OEM parts makes most repairs not cost effective. I stock up a couple times a year, since I don't have enough storage to do it all at once (I have parts in my shed, garage, home office, and in-lawns place).
I agree, I had an accident with the washer. I kind of tripped and broke off the intake hose bib, so... That's a problem... I'm not sure if it's repairable either
🙄🙄🙄🙄 Hope this is not your day job.
@@HEHE-dx9og thanks for the watch and comment! Appreciate the interaction!
is this your first poulan !
@@georgejaymes4756 Actually, ya, it is my first Poulan
I always clean all the parts because it just makes it easier and look better. Carb cleaner is a multi use tool 😊

That air filter surprised me, only seen one like it before 😮
I'm glad I am not the only one that was surprised. It completely threw me for a loop.. Literally! I almost got stuck in one haha!
Nice job, Mikeanic!!! "Janky" is going to be the new word in small engine repair 😂 I saw you abandoned the gloves for this job 😉
Hahahha ya, I use gloves more to protect my hands from myself more than anything 🤣
First time I’ve seen that air filter set up on one of those flatheads
Seems to be a few that haven't seen this filter on these Flathead engines.. Glad I'm sharing something new for others as well! :)
@@Mike-anic yeah I’m now gone onto old 2 stroke lawnmowers
I love those old 2-stroke Lawnboys! They're great little mowers and just eat everything you throw at them!
$30.00 for a filter???? That's insane. I'd do the same thing and change it out for foam one. Good video.

@@Mike-anic Well, console yourself with the fact that at least Canada isn't led by lunatics!!
Well done! That rip cord fix was pretty darn slick. I've always done it the hard way... which isn't much fun 😆 Thanks for teaching me something new! 🎉

I'm really glad it was just the air filter causing the problem, instead of something much more sinister.
Easy fixes are the best fixes!

Wait... how much in freedom units?! There's no text! OMG! I will never know how much oil to put in 😲

Arm entrapment is a serious issue…. I’ve been afflicted with it for over fifty years.
Wow, that's a long time! You've definitely got some stories to tell!
Why do you have to have the camera stuck on the lawn mower it's shakes too much it's a very annoying
Yeah, it was. I Decided until there's a proper shock absorber (gimble?) I'll be something that'll have to remain off... Sadly.
I think you tight spark plug much tighter then it should be
Oh? I'm sure you could feel how tight it was.. must be a new YT feature.
