    Please lay off that starter it is not designed to spin for 5-10 minutes. When you know the fuel line and pump are empty shoot some ether in the breather for the cylinders to run on until the engine pulls the gasoline through. Also those magnets should have been gapped. In the old days we placed a business card or double folded standard (school) paper between the rotor and the magneto to gap the parts, otherwise you can grind them against each other. I'm glad you found the issue.

    I had the same problem with my Husqvarna ZT. The mower would run for about 30 minutes and then die. Fortunately, I checked the spark and traced it back to one of the ignition coils. Replaced both and have not had an issue since.

Changed a 15 amp fuse, charged battery and cleaned cable ends and been using it for two years. Just added a grass collector system and just smile when riding it with my radio headphone on…..fortune favors the bold!

      I started hating those things as soon as the industry was forced to apply them on everything. They couldn't make one that functioned properly, and the only one who did apparently had the patent no one else could use. When the patent involves safety or decreases the use of fuel or energy consumption... they shouldn't be allowed to patent such things. Or these patents should be allowed to be used without issue simply because of how efficient and simple they are. Like Voit having the patent on how they make icecubes. The most obvious design principle and somehow they got a patent on it.... that ain't right. It's like putting a patent on "round" ... No one else can make a round wheel, or steering wheel. And a patent on pedal placement... no one else can put the gas pedal on the right... Obvious the problems that would cause.

    That mower is a boat anchor. It's been abused and left outside in the rain, the flywheel is rusty from rain or possibly a flood, and the entire mower was underwater. The mower deck was the first clue it was junk, it crashed on the chute side hard and the plastic spindle covers are missing which means some hack was working on it.

    i am 3 minutes in and sounds to me like the coil is breaking down. when it gets hot it quits..

  • @davez4172
    @davez4172 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I usually approach these kinds of problems a different way. I don't load up the parts cannon if the problem is easily repeatable. There are a number of diagnostic tests you could have performed after the engine was hot and wouldn't start. Spark, fuel and compression tests are pretty easy to do and the tools needed are not that expensive. But, as you said, you started with maintenance items you would have changed out anyway.
    Electrical components often will expand when hot and internal connections will open, causing failure. That spark tester would have come in handy on day one. You can also check the coils with a multimeter and test resistance. Whatever shop worked on it should have been able to find the problem but likely didn't want to let it run until it stopped. Time is money.
    Good work though, you weren't afraid to dig in and get it working. As others have said, set the coil gap with a business card and check the valve gap.

    We bought a 2022 timecutter just like this one brand new, about $4000 from Tractor Supply to use on small residential lawns. It's been a headache. The key wouldn't stay in the ignition, someone damaged it at the store and it wouldn't stay on except for when parked randomly. Dirt easily makes it's way into the electrical connectors and causes issues with everything, so those could use better protection or a thorough cleaning. The belt does not have an easy adjustment screw in case of wear, you better buy the exact one it came with and it won't last long. The tires suck, will not stop you unless on a flat surface. Oem blades are cheap and terrible, buy some Oregon blades. The pros, the my ride suspension is good, and the engine is great for the most part, just make sure to gap the new spark plugs. No complaints about the hydros, going on almost 400 hours and the unit has been kept covered outside on a trailer.

    I sell these. For the most part no major issues with the TORO engine. The thing i had to get used to is shutting this engine off full throttle. Always seemed wierd to me. Supposedly a Kawasaki clone but made in China. I agree with other comments. You should only hit that starter for 5-10 seconds. Starters are expensive. It has the my ride, thats an upgrade. But Timecutters are entry level residential, with regular maintenance they should go for 400-600 hours no problem. Its when those sealed maintenance free transmissions go out. Make sure you are killing the engine at full throttle like it says at the switch, cross your fingers and hope for 4 years. That would give you some value. And dont give up on TORO. Next time, consider a Titan.

    Something you did not do is check the gap between the flywheel and the coil. If the gap is too wide, you do not get spark, and if too narrow, you have the unstoppable force crashing into the immovable object. Another adjustment you did not check is the rocker arm clearance. If the clearance is too wide, the compression release function does not operate and if the gap is too narrow, the engine will shut down when it gets up to operating temperature.

    You need to watch youtube videos on the your issues. Classic symptom of a bad coil is it dies or bogs down after 30 minutes to an hour. My brother did the same thing as you. He replaced a bunch of parts. I watched some youtube videos and figured it out.

    On those Kawasaki engines, pull up the choke all the way then push it back down the instant the engine sounds like it is starting. Wait too long and it becomes hard to start. I keep mine up only a couple of seconds before pushing it back down.

    Checking the spark and fuel would have been the first thing to check. You could have easily removed a plug within seconds to determine spark issue and not fuel. 🤷‍♂️

    Do yourself a favor! Lift the seat and follow the power cables from battery power and grounds and the starter mounts. Get your brass brush out and clean the corrosion off of cable ends and remount them. Just hearing you killing battery off after charging it shows battery may be replaced but the power and ground cables need to be inspected and cleaned. Just a little white powder corrosion can cause plenty of electrical gremlins after the mower sits. It also prevents the battery from taking a charge once mower is running?

    Hey if you ever get stuck and you're able to pick up the front of the mower, turn it 90 degrees and you should be able to drive out. I'm a big dude so it's no problem for me, but I know some people won't be able to.
