Volkswagen T-Roc 2022 FL - Forget Golf (ENG) - Test Drive and Review

  • Volkswagen T-Roc debuted in 2017, and since then more than than 1 million units were sold. The Golf-based crossover comes in regular 5-door hatch versions "for the people", as well as the pricey, but funky T-Roc Cabriolet, and the performance oriented 310 hp T-Roc R. Is the face-lifted 2022 Volkswagen T-Roc better, than the Mk8 Golf?

    Great review as always. I like the improved interior but I don’t like the fiddly touch controls for the heaters and lights. I wish VW would use high quality knobs and switches instead. The TRoc exterior makes the golf look dated and is desperate need of an overhaul to make it look attractive even the GTI is looking basic. Looking forward to see what’s in next Fridays review. 👍🏼

    Will manufacturers ever learn to stop putting piano black finish in cars though? The only time it looks good is in a brochure - it's already scuffed when it's in a showroom and it's absolutely horrible to live with. Surely that much piano black in a car counts as torture?

    Looking to upgrade from mk7 golf 1.6tdi, I have found it hard to take to newer cars, digital dash etc. I want the same comfort and ease of use with higher seating position. But back seat space seems less in this. My teenagers have no issue with space behind me in mk7. Is 1ltr good, strong enough? Great review.

      Hold on to that Golf if you can :)
      And if you can't, I suppose the T-Roc is the next best thing. The 1.0 TSI is OKish around town and on B-roads, but it won't be as efficient on longer trips as that 1.6 TDI.

    Car is already compact so having a sloping back makes it worse. Volvo solved this by making the back square thus creating more storage in the boot.

  • @gregorymuliuk7188

    I think mk7 Golf (and Polo!) was the last piece of reliable engineering VW put together. But even this was already going foot-to-foot competition to much better value-for-money Focus, Astra and Ceed.
    Good looking SUV from exterior with a bigger practical boot... And you pay 40k for Dacia-esque plastics and no physical buttons. No offence VW-fans but It is all going wrong.

    I'm confused by the VW range - I thought that the T-ROC was a jacked-up Polo rather than a Golf brother? Hence why it has a shorter wheelbase and less interior space than the Golf? A bit of an own-goal with emissions-abatement (the sluggish take-off) if it's less economical than claimed. The pricing - I know prices and specifications are market-dependent, but i just laughed when you mentioned the base-model starting price as 21000EUR but that test model being 40000EUR. The Germans like to have their fun with us, eh?

  • @MrArchie800
    @MrArchie800 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've had most golf generations and a couple of T-Rocs. Of the T-Rocs I much preferred the little 1ltr 3 cylinder version, it felt surprisingly nippy compared to the 1.5 (which felt soooo slow - although economy was very good), also the smaller wheels on the 1.0 were quieter and gave a more comfy ride. In terms of the touch buttons, I hated them for the first couple of hours as I wasn't used to them, but after that found them absolutely problem at all. I can see why people spending only a couple of hours with the car don't like the touch buttons but really it's not that big a deal to live with. Thanks goodness they've done something about the cheap plastic above the dash on the facelift model - although there is still too much scratchy plastic in the cabin than I would like (and the same can be said for my new MK8 GTI, which I love otherwise.

If I were buying a car again today, I wish the Golf Sportsvan was still here.
