The 1.0 liter ABSOLUTELY CAN power a car that size, because it is less than 1.3 tons rather than almost 2 tons. The 1.0 liter pre-face model has a 0-60 time of less than 10 seconds, which is more than enough for a commuter SUV.
I've just bought a 2022 1.0 ltr life facelift model with 18k on the clock for my wife. It's a cracking great car & was not underpowered whatsoever with 2 up & 70 ltrs of holiday luggage in the boot. It replaced a 2014 1.2 Skoda Yeti Outdoor SEL.
I just handed back my company car back. It was a VW Golf with the 1 litre engine and i drove all over Scotland over 6 years racking up 77000 miles. It had more than enough power and it was smooth and economical. On a long run around 47mpg. I retired a few weeks ago and bought a one litre new shape Captur.Sad to report at 90 bhp it is pretty gutless but engine power aside it is a really nice car.
Thank you for clarifying the difference between the dry and wet clutch DSG variation. I have driven both before and the wet clutch DSG was superb to drive with. That and the 1.5 and 2.0 engines, I specifically drove the 2.0 and it's a dream with the oomph.
We have a 1.6 diesel 2017 Golf with the dry clutch DSG with 82k miles and its been super reliable so far. the gearbox is sealed for life and I asked a VW specialist and VW dealer and they told us not to service the dry clutch as the clutches are dry therefore there is no oil to be contaminated from clutch wear like the wet clutch DSG that needs servicing every 40k miles. Our dry clutch DSG isnt as smooth as the wet clutch DSG but its smooth enough honestly.
The video is common problems to look out for, you could search the same for any make and model and get similar results. Doesn't mean the car is scrap, just means you know a bad one from a good one like every other car.
A lot of reference to water ingress. VW/AUDI not solved this problem after so many years then. Passat B5.5 and Audi TT leaked like a sieve, through the doors, beneath the battery and ruined the ECU in my Passat which is located in front foot well. Fixed them all myself and got shot of it. Moved over to Mazda 6 estate, totally reliable and loving it. 35 years of VW/AUDI, and won't be going back.
We have a 2022 1.0 3 cylinder T-Cross and find the car very nippy, reliable and averages around 45 - 50 mpg, the only thing we dont like is the kangarooing in 1st and 2nd gear, maybe a softwear issue?? other than that its a great driving car and have no complaints.

Hi Clan, contemplating buying a new 2.0 litre diesel but would love to know if this will have a wet or dry clutch and will it have a timing belt or chain ? Are you able to advise ?
I have a September 2020 T-Roc R Line 2.0 diesel DSG FWD. Could you confirm if it has a dry or wet clutch and whether it would be a timing chain or belt. Also I have a problem with the brakes frequently making a groaning noise when lightly braking and steering sharp right (such as making a 3 point turn), then pulling away afterwards. The sound seems to come from the rear brakes. The brake pads were changed due to the notorious "mooing" problem but that was around 2 years ago. Are you aware of any T-Roc issues with brake/steering noise ?
