      Can I also do this to a thick, non stretchable denim pants ? I got a pair of pants with an excess fabric on the crotch area and it forms a very big cameltoe. :(

    Another approach is to unstitch the seam and offset the pant front the “pinch amount ( 1 inch or so) and reset on the original seam line. This method reduces the front crotch fabrics and leaves the back seat fit the same.

      Hey, can you explain a little more

      I agree with you.

    • @wildtame3823
      @wildtame3823 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Yes, also you can use the excess fabric to "gusset" in more curve in the front pieces to make the fit more natural.

    • @yolandaporter3031
      @yolandaporter3031 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Definitely. This method will work well with fabrics that have give or stretch but for fabrics with no stretch, not so much. This method takes fabric away from areas where you may not have needed it or wanted it removed like the butt and thighs.

    • @D.C.22
      @D.C.22 2 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      I figured someone else would point this out. Because what she has technically done is also shortened her back crotch which you can see they fit way tighter now in the butt. Its much better to open that crotch seam and shift the new front seam to the original back seam. Same way in reverse if that back is too full or if you want a "booty" fit. Ice skaters often have the back pant crotches tightened in that way to accentuate those glutes!

    I’m a sewist, and although many pair of my pants have this “bulge” in front, I never knew how to adjust. Many thanks! This blending down the pant leg will make the leg tighter, right?

    I am a trained tailor this is the only alteration we never covered. In my 23 years this week was the first time I had someone that needed this alteration. So glad I found this video, this is what I thought needed to be done and glad you had this so I knew for sure I was thinking correctly. Would have been bad to do the alteration wrong and ruin 6 pairs of pants. Thank you.

      You need to adjust the top of your pattern at the waist if you are having to roll it up. It is uncomfortable.
      Your pattern should have markings on it to show you where to adjust for a better fit next time you make a new pair of pants or shorts.

      Great Q - I would check to see how much room you have from below the fly to the seam. That's the space you can work with the take out. I would pin and baste it in a couple of different amounts to see what looks and fits best.

    Your derrière needs all the crotch space. It’s only the front that is short. Remove the stitches in the crotch inseams a little past your marks. Then resew along the line of your marks on your front, matched to the existing inseam seam line of the back.

      Agreed. I've done professional alterations for decades. Crotch ups should be done only to the area that needs it. You can use the excess fabric to create a gusset inserted to the center front seam to recreate the curve that is removed in this process.
