I have a very small waist so I struggle to get jeans that fit without being too tight on the thighs and bum. I buy them just a little big and sew seams inside the pockets up into the waistband. Then use the belt loops to hide the seam on the waistband. It works really well and you can barely see any stitching! Obviously of they are several sizes too big that won't work though
This is a big problem for me too. According to most size charts, my waist measurement is a size 8 but my hip measurements would fit a size 12. I used to buy a size 10 and pray.
Hi Sera! I'm a fashion major and yes, clothing stiching is sort of like crochet , you can take in and make darts/seams that sort of look like it was made that way, and it doesn't look like a mistake or like you didn't buy it that way. It's because nowadays jeans are stitched in all kinds of ways. And showing others how to make jeans fit when you can't afford these ridiculous prices in department stores and other places make this a win-win situation! Kudos to you in helping people fit into clothing they find in thrift or sale stores. Love your videos BTW!
You were not kidding when you said this is the best method!!! Thank you so much for this! I just altered a pair of jeans and this will be my go-to method
I definitely found your channel from that video when I was looking up how to resize jeans many years ago. Never got the courage to actually do the resize but I've watched every video you've made since then and I did finally buy a sewing machine and now I will resize my jeans if I ever lose the weight I've gained because 2020 quarantine ^_^
Thank you so much for showing this!!! I am not happy with the hips of my jeans and I was looking for an expensive jeans hoping that will fit me better. Now I am going to try your method to fix my jeans!!! Thank you!!!
I´m really glad to find your video, because i just pinned my dungarees on and was curious if anyone had already done it using this method... and you're the only one 🥰 thank you
I really like the seam going down the front and back of the legs, it elongates the legs and makes you look taller. Also, it reminds me of the Chemendofers (spelling?) I wore in high school, they were all the rage back then. ❤
YESSSS they look amazing!! Loved this vid, super inspiring and looks like it’ll be really easy to follow. Also your hair/makeup/outfit combo in the last clip is heaven 😍 Still remember you making that top! I’m obsessed.
Just sat down and watched this again over breakfast and coffee ~ absolutely LOVE watching denim alteration videos, and yours are so bomb Sera!!! 💣 I'm looking forward to trying out several methods to find what works best for me and my body, both to resize thrifted finds, and to resize my existing denim that no longer fits NICELY due to a significant unintentional and unexpected weight loss. Thank you for contributing to motivate me Sera!!! Next stop, denim that is FIRE!!! 🔥🔥🔥 😊❤👍
Thanks so much for sharing your ideas and you excellent work, that was one of my big issues with so many jeans and never thought on this in the middle of the legs .....thanks again for an amazing tip and many Blessings to you from New Jersey ❤
Loved this!! I definitely used the tutorial from your black jeans to help me downsize a pair of jeans that gapped too much around the waist and thighs!! Thank you for this video!! 💖 Ok...I would LOVE to see a video on how to UPSIZE skinny jeans/too tight jeans to fit more relaxed, YET be a fashion statement as well? Bc I know that there will be paneling...but done in a way where it looks like the paneling is intentional?((like, I want to quilt some fabric, to use as the side panels...without the batting, of course)) That'd be great! Bc I've been over skinny jeans for the past 5 years...but don't want to throw them all away...😓
Bullock.....check out the "downtown tailoring" channel. She has a video that sounds exactly like what you are asking about....think it's called something like "how to make your jeans bigger." She added 4 inches.
I really appreciate this! I lost a lot of weight this year but tbh ive been so sure that the second i start downsizing these pants ill gain it back 😅 this took a lot of pressure off though since it would really suck for me to gain weight again right after a long, confusing, and frustrating process. Thank you so much!!!
You can always keep the extra fabric instead of cutting it off, so if you do gain the weight back, you can let out the seam aka cut the dart you made from this video. Then you’ll always have the pants regardless!
Do you have a method to stop that ripple seam effect on dress pants ? is there any solution your creative brain can come up with? The struggle for smoothness is real!! Also thanks for your hard work ❤️😊
Is there a way to do this but on the sides of the jeans so I won’t have lines going down the front/back? Awesome video tho definitely going to try this!
THANK YOU soooooo much Sera!!! I LOVE all of your previous denim alteration videos... your altered jeans look SOOOOOO good on you Sera!!! This updated video couldn't have come along at a better time... I have been in need of inspiration to do some alterations to the oversized Levi's gems that I've thrifted previously. In addition to that... I've recently had an occurrence of a significant weight loss (unintentional) and now NONE of my jeans fit me... Future video ideas... ANYTHING DENIM is an automatic view and love from me! Two ideas/two videos specifically that I would LOOOOOOOVE to see done by YOU would be an attempt to recreate a pair of reconstructed jeans in the style of the EB Denim Jeans, and the other would be to do the same, but in the style of the Vetements Jeans.... I would DIE if you posted either or both of those!!! Fawn 😊❤👍
At first I was not sure if I would like the seams down the front and back, but now I'm thinking this would be a great design feature for splits at the front and back. I would topstitch that seam with a double needle and topstitching thread and I think it would be super cute for showing off your shoes or heels and lengthening the leg. Thanks for the vid!
I'm definitely going to try this method. I have kind of a pile of Jean's that I need to take in. Love to see more thrift flips or really anything love your videos.
This method is SOLID, it allows for extreme adjustments as it literally does Not suffer from the limitations' of OTHER methods. i've used it on dress shirts to EAT into the back of the collar and NOBODY everrrrr thinks that my shirt collar was severely shortened becuz the story/secret is ALWAYS hidden at the BACK of my neck, i literally cut the collar and just put a top stitch to mend the remaining two halves back together, HUGE adjustment with visible footprints, but still Not detectable to the common eye :) :)
Did she eventually sew all the way down the front! Or did she just stop at the knee? Stopping at the knee, mine looks awkward. ...thinking I will see all the way down the leg...
I have an amazing pair of ultra bellbottoms I got from a thrift store, but the waist and crotch are horrendous. They are paneled so already have a front and back seam. I’m going to try this!!!
Brilliant!!! ❤ I just bought a pair of 501s in the men’s section at the thrift shop. Everything fits because I have very big legs. The only problem is under my butt. It looks baggy I don’t really have any hips. Any suggestions?
Thank you very much for this very good video 👍 I was getting tired of always losing my jeans 😅 No but seriously every time I bend over my jeans go down and you see my underwear 😑 (Plus comments from my friends when they notice 😖😓) And I'm not even talking about the fact that I have to spend my time pulling my jeans up if I don't want them to slip on my knees 😤 (even if it happened to me before, the shame of my life 😭) But fortunately all this is over thanks to your video, thank you again 😁
Hi ❤video,. Do you have suggestion on how to eliminate diagonal draglines on the back of the jeans below hip, inseam to outseam. I searched everywhere I couldn't find instructions. Thanks
turned out amazing! Will something similar work on polyester pants? I got some office pants on sale but the size is 2 sizes too big and they are literally sliding off of me lol. The store is closing so I can't exchange them. I really thought I got my size right
Not Sera obviously, but I think it should work. Although alternatively you might consider just taking off the sides. The issue with jeans is that you usually don't want to disturb the side seams because you'd lose the rivets and wear signs on the seam, which shouldn't be an issue on work pants.
Loved the technique last time and loved it again this time... I saved this so I can do it because I have always wanted to buy thrift store jeans but never can find my size
These huge yellow letters are a great hinderance....l did nt see those steps that u were doing...Advice please reduce those letters...Your voice is loud and clear .. Keep on doing informative video.❤
Haven't used my sewing machine since the 1980s and by now I'm afraid it will catch fire if I turn it on cuz I don't know where to oil it or anything. I want to do this to 4 pairs of jeans though rather than buy them all just one size smaller. I've gotta ask what the noises in the background are sound like a kid or a dog yapping and a duck quacking? So obnoxious that I gave up and turned the sound off and read the closed captioning instead. Anyway I fear this is too difficult for me.
I this case I just throw it in the recycle container and get a new 20 bucks second hand that does fit. Don't know what to think about those hefty seams.... They upset me I guess.
I have a very small waist so I struggle to get jeans that fit without being too tight on the thighs and bum. I buy them just a little big and sew seams inside the pockets up into the waistband. Do you first remove pockets or not?
Same problem I literally don’t have proper jeans size i feel like😞 i tried to get it sewn but they say jeans can’t be
No no
Look like
I'm a see if lol l lol QA

What if you do it on the side instead of in the middle of the pant leg ? I wanna try this but I don’t want that line in the middle of my jeans.
I tried on both sides, but it made the waist smaller but still has v shape problem!! Even I don't want that darts on front side
yup looks bad loool
I needed this. I’ve lost weight and would rather alter my pants than go buy more. Thank You!

Thank you!!!
thank you so much!! I'm gonna do this on all my jeans so they finally fit at the waist! short and sweet and so easy to follow, great job as always xx
Awesome woman! This is the video I was looking for..thank you.
I´m really glad to find your video, because i just pinned my dungarees on and was curious if anyone had already done it using this method... and you're the only one 🥰 thank you
THANK YOU so much for this video. I knew one day that my collection of thrifted jeans will amount to something. I love this method! You're a genius.
Excellent tutorial. I will be using this method of all the ones I've watched on youtube. You're also really cute
I really like the seam going down the front and back of the legs, it elongates the legs and makes you look taller. Also, it reminds me of the Chemendofers (spelling?) I wore in high school, they were all the rage back then. ❤
This was sewwwwwww helpful, thank you! No more swimming in my jeans lol
This is one of the best video on downsizing jeans. Thanks
YESSSS they look amazing!! Loved this vid, super inspiring and looks like it’ll be really easy to follow. Also your hair/makeup/outfit combo in the last clip is heaven 😍 Still remember you making that top! I’m obsessed.
I’ve watched so many different tutorials and this one makes the most sense - thank you!!
I'm so glad!

Your tutorial was VERY helpful!
A completely different perspective!
such a good method 👍🏼 so glad you recreated the original video xx

Those look soooo good!!!!
Can you make another version of this for ripped jeans where you can’t make a seam down the front? This was super helpful though thank you!
This is exactly how my pants fit rn!! I'm gonna do this .-.
Is there a way to do this but on the sides of the jeans so I won’t have lines going down the front/back? Awesome video tho definitely going to try this!

Omg this helped me sooooo much thank you 😊
Wow you made your method really easy for us all and i am definitely gonna try that.
For the back seams did you take it all the way straight down?
Lots of sewing patterns have center front seams. They fit well now and are flattering.
You are a life saver 💜
ok this is GENIUS!! i have darted my pants down in the back before but always still have baggy crotch probs...definitely trying down the front now!!
I'm definitely going to try this method. I have kind of a pile of Jean's that I need to take in. Love to see more thrift flips or really anything love your videos.

Yessssss can’t wait. This is what I NEED
you're very good!
Thank you, I'll try your method, hope I can pull it off as good as you did!
you got this!!
Thank you for sharing this method in a more detailed video!!
You definitely fit nice in those black jeans
Muchísimas Gracias Por Compartir. Me Pareció Interesante Como Le Metiste. Que Sigas Recibiendo Bendiciones.😃💟
Re-watching this and LOVE!!! 😍
I needed this video!! TYSM
Your output is so great! Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful work and effort! 🌸

Super thanx! 💗😘
Thanks for this video
Thanks to your amazing video I made my oversized pants into the most beautiful pants ever today , thank you soooo much!😍🤌🤌🤌
is this a stretch fabric?
And do you have a video where you take in the seams from the sides?
Awesome 👏🏻
I have an amazing pair of ultra bellbottoms I got from a thrift store, but the waist and crotch are horrendous. They are paneled so already have a front and back seam. I’m going to try this!!!

I was getting tired of always losing my jeans 😅
No but seriously every time I bend over my jeans go down and you see my underwear 😑 (Plus comments from my friends when they notice 😖😓) And I'm not even talking about the fact that I have to spend my time pulling my jeans up if I don't want them to slip on my knees 😤 (even if it happened to me before, the shame of my life 😭)

Well done!!
These look fab ☆ do you know how you would reconstruct dungarees with bad fitting bottoms? Xx
100% trying this for a pair of thrifted jeans that I want to turn into shorts for summer
Hi ❤video,. Do you have suggestion on how to eliminate diagonal draglines on the back of the jeans below hip, inseam to outseam. I searched everywhere I couldn't find instructions. Thanks
SO helpful!!! i needed this!
I know it's beside the point of the video, but she is sewwww beautiful!
This is helpful
Hey there! What pressure foot did you use? I'm having trouble with the thicker parts of the denim.
I see a lot of jump suits that are trending but I don’t like the baggy pants of them! Do happen to have a video on something like that
Try seaming them on the side maybe that way you won’t get stitching lines ??
This is very difficult to do because of the way the pockets are constructed in jeans. And you would lose the rivets as well
You got a good fit. But for myself, I don't like the front seams.
Great length!
Where did you get those white sneakers you were wearing in the footage of the finished jeans? Loved them!
I’m pretty sure those are platform keds!! I know they’re on Amazon but prolly a bunch of places have them :)
You da bess.
I think the lines looks trendy!
Bought some jeans from Depop and they ended up being way too big, since I can’t return them there’s no harm in trying to alter them. Hope this works!
turned out amazing! Will something similar work on polyester pants? I got some office pants on sale but the size is 2 sizes too big and they are literally sliding off of me lol. The store is closing so I can't exchange them. I really thought I got my size right

Keep on doing informative video.❤
I want to take my jeans "out" lol can u help? ❤ also have crotch issues that give me the wedgy in the front lol thanks girl❤
Though I appreciate why you might do it this way, my preference is to NOT have the seam on the front or back. Thanks for this video
is there a way to do this by hand
same measure and pin method- and sew by hand!
Does anyone know if "boiling" your pants can also get them to shrink???
Well the seams will definitely give a long leg look.
Haven't used my sewing machine since the 1980s and by now I'm afraid it will catch fire if I turn it on cuz I don't know where to oil it or anything. I want to do this to 4 pairs of jeans though rather than buy them all just one size smaller.

❤
Do you have video on "HOW TO CONVERT A LADIES HIGH RISE JEAN TO A LOW RISE.JEAN." Thank you
Nice but I don’t like how the darts look
😍😍😍
My only issue with this method, besides the visible seams, is the ruined pockets. Pockets already suck on women’s pants lol
What if the waist fits correctly but you still get that weird crotch bunching?
Cool way of doing it, but I don't like that seam being the middle.
I this case I just throw it in the recycle container and get a new 20 bucks second hand that does fit. Don't know what to think about those hefty seams.... They upset me I guess.
I don’t like the seam. There has to be a way to do this along the original seam
It's Killing Me that you made the pockets smaller!! Why didn't you keep them the same and just pin them out of the way?
