I am a home sewer, and you have transformed my pants patterns! I was trying to work out Pythagoras and trigonometry to work out how to take an inch and a half out of the back of my pants, and you aced it in 9 mins!! Thank you :-)
I come from a family of tailors and garment industry professionals----so I've been sewing since I can remember! Proper pants fitting is just not something men are taught to be cognizant of anymore. And to a trained eye a bad-fit looks BAAAAD! Great work: both the video and the tailoring! (And BTW, the current trend to over-tailor is not a good one!)
I used to work in a sewing shop nearly12 years ago. So thankful for your videos. They help me to remember the things I used to do. Lately my sewing has just been hems n zippers. Thanks❤
Highly impressed with your first video I have watched, about taking in the inseam/crotch area. I am a 57 year old gal, been sewing since I was 5 years old. Great someone still wants to sew, and you being a guy, and you are so young, I find it great that YOU SEW! I am subscribing! You really know your stuff! Crossing barriers is bold, in a good way. Like I think male nurses are something I admire, as I worked all my career in nursing. Keep on going!
I watched this video to alter a pair of women's booty shorts. I was going to take in the wrong seam. I am so glad I watched your video. I was going to have to redo a flat felled seam. Thanks to you I don't have to mess with it. This is a fantastic video for men to learn to do their own alterations. It is so awesome that you are making videos for men. Kudos to you.
This was very informative. I got the same end results, but I struggled with making it happen. Thanks to this video, I can work smarter and not harder....THANK YOU!!
Wow! I'm happy I came across your channel to watch your videos. Actually, I'm a beginner sewer. And thank you for the techniques you thought. Very informative. Kudos!
Done one pair as instructed here was a huge struggle first time as usual with stuff but it's come out fine. Said make sure when sewing up the crutch seam that the top ends line up. But they don't because the back panel top is curved up. Had me flummoxed but it simply means more seam allowance on one side of the top ends of the vertical panels. I did not know to assess how much to take in so did it by calculation. From paper pattern adjustment charts for every two inches off waist is one and a quarter off thigh circumference. Looks like a balanced fullness front and back once done. Next time do it in a.fraction of the time. Really useful thing to learn on clothes adjustment. Thank you!
The whole time I was wondering why you marked the pants on the outside and then it finally clicked when you were getting it ready to be sewed. AMAZING! ☆ω☆
Exactly the video I needed for the trouser pattern I am working on - thank you! Especially appreciate that your "improved fit" still shows some slack in the back, because I was fretting the pooling I was seeing anove my calves was wrong!
Hey man, I appreciate these videos and I just love knowing how to do things. I would request, though, when posting the videos to normalize the volume so the viewer (me) doesn't have to keep turning the volume up and down. Thanks again for the awesome tips!
Between you and Stylish D I am learning ALOT from you both, keep it up young sir I'm enjoying this I might even become a tailor myself lol it feels like I can
@@AspiringGent thank you very much I really appreciate that, I'm working on a few alterations right now and it's a little tricky on sole garments so its very nice to have second opinions, again I'm very happy for the extended help!
Thanks for this. I had two vintage suits from a thrift shop and after tapering the legs and slimming the waist found the rear was still too roomy on both. So I did this alteration on both pairs of trousers. I also raised the crotch on both of them using your other video. One pair of trousers didn't end up tight enough so I undid the waist, crotch and inseams, and redid it all. Then I introduced a pucker on one leg, so undid that and resewed that seam and now they look fine. The suits have no labels and appear to have been made by a tailor. The inside leg seams still had bits of white basting stitch. They have a button fly pleats and a high waist. They weren't flared but the leg was very wide and straight. Yeah I'm not too confident so I measure, pin, try on, then sew. I thought this crotch alteration was quite a difficult one to do. Especially as my trousers had quite a bulky fabric. Tapering legs I find pretty easy to do. The waist slimming wasn't too difficult either. Now I need to slim the two suit jackets. Preparing myself mentally for that one.
This is Brilliant. Thank you. So well explained! I'm looking for the alteration to eliminate excess drooping folds of fabric at the front crotch sides in an upside-down V shape. Unflattering! I'm guessing this video alteration is part of it and the rest is scooping out the crotch curve. But how much? How to gauge the measure of it? Do you know the problem I am referring to? Thanks again for your videos. Top Notch!
This was really helpful! I sew dresses not men’s dress pants and need to learn how to take in my husbands pants. First pair I did worked out great! Very clear directions! Now question, a second pair I am going to start has a triangular crotch gusset. Where are on the crotch do I measure? From the front of the crotch gusset or the back crotch gusset? Thanks!
Thank You so much for taking the time to make this video. My son is attending his sisters wedding and needed a suit. He is 6'4" and 260 lbs....I found a suit that the jacket is perfect but not the pants but I think I got this (because of you).
I love your videos. You speak clearly and are easy to follow. Could you make a video on how to slim down pants if you loose weight using another pair of pants that fit well already?
I’m so excited to try this on my husband’s suit pants. I’m also tacking the pocket shuts so he stops putting his hands in his pocket. His suit pants look soooo baggy right now.
Would you consider a video on doing the opposite, lengthening the rise of a pair of pants? I picked up a beautiful suit that unfortunately is so low rise it's unwearable. My current tailor said they couldnt do that so id rather try it myself than have to give up my suit
You’re best best it follow my taking in a crotch video and do it the opposite and let it out. This will open the “bucket” of the trouser abs giving you a higher rise.
So you are only reducing the back panel at the inside seam? Not the front. Vital to get that right or the crease at the front goes wrong yes? I bought two pairs of very nice Boss wool trousers in their sale 15 years ago. Trouble was I then stopped working in offices and eating rubbish and lost four stone. I'm OK on waist reduction but the bag under the seat is the problem I did not understand. ONLY REDUCE back panel.
As long as it doesn’t add a weird shape to the garment I like to leave a much material as I can in case they need to be refit later. I have a lot of repeat customers.
Can we get a birds eye view ? Or a color template of what parts you’re pulling in crotch area? The camera angle along with the color of the pants made it difficult for me to see where to pull the stitches from
I am making a size 32 pants to 30s. Everything but the crotch seem done. I am taking a 1.5 in out of the crotch seem. But I cannot get the crotch seems to line up. I have way to much material on the front side of my pants. Any tips??
I'm watching your videos because I've tried four different alterations tailors and they've all messed up one way or another. As they say, if you want it done right, do it yourself. ;-)
Hey, do you have a solution for puckering pockets? My pants fit me really well except that all of my pants have puckering pockets that ruin the whole look.
what if the pants have a extra wide piece in the crouch? my nephew after loosing so much weight, wants me to take in the crouch, but they have this added part for wider crouch?
I watched your video on taking in the crotch. The back area had a lot of excess fabric which i tried to eliminate I don't know what happened but something went WRONG!!! My front and back seams don't align. What can i do to fix this. 😢😢
I was trying to do this and, while I was pinning I notice the pockets were to close. (Im altering a 34w to become a 30w) what should I do to make te pockets less noticeable?
Hi everyone. Please I need an explanation on how to take in waist without affecting the back pocket because the pocket shifts towards the butt thus making you side right on top of the pockets instead of the back pockets to be by the side butt.
Hi sir I've just subcribed and I've learned new things from this tutorial. And i thank you so much for this.❤❤❤❤❤ Can you make one for taking in the front crotch( when the front crotch is too long) It's very helpful how you teach. And the clear detail you give about everything.
Ok, so every and I mean every tailor has no clue as to what to do about this. Here is why I say this. I have a very short rise, 10.5 inches to be exact. My total U shaped crotch is about 26.5 or 27 inches with the front rise 10.5 inches exactly. Now this means I can't buy off the shelf pants. If I do then I have to have the rise lessened. However most tailors say oh it's to much work and will cost you a lot as I have to remove the waist band, zippers and pockets to remove the 2.5 inches or less to get you to 10.5 inch rise. The results usually end up with rear pockets that are right next to each other and front with tons of wrinkles and bunching. What is a guy to do? I am going to have some pants tailor made but fabric is always an issue. Most tailor shops only have standard fabrics.
I'm a TV executive, and I'm so lucky that my mom taught me how to use her sewing machine when I was a kid. In my spare time, I really enjoy sewing and cutting and making my pants and shirts fit like a million bucks. Even my wife loves when I give her pants and skirts that perfect fit.
As someone with years of sewing experience, modern as well as historical clothing I just have to comment. Those trousers looked better before you altered them. They cut too much between your buttocks and the upper thigh area was still baggy. Really, there was not enough difference to warrant all that work anyway.
Now that's the way to start a video. 😄👍

Can you make a tutorial on how to lengthen rise on dress pants
