My '73 is in excellent condition with 10K miles. When oil is filled to the original dipstick full line my bike always drips oil from both breather tubes. The same amount from each tube. I don't have to ride it hard for it to do this. Should I lower the level to the middle mark on my dipstick?

when you drain it, put 2000cc back in not 2500cc and note where the oil level is on the dipstick for future reference

I read in a motorcycle magazine in the seventies that they reduce the amount of oil because of leaking. Oil is cheap Motors aren't I would rather have more oil than less.

When you get too much oil, you end up with oil frothed up and loading up the rings. It will begin burning. The XS has plenty of capacity when in good shape and is very reliable.
