Just picked up an 1980 xs650 special for free off of marketplace. Sat in buddys shed for 7 years. Didnt come with a key, going to order one in. 41000km, has compression when i kick her over. Going change out the wires/plugs, carb clean, drain the tank out and see if she fires up! Watched your rebuild series, plan on following your lead and doing a rebuild on the bike aswell. Good work, cheers man 🍻🍻🍻
Watching you ride, listening, I think you've got the jetting pretty much where it needs to be, the bike sounds good rolling down the road and sitting waiting. I'd give a lot to have one or two of my old XS's still. Very nice looking, sounding bike!
Get the ear-plugs Cliff ! Those mufflers sound great , but I do prefer louder than quieter . I like to feel the torque and hear the sound , it's all 'one' experience for me .
How are you keeping Cliff? hope you've still got at least one XS650 left in your stable. Did you ever get your silencers sorted ? Its one of the most urgent jobs for my 79 Special this Summer. If you think your bike is noisy you'd hate mine .... Your bikes always sound so smooth and sorted .....mine sounds like a wild hooligan in comparison. BRs Johnny
Why are you running your petcock in the PRIME position? I thought that was a big no no? Are those the stock vacuum petcocks? Those rear shocks look brand new, did you replace them? We need a set for our 1980 Special.
Hi straight down is in the On position using those petcocks, they are the vacuum ones and not sure if they are original or not, the shocks I got off eBay quite cheap 325mm hole centers I think - www.ebay.co.uk/itm/274375837504

To be honest it is lacking a little power from zero to 1/4 throttle so adding the baffles and a little back pressure will hopefully solve that. :)
I enjoyed my XS650 Special ii.
Never drove it over 85 mph.

Hi Owen I ordered some baffles for them just to quiet them down a little, they are way too loud at the mo

Just out of curiosity mate, why didn't you set the float heights to spec for the carbs?
I wish I could buy a brand new XS650 if these bikes are still in production the 650 interceptor with fly away like fly shit on the window
