- Today we venture up to our northern neighbors in Canada to bring home a BMW E12 528i. The first generation 5 series, totally rust free, so we need to get it out of Canada fast!! Come along as we cross the border in a series of stressful events and then get a first look at our new E12!!
I would ride this car around like nobody's business. Great find and clean looking car. I love any BMW with style 5 wheels.
Its a beauty!!
Wish I could have given you some advice before you crossed.
Thanks for making content of the trip and saving the e12!! Hope it finds a worthy home.
@@francispowell1811 ahhaha would have appreciated advice for sure because i made mistakes
What a beauty. Great pickup
Thanks dude! Now i need an E12 in my life! 😂
Another Great Video man!
Greetings from germany!
Thank you my friend!!!
Wow once you replace the bad rubber and fix the brakes that'll be almost like a new CAR!
Exactly!!
Hey Josh, congrats. Your favourite!! E12 brakes!
@@daveg2113 i love that you remember the brake trials and tribulations 🤣🤣🤣
That border inspection looked like such an uncomfortable process, glad you got through though.
@@TimSlee1 super uncomfortable lol
That's almost certainly a retrim - the original marine blue cloth on those was like a kind of velvety corduroy. It didn't last long in LA heat though.
Yeah, those catalysed 528i's have a different two piece exhaust manifold. Non cat ones have the same manifolds as the E3, E9 etc. They look like E34 15" BBS.......?
It'd be nice to get Euro bumpers on it!
Nice car, great vid!
Im not so sure. Its identical fabric stitching to other e12s ive had, just different colors. I cant imagine companies can retrim these seats to this quality. But I ageee its very unique. Unsure
@@BerwhaleTheAvenger-b5s Now that you mention it I remember that trim, thanx
I just rebuilt the callipers on my E12 as well, if there is corrosion in between where the square cut seal is and the dust boot, they bind up pretty heavily.
Being a two brake line per side four piston set up, it is a little tricky to get all of the pistons out.
Make sure to clean up the corrosion behind where the square cut seal rides and above it on the dust boot side. Centric makes a kit 143.34002 (Rockauto), and you need two sets to do both sides.
Before I rebuilt mine, the brakes would just stick on, so I thought pushing back the pistons and working them in and out would bring them around again, but there was so much corrosion that a couple of the pistons just wouldn't push back out, and the brakes would barely work- until they were almost on the floor.
I wouldn't be surprised if a couple of the pistons were not even touching the pads. Which would be why you have almost no pedal
Thank you for the information! I actually rebuilt e12 calipers many years ago, some of my first videos on the channel. Was quite the learning curve
I appreciate the e12 content. If I were in a different position I'd even offer to buy from you. Nice score.
@@algeniscorrea187 thank you!
Love this content. Good looking car
Thank you!!!
Euro-spec E12s had no emission controls and ran on leaded premium gas. In 1986 they introduced unleaded in Europe and leaded gas was phased out in the early 90s.
It was absolutely worth the hassle at the border, what a find, congratz 🎉
Thank you! Really don’t see e12s like this often
Dumb question but why not register/plate the trailer? I can't imagine it would be too expensive to do so, especially if you're using it regularly.
Track use only, unnumbered, untitled trailer lol. Was used at Autobahn racetrack to pull broken cars off the track
my old 81 was a rust bucket, picked up a e28 535 to replace it. it's still in some guys barn in Maryland, I think. Miss the sound and smells.
E12s certainly are special cars!
Dude that stressed me out!!just watching “O” Canada!!! That baby is mint!! It’s a very nice!!
man i just love e12s
@@Wilantonjakov SO DO I!
As the owner of an Alpine White 1979 528i in Canada I would love to see more of it. (my 528 has a b35 in it though)
@@Gazpacho8 ahhh B35 e12 is great!!
@@m3nameisjosh464 I would be curious what your opinion is of the performance of the stock car, since I find my b35 swap to be pretty slow. So Imagine the 2.8 must be a slug.
@@Gazpacho8 3.5 shouldn’t feel that slow! The key is putting yourself back in 1980 and feeling the sensations of peppy enjoyment rather than think straight line speed. If thats the case any BMW under 400hp would feel slow!
@@m3nameisjosh464 I would have expected it to feel pretty quick since it's supposed to be 200hp. Not sure if that is flywheel or rear wheel on an e34. It's fun to drive, but it's slower than a v6 Malibu or a new half-ton truck. So kind of lame for a sedan these days.
Lmk if/when you sell, I’m interested….had a 79 euro 528i that was awesome but too rusty, really love the E12s!
Shes already sold actually😅
Scared of heights ? haha.. welcome to my country.
Very scared 🤣🤣
Well, this new adventure of yours was a blast to watch for me. I'd very much enjoy seeing more in the future. So, being that it's a 79, can you "un-Cali" the emissions and exhaust to make it more user friendly? That would be something worth doing in my book. Anyway, on to the next adventure! Cheers!
Very glad you enjoyed! Thank you! I believe it really just needs the larger muffled exhaust removed and its all good. Not sure what other tuning was done.
What part of Canada did you visit, congrats on the purchase man!
Just windsor!
Thank you for coming to Canada, sorry about the issues, good people like you are screen very hard...
Alll good!
What an old classic. Really enjoyed this episode and I must say, it’s fun to import cars.
I’ve imported cars from two different countries and while it’s often long journeys and some stress beforehand it’s interesting and fun :)
Thank you! And I completely agree. Its worth it!!
8:35 lol
Bro my cheeks tightened just watching them sweat you. Repping the stachecam shirt. Love the content.
Hahahshsh yeah dude it was nervewracking
It looks great
I have a nice stitches scar on my index finger from my uncles e12 I was 5yrs old and he had me bump the brakes, “don’t touch the windshield”! He said it was all smashed! Being 5yrs old I found out!! Why😂😮
Ouch man. What a memory
honestly clean af body for 1k lol looks gorgeous!
Well she was more than that😝
@@m3nameisjosh464 haha just what you told the canucks 🤣
You know I’m in on E12 content!
😉
👍😎💪
The first one had smaller tail lights, gas lid at the back instead of side and the bump on the hood was differend . 1976
Doesnt mean yours is not nice 😊😊😊😊😊😊
@@tommyvandervelden2977 this is an early late one😇
You r forgiven ;-)@@m3nameisjosh464
No wayyy josh came to Ontario lmaoo
Just windsor for 30 minutes lolol
That's my favorite Bimmer. I would love one. One that worked!
One that works! Lol
I thought early e12s had the small tail lights and fuel door on the rear panel.. what am i missing?
Thats early early. This is late early 🤣
A beauty for the price. Nice condition for the year. Hope to see it runing good.
Totally!
Yep, that was worth the trouble!
Lachs silver? Salmon Silver!
Polaris!!!
Love the car and love the video! Bring a Canadian I was pleased to see our border patrol doing their best to keep the riff raff out. You need to come back and visit!
Thank you Barry!! They did a good job! Almost kept me out!
Hell yeah love the chest cam.
🤪🤪
@@m3nameisjosh464 And the BC display is awesome, too :)
Great content Josh, really enjoyed the nail biting trip through customs, glad you filmed it. The 528i is beautiful, love the interior, it looks lush and period. Style 5 suit it too, they fill out the arches nicely. Sweet engine a win, win, all round. BUT DOODE, driving that beauty with ZERO brakes is just asking for trouble, you already got a free pass with customs, thinking you pushed your luck with red lining her before a brake overhaul, stay safe Dude, we need more awesome M3nameisjosh content in the future. I think the customs guy is now a subscriber, ha! 🙏😎
Hahahah thank you dude. Im glad you enjoyed! I was waiting to be yelled at about driving with no brakes. Dont worry im an expert handbrake user 😉
Casual e30 m3 in the garage

@@John-om3bu weird right? Seems pretty justifiable to keep running especially with high dollar valuables in my car
lowkey give us one more episode of this thing I dig it
Thanks dude
This is ridiculous as a canadain we shouldn't have a border between us and Canada
Yeah im not sure I understand the point. Especially the seriousness of it
big josh world traveler! i told you this man is going places. amazing to see the progress since i started following around 5k subs. m3 josh to 100k! edit: yes we want to see first looks always. and is that a platinum goals bro

@@m3nameisjosh464 i sold my 2014 lariat f150 4x4 ecoboost twin turbo miss that truck, my dream truck is 2016 metallic red platnium 4x4 with black leather with the panoramic roof soooo nice LFG
My uncle was a young certified BMW mechanic back in the early 80’s and he would get all kinds of cheap crashed bmw’s and fix & flip and little me was his helper! I’m steeped in the bmw addiction!
Sounds awesome!!! Definitely in your blood now!
yum
Josh ! As a Canadian, I can tell you it was 100% certain you were going to be pulled over entering with a non-registered trailer AND not disclosing the exact amount of cash you had on you AND filming those officers...Those are big no-no for Canada (and US) Customs !! You were lucky this time. Be careful in the future and inform yourself on the Canada Customs Website before visiting us again !! Very nice car BTW !
I live life one customs infraction at a time ;). Foolish acts all around on my end. But we managed to smuggle my E12 home safely!
