Luke, old cars; When they don't start, while starting, slowly, in 2-3 seconds, press the accelerator to halfway, and keep it there while you keep the start motor going. Do not pump, pumping does not work on any semi modern car. Really works miracles.
@@rollingtroll Your throttle inputs are being ignored by the car during startup. It may help with poor idle once started, but that just means you have a fault that needs fixing. Mashing the accelerator isn’t going to fix it ;-).
@@trainman665 My car, and many cars with a similar engine (the 1.6 that's in many fiesta's and the fusion) has an issue when half warm, when not parked level. It will only start after a couple of attempts. If, when I hear that it's not going to start, I apply a little throttle, it starts right away. So it's apparently not that simple.
As someone who normally watches your main tech channel, this was a great change for me, it had top gear (UK version for me) vibes all over, and I loved every moment, thank you for the laughs, and I can’t wait for the next episode!
Hey Luke! I once took a road trip in this exact model from Berlin, Germany to Kayes, Mali in West Africa - about 6700 km of pure adventure! It was one of the most reliable cars I've ever driven. I ended up selling it there, but the memories still stick with me. Loved watching your video, it brought back so many great moments. If you ever pass through Ulm, Germany, hit me up! I'd be happy to host you.
No idea how you turned up in my TH-cam feed but this was great. Always been a top gear freak (Clarkson and his mob) because it was a natural partnership with Hammond and may…you guys have that vibe. Honestly you’re way better than any of the updated top gear attempts….way way better

Dude you’re doing so many things! I started watching your tech chanel in the beginning, you were just making videos in your apartment. Evolving that much that fast is impressing!
I had a 300e that rarely overheated, but whenever it overheated you just had to wait 30minutes and it'll start right back up like nothing happened, such a reliable fuскеr 😂.
Now what a surprising fun video Luke made here featuring two of the old style classics Mercedes Benz W124! 😎 I even have a friend here in the country where these two classics come from, who has one of them as a very comfortable, reliable "daily driver", as they say. He bought his Mercedes Benz W124 3.0 litre 6 cylinder (all available extras were fitted when the car was built in 1991) 2 years ago and the car has just this week passed the mandatory 2 yearly safety inspection for roadworthiness and technical suitability without any problems! He drives it to and from work 5 or 6 times a week and consumes 8.5 litres of petrol per 100 km, which is very good for such a car. And there is an Apple iPhone SE, which is not only used in its original function as a mobile phone, but also runs Google Maps, which is attached to the dashboard just like in Luke's car and supplied with power in case someone gets lost on the roads ... Greetings from Germany!
I love this so much. Others channels have tried to recreate top gear and imo have failed. You guys seriously made me feel like I was watching old top gear again. Please make more of these types of videos!
I swear every friend group dreams of going on a long road trip in cheap cars. This is a dream of mine too, so I hope someday these dreams may make it out of the group chat and become reality
This is so well done guys. Thank you so much. Big top gear vibes. This deserved many more views than auto Alex! Great chemistry between the two hosts. Thanks from Denmark !
Great, really engaging. There's so many channels trying all sorts of car adventures and trying to achieve what the holy trio did, but not many are actually interesting nor original. You guys, IMO not trying so hard to be like someone else, therefore you're watchable. I'm enjoying it.
I'm not into cars, but this video was very entertaining, almost like a roadmovie. Instantly subscribed. Long time subscriber of your main channel from Germany here btw. Can't wait for part two!
crazyy coincidence, but yesterday i left thessaloniki, stopped in veilko tarnovo for the night (the town in bulgaria) and now I’ve just arrived home, in bucharest (romania). This video was exactly like my journey 💀💀
Northern Greece, especially Macedonia, has some really beautifull landscape to drive, especially in the winter with the snow at the sides of the road! And, the "Bulgarian" cheese snack, it's made in Thessaloniki. Really enjoyed the video, it was awesome! Bulgarian and Romanian countryside is beautifull!
That's was a Very nice video. That's great that you came here and pick cars from Greece. We re waiting for part 2. You must do again from another car from Greece and that time you must go from another way. From Albania to Croatia Italy and other countries. By the way excellent video.
Kudos on a fantastic production, done on a likely shoe string budget. I live in Athens & darn close to where you were filming', and, I also own a W201 used as a daily. Both 201's and 124's are work horses dressed in tank attire with uber thick paint. Shame I didn''t catch your Athens filming. Looking fwd to Part 2- oh and to the reaction of the Germans when seeing their Panzers with Greek tags.
This was so well done Luke. It’s like you and your buddy commandeered an episode of Top Gear from Jeremy and James May (I won’t say who is who 😉). Everything from the planning, to the shot selection, the music, and the dialogue is so on point. Really impressive; you should be super proud of this work of art and I’m all in for more.
The inside smells "aromatic" 🤣🤣🤣 I love the roadtrip. And even though I just did it 2 months ago in the same region. I didn't enjoy it as much with all the potholes destroying my project car 😅
Digging into presumably "cheap" vintage cars, especially those built between the mid 80s and early 90s, you'll find that they are mostly astonishingly reliable - they were 'built to last'! Depending on the condition, they only rarely develop some kind of fault. If they do, replacement parts are mostly dirt cheap and easy to come by. And in most cases, those faults can be fixed by yourself with just a standard tool kit and a 'do-it-yourself' repair guide. I've got myself an Audi 80 B3 (1990) two years ago (with "only" 120.000km on the clock), and apart from minor fixes it hasn't let me down once yet!
Love this video, first time I see something you made. Probably as I search for Mercedes video’s all the time, and especially 80’s Mercedes, meaning the ones that were in the 80’s and either came into it (R107 and W123), went through it (W126), or came in the 80’s, (W124). Some of my absolutely favourite cars. Just one thing, I own several of these. If you have cooling issues, turn on all the heat you can in the car, that will give you several minutes more, but do stop. Quickly. Faulty thermostats, radiators partially blocked and so forth has killed many of these engines, as they can run very well for years on bad thermostat and/or radiators without you ever knowing it, until you hit traffic on a warm day, or even a cold day. The engines cool down relatively quickly, and hopefully the traffic has gotten less severe as well in that say half an hour you need. That is way quicker than any repairs. Or even worse, blown head gaskets. That said, I absolutely loved this video, absolutely loved your chemistry between you two, loved to see those two cars on the road, and boy are they cheap in Greece! Great Top Gear inspiration, great choice of cars! And very cool that you have more or less the same car. No “same” used cars are the same. Can’t wait to the next video!
This was amazing! Thank you for sharing info about your car channel over the main one. I love the w124 and your humor. This is the closest to cheap car challenges in top gear i've seen.

I love these cars! I own a W210 E430 and a W211 E55 from the early 2000’s and they are great cars but there’s ALWAYS something minor broken like a seat switch or a washer motor but the drivetrains just run forever. The E55 is modded and has 118k miles and the E430 has 171k miles and I do all my own maintenance and repairs to keep cost of ownership down ($300 a year each typically) and I recently drove the E430 4000 miles in about 2 weeks to attend my mothers funeral and averaged 26.8 mpg at an average speed of 68 mph over the entire trip. I had the charge the AC on both of them this summer but even in 90-100 deg in the desert the old systems still cool just fine and my temp never got more than a tick above the 80c mark. Old Mercedes are great as long as they are driven and maintained regularly but letting them sit is a death sentence. Save and drive these cars every chance you get!
Love this adventure. Great idea! Great choice! In fact, these cars are still to be seen daily in Europe, especially here in Germany. We still have some taxis with 7-digit kilometers on their clock.
