I think it has vibes of both the Model 3 and Cybertruck, which isn't surprising because Franz was the lead designer on both. The nose looks a bit like a Model 3, but with the CT light bar. The flat on the back end and light bar also have some CT vibes, as does the silvery/gold colour.

The only critical thing on the cybercab are the doors ... i don´t know ... is there alwas so much space around the car when you get in or out of a cab/taxi on normal streets where people are buzzing around : bicycles, pedestrians, inline skaters, e-scooters, motorcycles, etc. , ? I don't think it was abrupt, Elon and Tesla are going to use the same platform for both cars (model 2 and cybercab) but they probably see the cybercab is better for longterm growth
It was purpose built to be a robo-cab...no glove box, center console, door pockets, rear or side view mirrors, no rear glass. Seats and floor are flatter and unobstructed by design for easy automated cleaning as shown in Tesla's We Robot video.
People think it is so easy to create a car that self drives with no steering wheel and safely drop you home. If people are not impressed good luck to them. It takes time to build these and once it works it will rock. We are not too far away. Elon is a businessman so may throw in tall claims.
Elon has been claiming for years that this isn't far away, he's been wrong for around a decade now. I seriously doubt this is going to work, except in small controlled areas, like we see in this video. FSD using the Tesla hardware, seems a long way off and will need years of testing.

I bought a new Model X in 2017 with full self driving. I recently sold my X to one of my kids. My new model Y will FSD level 3 is amazing. Keeping the X in the family as never visited a service center. Only maintenance tires/windshield wiper fluid. Charge at home on solar saving $500/month on gas and electricity
This is the stuff that will be talked in the coffee tables, have to give appraisal to Musk and Tesla for that. He has his shortcomings like all of us but man is a visionary with deep pockets to see them through.
It'll take an event like this for people to start to understand "driverless". Waymo has been in operation in the SF Bay Area with great success, and after the first ride it's actually really good. Always safety first, something you CAN'T count on with a human driver! And, enthusiasts, this is NOT the end of your hobby. It's just a better way to get around in frustrating driving environments.

There's plenty of uncut self driving videos on TH-cam if you want to know the current state of FSD. Look up FSD 12.5.6, you can see them driving through dense city traffic and pretty much all weather conditions with 99% no problem.
The Optimus tele handle stuff is some what true. The voice was controlled. The bots were not. Watch over 10 mins of the bartender, it gets overwhelmed many times and just waves. I don't know, but my model 3 won't stop for schoolbus stop signs, and it ignores traffic director hand signals. (She was waving me through a stop sign, and the car wanted to stop for the sign. I had to accelerate ahead.)

Wayno is human supervised. There is a person sitting at a very nice driving sim control set monitoring and assisting the car every minute. The cars cost well north of $100k. When Tesla gets these vehicles onto the road Waymo will be done. They will have to buy robotaxis from Tesla to survive. Waymo is not autonomous nor is it scalable. If it was that great it would have already killed uber and regular taxis.

As a Model 3 owner driver I realise that anyone NOT in a Tesla has an imperfect driving style and I worry that at motorway speeds the auto pilot mode can often slow down quite abruptly when other cars drive close to the lane lines and I’d be cautious of getting into a bumper crash from the back. This and the breaking under risky situations and speeding up again might feel like being on the sea 🌊 It may struggle to exist in a world where people’s decisions affect the AI but I welcome autonomous driving. Can’t think of a better way to travel home after a tough day at work.
The difference is, FSD is a generalized driving solution that works everywhere. Xpeng, Waymo etc are limited to pre scanned and remapped curated areas. FSD doesn't have that limitation, you can drop it anywhere, even in areas with shitty map data and it will find it's way to the destination.

The magic is in invisible things -- FSD computer and Net, huge training compute, backend infra. Also the car is designed to be super manufacturable.

It'll take an event like this for people to start to understand "driverless". Waymo has been in operation in the SF Bay Area with great success, and after the first ride it's actually really good. Always safety first, something you CAN'T count on with a human driver! And, enthusiasts, this is NOT the end of your hobby. It's just a better way to get around in frustrating driving environments.

All those questions at the start... what about Tesla driving into a road work barrier recently? Show the taxis in a city and all its chaos. Show the taxis at speed. Look up waymo failures in AZ and SF. I'll believe it when I see it in a real environment for a year.

There's plenty of uncut self driving videos on TH-cam if you want to know the current state of FSD. Look up FSD 12.5.6, you can see them driving through dense city traffic and pretty much all weather conditions with 99% no problem.

How does it do around emergency vehicles though? This is something other robo taxi companies have struggled with. They get in the way or don’t yield to vehicles with emergency lights on.
I don't know, but my model 3 won't stop for schoolbus stop signs, and it ignores traffic director hand signals. (She was waving me through a stop sign, and the car wanted to stop for the sign. I had to accelerate ahead.)
It mimics what Tesla drivers do, so if they ignore emergency vehicles, so will the taxi.... :)

@@codeater8400 I do firmly believe the government will be forced to do UBI at some point but imo with how they are, they are going to enact it WAY WAY later than they really needed to do and a lot of people will really struggle during that time period. As robotics and AI get good enough, UBI is essentially the only answer.

Wayno is human supervised. There is a person sitting at a very nice driving sim control set monitoring and assisting the car every minute. The cars cost well north of $100k. When Tesla gets these vehicles onto the road Waymo will be done. They will have to buy robotaxis from Tesla to survive. Waymo is not autonomous nor is it scalable. If it was that great it would have already killed uber and regular taxis.

As a Model 3 owner driver I realise that anyone NOT in a Tesla has an imperfect driving style and I worry that at motorway speeds the auto pilot mode can often slow down quite abruptly when other cars drive close to the lane lines and I’d be cautious of getting into a bumper crash from the back. This and the breaking under risky situations and speeding up again might feel like being on the sea 🌊
It may struggle to exist in a world where people’s decisions affect the AI but I welcome autonomous driving. Can’t think of a better way to travel home after a tough day at work.

The difference is, FSD is a generalized driving solution that works everywhere. Xpeng, Waymo etc are limited to pre scanned and remapped curated areas. FSD doesn't have that limitation, you can drop it anywhere, even in areas with shitty map data and it will find it's way to the destination.
