    It's repotting and pruning season for a couple of my beginner bonsai, and this is a great video to return to as a technique refresher.

    Igbal, once again, thank you for your excellent video. And, for your input about the cat litter that you use for your soil. All the best, Jack

      I tend to prune mine during the growing season in Summer.
      Apologies for the delayed response. I was off YT for a number of years due to personal issues. All well now and am back on YT making and uploading new bonsai videos to my channel.

    Bythe way. Can you cut half or one third of the way through the needles ? Or we must completely remove the needles ?

    • @mikbonsai
      @mikbonsai  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MehranAshkanian
      You should only remove the needles completely which have turned yellow/brown.
      As for green needles, these should never be removed completely as new growth sprouts from green areas. That said, you can cut back half, a third or even more, as long as you leave some green needles behind.

      Another question. An small blue star Juniper was gifted to me last week and I wasn't familiar with this type of Juniper.
      In what season you prune the green needles for back buds. Mine is too small for wring and styling. I must wait at least a year.
      Thanks

      Hi Bonsai J, thanks for watching and commenting. I don't know the exact age, I would hazard a guess 20 to 25 years old.

    Another great video mate, I guess it is our native Juniperus communis, the common juniper.

    Thank you for the lesson.
    I recently just bought a blue star and did some work to it. I was then informed that it wasnt the time to do it, but that the tree should be OK as it is still pretty young.
    So mid autumn in this part of the world (I am in Dublin) is about right?
    Also, will those needles you are plucking grow back again, or is that it?

    I just got a blue star bonsai at the beginning of summer, things are going well I mostly keep it outside right now, but what do I do in the winter? I live in Canadian and we can get some pretty cold weather -20 Celsius and colder.
    I also hear some websites say the blue star still needs sunlight in the winter and others say it does not need sunlight , which is true?

      I live in London, UK and have no exprience of Canada. I have heard people in Canada and the USA bring their trees into the Garage over severe Winter weather.

    Patience, what I need most with my junipers. First problem-they are pencil like thin.2nd-i want to get them thicken very soon.go on trimming them n making them actually ugly. Also they turn brown and few days back I noticed something white on needles.Is it fungus?
    Thanks a ton Iqbal, for sharing informative videos.(wonder why 'some people' don't learn....)😂
    I watched three of your lovely videos just now...could not watch earlier.
    Thanks n regards.

      Hello Anita, Junipers are very slow growing, I have a number of them, including two I have grown from cuttings and the trunks are miles away from being pencil thin and are over five years old. I have been styling them and in spite of very thin trunks they look good. Don't worry about the thickness of the juniper trunks, focus on their over all styling. As for trimming them, do not use scissors, that is what makes them go brown. Use your index finger and thumb to pinch the leaders with are growing too fast to slow down the growth of fast growing leaders. Not Sure about the white stuff on your junipers, I have never had this problem. You need to post a pfe pics in facebook bonsai groups and ask, some very knowledgeable people there as well.
      Thankyou for binge watching and catching up.
      Best wishes

    I feel better after watching this.. I thought I messes up. How can I make it not look to ugly when trying to train it? I'm not sure what pattern its growing in right now. 😅

    • @Aar0nDown
      @Aar0nDown 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you use wire you can train it to take on a different shape, just make sure the wires don’t eat into it and that you get the right size wires for your tree so that way they don’t break the branches , I have seen a few videos on here that explain how to do it so just search for the type of videos
