I have played my Haynes flute for 60 years and was always afraid to mess with it but Bill gave me the courage and his instructions helped so much. Wish I lived near Martin Music Repair and I would have him overhaul this dear friend, my flute. Thank you Bill!!!
Wow--Thanks!!!! I picked up an older (1962-65, per serial number) Gemeinhardt M2 at a flea market for $15. I talked them down from $20, since it wouldn't play--I told them replacing the pads would run north of $100. It had an old repair ticket stub on the case, so maybe it had been abandoned. I ALMOST ordered a set of new pads, but when I looked at it, the pads looked fine. So I looked for videos on pad setting and flute repairs. This is where the thank-you comes in: I watched this video, and as you were explaining the "C" bar, I saw that the same screw on my flute had backed out about 1/8 inch and the B key bar was loose. I picked up one of my tiny screwdrivers, screwed it in (and backed out a tad when the B key got stuck), put it together, and played it all the way down to middle C. Now I just have to let the poor thing air out--it doesn't smell so good after who-knows-how-long in the case. It needs a bit of a polish too. I just can't walk past a flute, apparently. I have my old hard-to-play Bundy from high school band days, three Gemeinhardt M2s, and two early wooden Boehm flutes. One of those is a 1916 Haynes, but sadly, it is naturally 5 cents flat compared to modern tuning. It has terrific action and a warm, cozy tone. I play it with people who can tune to match the flute.
I used to give flute workshops in Germany. At one such workshop attended by 12 participents, I triesd out all their flutes and the Gemeinhardt M2 outclassed them all, and most of them had cost an arm and a leg. There wer a lot of dropping of jaws when they heard the differeence.
Thank you! I recently took my flute apart and after I put it together the F# key stopped being synchronized with the F key, but I'm pretty sure it's because I tightened the screw in too much.
What do u mean B dont work? It dont move or it dont make sound If it dont move, u have loose screw or bended key or spring out of place If no sound, well then all the flute shouldnt make any sound too bcz all notes comming from the top of the flute first, it will be also loose screw or just sealing and adjusting issue
Hi. On my flute, when I go to play f#, the key after 3rd key I hold down (furthest to the right when you play f) goes down and I can pick it up and have it wobble around. Does anyone know how to fix this or what's causing it? Thank you!

When playing low D, i hear an airy sound like air is escaping somewhere. any advice?
My flute that i brought a few weeks ago has a few munors. My G, Eb, A, and D can't play. I need help
How would I fix my G my G wont play and when I press the G note one of the pads wont go up thats y G wont work how do I fix that
maybe there is a loose screw
My e natural and f key are going down at the same time and then the e natural key gets stick when I try to play f. How do i fix it?
Your F spring is out of its place...just take small hook and try to return it to its place
I have a flute with a stuck Eb key on the foot. The rest of the keys on the foot are fine.
Larry Shone take out the key, clean and oil the key tube and hinge rod. It's likely something is bent slightly.
Thanks.
Do I undo the screw at the end of the rail so that all the keys after the Eb key come loose?
Hi . My D often gets closed for a few seconds while playing. What can i do for this problem?
One if the three things...
1- you have bended key
2- the pivot screw on the D is too tight
3- the spring on the D is too weak or its out of its place
What should i do since my B key isnt working
