I have an inexpensive beginner student flute that is in disrepair. It has been stored in a damp basement for 20 years. A local music store told me it would cost much more to get the flute in playing condition than the flute is worth. I can not afford to buy a new flute. Would it be possible for a handy person to get the instructional information to do the work oneself at home, to replace pads and do other work required to make a flute playable? If so, where would one find this detailed information?
You should contact a local qualified technician who will do the fitting of these parts. This type of work should only be done by a qualified technician.
As a child we used to put a tiny (reeeally thin layer, like very very little) bit of vaseline on the head joint. Then it would slide on smoothly but not twist while connected the body:) hope this helps

@@LehAn4a ok then, I guess I should discard the instrument.
@@hikesystem7721 I have the same problem
@@hikesystem7721 you could rent a flute
@hikesystem7721 why not do the repair by yourself, those pads cost little, you have nothing to lose.
Do you have any of bassoon?
…avoid wearing rings while assembling, disassembling, cleaning or playing your flute,- just saying 🤷♂️
What do I do if my head joint cannot join the body as smoothly ? It’s hard and I don’t wanna force it
