- In this video I take apart a step-up level flute, clean and polish it and reassemble it. This is not an in-depth tutorial, just talking about some of the things you need to keep in mind when disassembling a flute. If you don't have any instrumental experience, I would advice against doing any kind of disassembly yourself as it can result in damaging the instrument. Please ask a trained instrument technician for any help with fixing an instrument.
Very well presented. Keeps he viewers enticing, and escapes the flutist, Thank You!
I was just gifted an old flute from someone who was purging in preparation for a moving to a new place. I have been playing many types of flutes since the 70s but I never played a keyed flute. The flute is quite dirty and really needs a bath. Are there sources, such as books, that explain how to disassemble and reassemble a flute? Also, what would a professional charge to clean a flute? Thank you for posting this.
Nice to watch this. I hope i can do this to my flute too. Thank you. 💖👍😊
There should be a gore warning on this
Great tip with the wooden skewer but you should never ever put alcohol on pads 😭
Why?
Great cool video
I have an embarrassing question:
I fell asleep playing and dropped mine. It has a small dent right on the logo on the headpiece. Can I hammer it out?
Hey right on, good tips handling the silver, A couple of things I would have been cussing after I did them. Any tips where to get old flutes to try this on? And how much should I buy for and asking price (if I'm successful) Just wondering what the hour to dollar looks like. Oh yeah I just watched the guitar video too. Picture perfect on the PPE bro, it's scary how many people I've seen wearing loose floppy gloves working with rotary tools... And don't even want to count the rimes I've told someone still need your glasses with the face shield. Excellent cover on the safety.
Hey did the intro say the guitar is still available? I haven't checked Instagram yet but what I saw while you trimmed the saddle it feels best hung low in a power stance? Man looked like a sweet lead. Well I'd better get back too it. I've got a couple of cigar-box guitars almost ready. Really want to ship on Monday...
Hey John! Another great comment! Thanks for that! So to find a decent used flute, check Craigslist or pawn shops. You can usually find some older ones for less than $200. A lot cheaper then that sometimes. But you also need to keep in mind the quality of the pads themselves. If they are bad then you are really just going to be cleaning it to be an ornament or you would need to take it to a repair tech to have the pads replaced.
I am trying to be better with my PPE with my current projects and will be trying to implement that in my videos more since your suggestions!
And yes, even now the guitar is still for sale! So if you or anybody you know might be interested, please let me know! I'm willing to make a deal!
@@oakleydoeseverything6438 Thanks for the info on the flutes. Do you know anything about eletro-plating? I spent a little time working in a chrome shop, very dangerous chemicals, you really have to know how the chems react with the heavy metals and protect yourself when handling them. But Ahmad has his heart set on a golden flute and I shot my mouth off and told him if he wanted to throw money at it I'd make him one. So now I have to build a vacuum chamber that exhaust through an air scrubber so I can handle the nitric acid. If you'd like I can sketch out the chamber and plating process for you. Caution, if you have kids at home you might want to avoid having this process around the house.
I'm really glad about the PPE. It won't put money in your pocket but the feeling you get the 1st time someone tells you "I have both my eyes, all of my fingers, or I'm still alive," is a reward you'll carry with you for the rest of your life and worth a lot more, you'll see.
L.A, and San Bernadino counties here in California have auctions to raise money for the foster programs when the state has to rescue children from bad situations. I had donated a flying-v to an auction for the tax write off. The buyer contacted me and wanted to see what else I had made. He and his friends bought a club so they would have a place to jam at, now they own 70 or 80 clubs. I do a few request now and then but most of my work goes to their collections or the counties auctions for the kids. Same with my paintings.
That V I trimmed down to 1-1/4" shaped like a woman, except her butt. (needed the room for the pick-ups) 1st protective coating was polyurethane but it cracked badly... Stripped that and used an acrylic used on cars, works really well. I've had to strip, repaint and re-coat the V once in 17 years. others get used more and harder, I do them every year.
What state are you in?
I took a class on how to give a COA, so I've been working on some flutes. But sometimes when I reassemble, the right hand keys end up acting as 1 unit, they all go down when 1 key is pressed. The flute didn't start off that way, so how come sometimes all the keys go down together and how do I fix that?
Pivot screw too tight?
My flute is so old
So
Can I paint my flute with different color?
And what kind of paint I can use to paint my old Yamaha 22L FLUTE?
just clean it with water it works the best just put running water and done
I thought you weren’t supposed to get the felt keypads wet?
you aren't supposed to get them wet, but alcohol evaporates rather quickly. I've never done it though so I don't know how it turns out.
thanks
how do I put back on the cork under my pinky key 😂😂😂😂😂😂
My flute has mold HELP
Yuck!! The best way to take care of this is to make sure your clean it each time you play it. That's a good start! Now to get rid of it, take it to a competent repair person! They can help clean the instrument, sanitize, and make sure everything is in playing condition!
@@oakleydoeseverything6438 I took it to get cleaned/repaired I was lucky it was just tarnish.
@@andreasanchez3557 oh gotcha!! Hahaha! Yes that is very common for silver or sterling silver plated flutes.
@@oakleydoeseverything6438 I had a close call now I clean my flute after I play. Do you recommend any type of spray liquid to disinfect it?
