half way point. . . twas a japanese spider crab. . . they taste delicious, and cost a fortune (cant even buy them in australia, where i live). . . also started the whole "sailors coming across giant crabs on tropical island stories". . . as crabs they can survive without water for a few hours, so during migratory seasons they are occaisionally washed ashore on islands due to tsunamis or cyclones. . . so just imagine being a guy who has never seen a crab larger than his hand stopping of at an island to refresh his water supply to all of a sudden come across what looks like a 3m limb to limb bright red spider strolling through the destroyed tropical forest of an island, him running back to the ship thinking this thing is chasing his arse but turns out its just following the scent of salt and attempting to get back to the water. . . and subscequently deep as shit water. . . that would be terrifying as fuck

It has nothing to do with changing tanks, it occurs when you're in an environment where the pressure is much higher than normal and this causes your body to absorb the gasses you're breathing differently and it results in impairment that is often compared to being drunk.

The fish you saw are angler fish, the crabs are deep sea spider crabs, and the long dangling things are a species related to squid
Then you see deep sea squid and if you look at the tree looking coral those are actually deep sea sponges and you can see the sea worms, which is interesting because they mostly grow around thermal vents
its not a deep sea spider crab, those are tiny, its a japanese giant crab
Right got my odd sea animals mixed up but given how little we know about the deepest part of the ocean there could be deep sea creatures that size but yeah you are right that that creature is a Japanese giant crab

Well I mean... He was dead/dying, with little chance of getting him back to safety. As cruel as it sounds, stabbing sounds a lot better than dying from being too deep in the water in a failing suit, breathing in water, and freezing.

I want more sea exploration that isn't horror. I can watch these videos (and Death in the Water), but no way I would ever play it. Something like Beyond Blue but much... deeper. As in, stuff to do.

its been 6 years, I still remember this game in its entirety, its incredible how much this game has stuck with me. They dont make horror games like this anymore.
I thought this was just a simple deep sea exploration kind of game, but it is actually well-made and has a pretty decent narrative behind it. It gives me a good Soma vibe in fact as it also tackles the same theme. The creature you encounter at 17:07 is a Japanese Spider Crab and it's real.

What, Subnautica? Nah, it's a survival adventure game. It's about exploration and crafting, with a bit of suspense and a couple of dangerous creatures. Some people, like Markiplier, find it scary because the sea can be kinda unnerving. But it's not, you know, a _horror_ game.

When I saw "no eldritch terrors, only primal fears and human limits" I wasn't sure about this one tbh, but I just finished watching through to the end and it was totally worth it, they did A LOT without having to use fantasy monsters. Thanks for the walkthrough.

Okay like what the fuck how is this at all like subnautica. There's water involved, but that's literally it. Subnautica is open world, in the far future, has a crafting system, aliens, and a whole bunch of shit. This isn't close to that at all. This has a linear story and path you walk, at most, a decade or two in the future, much more horror than subnautica is, fish and other sea creatures that we are well aware of are exclusively in this game, and there is an exact amount of zilch percent sci fi. This is soma underwater, not soma and subnautica. Don't say it's like subnautica. Holy shit
