Ballast tanks on a submarine control you balance and depth, your fire started because you put the engines to work too hard and your power also probably tripped as a result, and stern is rear and bow is front, hope this helps you, love the video by the way
They are really just to control your buoyancy. Real world submarines control their depth with dive planes. Subs are designed to be inherently balanced, but you can adjust the roll with control surfaces. Ballast tanks are only used to control buoyancy.
@@GusCraft460 balance and depth are heavily determined by buoyancy, but are much simpler terms and more commonly understood, so theyre easier to use to explain how a sub works to people unfamiliar with them
@@astron33r67 well, no. Water’s density doesn’t dramatically change with depth. Though the deeper colder waters are slightly denser than the warmer surface waters, that usually only requires a minor adjustment. Salinity is a much bigger factor in water density. With the depth of the water in this game you would never need to make fine ballast adjustments. On most submarines the main ballast controls are only flood and blow (fill and empty) with no in between. The fine ballast controls are sometimes not even accessible at all on smaller subs. On the sub I work on, the fine ballast adjustment controls are underneath the floor of the control room. And ballast is never ever used to adjust balance. If multiple ballast tanks on one side are breached then the sub will become unbalanced, but the odds of this happening without the whole sub being destroyed are basically nonexistent.

that giant starfish looking thing by that door is indeed a real animal, dunno what it is but it does function like a starfish, just sits there unless disturbed, and they move around as well using those spiky limbs. I personally dont know what they are, but have seen them in tropical waters, they move around all freaky too, cartwheeling, sometimes even move like an octopus would. Alien maybe i dunno.
Wow... This looks terrifying but awe inspiring to be in. Your lifeline is the submarine. If that's gone, your gone. Truly a horror game at it's finest to show the players magnum opus of survivial.
Willy : "Use your head and life will be easier" Hahahahah it was perfectly timed after he almost suffocated. Willy suffers no fools. Red VS Blue vibes, if he called him a shiznu id have a fit.😂
Ballast tanks are what allow a submarine to submerge and surface. On the surface, these tanks are filled with air, giving the ship a positive buoyancy (it floats). When you want to submerge, you must flood the ballast tanks with water...this gives the ship a negative buoyancy (it sinks). from their, you can use the ships diving planes to control the ships angle of attack. These diving planes act as "wings" like on an airplane. When you wish to surface the ship, you must use compressed air stored above the stern and bow end ballast tanks to essentially pushout all the water and replace it with air, restoring the ships positive buoyancy. You may also use the diving planes in tandem with ballast tanks to increase diving/resurfacing speeds.
The green underwater environment with large tall buildings standing tall, sunken, and still, remind me of a dream I had within one year ago. I swam to and reached a dock at something like a beach. It was very mysterious.
You ran into the same problem I did on my third run (I kept going back trying to find all the things I missed) - the long snek fish isn't supposed to follow you to other zones, I believe. Didn't the first 2 times for me. Third time it followed me everywhere and kept tossing my sub around. I also had the crab follow me, so he was running around literally every place I stopped. Made it really difficult to search for stuff when he'd just suddenly pop up and smack me. Still fun, can't wait for the full game!
Remember now, it's more energy efficient to be huge while underwater. Less energy into a movement can mean more distance traveled relatively. This means that since the world is flooded, *everything* will get big eventually
Doesn't mean *everything* will get big. There are advantages to remaining small too. If energy is abundant, there is no need to be big, but being fast to catch the abundant food? Yup, that might be important, and encourage remaining small. Anything that doesn't need to travel a long distance wouldn't really have an incentive to get big. Then they can't fit in rocks to hide from even bigger fish. Evolution has been working for a long time already, saying eventually is a bit... wacko. There are millions of different survival strategies. Being big or small helps some, and worsens others.
This is... wrong. Just because being big has an advantage, doesn't mean being small doesn't also has advantages. Being big means your generally slow and cumbersome, whereas something smaller can be far more agile, as well as use things like houses for cover. The ocean already exists, and stuff has been evolving in it for 4 billion years. Why would all the fish already there, only decide to get bigger now? They don't care if its a big boulder or an abandoned house, it's all the same to them. What changes for the fish because the world is flooded??? Being small means faster, more agile and able to actively predate on stuff bigger than a pinky nail. Being small means hiding in rocks and reefs. Being tiny means being ignored by medium sized predators, and access to a much larger supply of food.
@@z.t.w.7440 You explicitly said that everything would get big. I am saying that efficiency is not the only variable that drives adaptation, by using predation as an example. You are wrong in saying that everything will get big, not that being big uses less energy ratio.
I'm not in Twitter so I haven't seen anything about this game for a while, but I immediately recognized that diegetic inventory system in the opening. I stumbled upon this game when looking for inspiration for diegetic UIs, it's so well done.
I had a dream like this where the world went dark, and it felt like things were flooding but civilization was saved on these crude submarines called arks and most light man made objects (like motorcycles) would float slightly but biological beings would turn dark like shadows and be extremely aggressive. And any marine life would swim around above.

Imagine the multiplayer with radio chat-like effects. The dread you'll feel after your friend went radio silent or just hearing them screaming in terror.
The bilge is the lowest part of the interior of a vessel. It is where liquids will accumulate. That bilge crank is probably a bilge pump, which would be important for pumping water out of your sub.

I love this sort of thing. I want to explore a devastated wasteland that has a story to tell, all the while I'm in danger, with hunger, and body temperature and thirst all being important to survival.
I might be wrong but the first fish that attacked you when you where first exploring is I believe a grouper and that really long one that attacked the sub next to the really deep area is a gigantic oarfish. I hope my animal crossing fishing didn't let me down lmao
Swimming requiring timing and being unable to do it properly when panicking is probably the point, as this is a known occurence when people who know very well how to swim, start panicking in the water.

Think of them like CDs, just another storage device that anything can be put on. But the storage size was so small you could generally fit maybe one well compressed mp3 from today on one. To put it another way, with common modern internet speeds, you could download the contents of 26 floppy discs per second.
@@grimmreaper9005 Fast, indeed. Pretty sad to see the era of Moore's Law and miniaturization come to an end; computational technology is comparatively advancing at a snail's pace now. @@syzorst 1:13:00. Not it exactly, but it will get you to the sequence where it starts attacking his sub. Then he goes out and sees it in the distance. Then he leaves.
@@syzorst 1:16:40 to 1:16:41
21:18 nah but fr what was that?
There's something horrifying about seeing something like that sticking out of the ocean in the middle of nowhere, and then disappearing. Like, you know it's not supposed to be there. Honestly I don't even know what that is, it looks like some sort of structure, but I'm not sure. Feels like delirium. I don't know if that is intentional or not but I hope it is. This is something Lovecraft would write about.
i believe seeing as this game is still being developed that the game rendered the sub or some other object above the water then realized it shouldn't be there
Feels more like a pre-Water World. Like events before the movie but a small time frame after the world got submerged under water.
feels more like climate change in the next couple decades lol
Honestly, there is something that I really like about your videos. The fact that you change your voice to fit your environment in game. I think you are the only person making videos that i've seen do that, and it adds a level of engagement that is just so good.
Bro PLEASE make a whole Lets Play out of this when it releases!! I just discovered your channel and i want to see you play this game 100%! Im not much into Horror Games, but the way you moderated it makes me want more!! Subscription done! :)
The coin jumpscare at 49:10 is too funny dude lmao
I’m rich SpongeBob me boy
As a person who has thalassaphobia, the point 1:16:41 when i realized that even if i bought the game i cant play it, game is too damn scary.
XD same, Im buying because its a good game. Will probably take me years before I open it, and another more to finish if
yep, shit is insane..
Sub nautica can be played in VR. I just wanted to cause a freak out.
Same, I get wigged out just watching these videos.
Ocean part is bad what makes it more terrifying is are they planning on giant eels or sea snakes at that point it becomes unplayable for me i can lie to myself and say I am space instead of the ocean but the second i see a snake like anything that is it I am done
The flamingos and that giant crab near the end were two of the funniest parts in my opinion.
I find it funny how Willy put a cup of coffee out and IGP was just like “what do you want” then later sees the coffee and says “somebody’s in here”
It was IGP who enticed me to play Subnautica and love the experience. Wish I could play it again like it was my first time, still longing for a similar experience.
Have found Subnautica-like games, like Under the Waves, Forever Skies, and Astrometica, but they still can't fill the void that Subanautica left in me. Appreciate this recommendation!
Sleep? Who needs that! I'm gonna be up till almost 3 watching this! Thank you IGP! Love your content! I came across your channel recently and have been binge watching so many of your videos! ❤

I love survival games where you take your home with you, like a snail its shell.
And so many things to click, in your rusty, sturdy home.
My game, for sure.
Thx for the preview.
lmao, the anchor version of clippy had me dying
that giant starfish looking thing by that door is indeed a real animal, dunno what it is but it does function like a starfish, just sits there unless disturbed, and they move around as well using those spiky limbs. I personally dont know what they are, but have seen them in tropical waters, they move around all freaky too, cartwheeling, sometimes even move like an octopus would. Alien maybe i dunno.
You and anything water-related always go hand-in-hand, like how Skilly always goes hand-in-hand with gravity in Elden Ring
13:07 The word you're looking for is "Submechanophobia".
Way too damn familiar with that, but I torment myself with this shit regardless.
Wow... This looks terrifying but awe inspiring to be in.
Your lifeline is the submarine.
If that's gone, your gone.
Truly a horror game at it's finest to show the players magnum opus of survivial.
Fuck the sub, I'm more concerned with the large-ish aggressive fauna that just decodes to attack you randomly
bro got more scared of the bug than anything else so far

The camera system being called "steel organ" is a cute touch. I honestly love when creatives wear their inspirations on their sleeves.
Willy : "Use your head and life will be easier"
Hahahahah it was perfectly timed after he almost suffocated. Willy suffers no fools. Red VS Blue vibes, if he called him a shiznu id have a fit.😂
Love your vids Iggy, been watching for a while and usually I don’t play or watch horror, but you make it fun, thanks dude!

"Do you know what a floppy disk is?" Yeah, its the save icon.
I HATE under water horrors but your vids make them worth that fear

Always loved the idea of nomadic survival games where you continually have to travel and explore to survive and maintain your transport.
The Long Dark if it had sled dogs or a snow mobile or something would be neat.
Check out "The Long Drive"
I love that BIG glitch. HILARIOUS! Can't wait for the full version! XD
Alright noted, make sure Im not around to see what happens when the world is submerged.
This is...
@@partiallyfrozen3425 I think you've missed the difference between efficiency of energy in movement and efficiency of size in predation
Dude that Spider Crab was huge; I can only imagine the size of the Humboldt squids!
I have not watched this guy in a year and he is still a has a banger channel

I had a dream like this where the world went dark, and it felt like things were flooding but civilization was saved on these crude submarines called arks and most light man made objects (like motorcycles) would float slightly but biological beings would turn dark like shadows and be extremely aggressive. And any marine life would swim around above.
I swear I have the coolest dreams with the best world building and stuff with the most fun I’ve ever had or the coolest things I’ve ever imagined and then I wake up and forget it after 30 seconds.
Broke off the back side of my knee recently so you and all the TH-camrs i watch are helping me not go bored as i can't do much left leg is down and right arm is down. Appreciate the good games you play

The bilge is the lowest part of the interior of a vessel. It is where liquids will accumulate. That bilge crank is probably a bilge pump, which would be important for pumping water out of your sub.
You said "Oh my God" more than a nun on Sunday.
IGP with another banger - ever since that last game on the oil rig, I am all for sea related horror. Although I have yet to play Subnautica myself, I am all for this!

Me and my fiance love watching your videos together. TH-cam brought our long distance relationship together and now that we live together, its still one of our favorite things. Thanks for making awesome videos!
This game is so cool, awesome attention to detail and just a very well made game overall.
I hope my animal crossing fishing didn't let me down lmao
i have totally watched the entire video already and this was the best video i have seen by far
Lmao
Swimming requiring timing and being unable to do it properly when panicking is probably the point, as this is a known occurence when people who know very well how to swim, start panicking in the water.
i've been absolutely loving these hour + long videos!! I know it still might seem weird to a lot of TH-camrs, but it really feels like we get to spend time with you and it's awesome!
I love the Bioshock-esque aesthetics
The fear of large things underwater is submechanophobia. My wife has it. Even a picture of a sunken boat in deep water freaks her out.
Holly sheep, i got chills when you were diving to the wreck to get the fuses... there's something so scary and eery about not knowing whats out there, into the darkness of deep sea
A floppy disk is something you put data on from 1971
I remeber having to used them when I was a young 8 year old
playing educational games on floppy disks.
See, that's indicative of people's mentality. We used to use tech to educate people, now we put games on calculators so we don't have to pay attention in math class, lol
For the record, sometimes I liked math, just not the teachers or the particular aspect of math.
I used it from 2004 to 2007 during middle school terms
@@Altair1243WAR who's "we"? In Romania we had education games on CDs sometimes. Never tried them. Or the teacher would show us online physics simulations aimed for children on websites. It still happens in my country, more so than ever with the whole digitalization of the education sector.
Floppy disks were still a thing in the 90s.
"It's a levy-athon!!" Killed me.
This channel is so funny. Instant subscribe. 😂
The war of the worlds game is one of the best visual games that I've seen its a free roam game you have to survive 1 week in game
lemme go ahead and make a bunch of people feel old, I have never seen a floppy disk in my life, only ever heard of them, and only know about them from people asking young people if they even know what they are. Even still, I'm not 100% sure what they were used for or how they worked, I always just assumed it was how people stored videos before disks became a thing
Im 21
Also the animal on the wall wall at 24:08 is a brittle star, a relative of starfish, and just as harmless (to us) :)
DUDE
Think of them like CDs, just another storage device that anything can be put on. But the storage size was so small you could generally fit maybe one well compressed mp3 from today on one. To put it another way, with common modern internet speeds, you could download the contents of 26 floppy discs per second.
@@ledumpsterfire6474 thanks for the explanation! how far technology has come, and so fast too
@@grimmreaper9005 Fast, indeed. Pretty sad to see the era of Moore's Law and miniaturization come to an end; computational technology is comparatively advancing at a snail's pace now.
Back in the 90's to 00's we were seeing sometimes even 200% increases to processing power per generation, but now that the components they're working with are slowly approaching the size of atoms (which is a pretty fucking hard limit), we're lucky to see 15% increases in generations that take twice as long to develop and release, with costs inflating like a balloon, and requiring more space, power, and cooling to manage.
This honestly feels more like 3D Barotrauma than Subnautica
57:47 I was SCREAMING at my laptop "THE BUS YOU JUST READ ABOUT!!" lol great vid dude
I’m grateful to be part of such a loving community. God bless you all.
The difference is that Subnautica isn't trying to be a horror game but god damn it is
get thermoblade and statis rifle, then it is a slasher, but from fish point of view
Idk why you think it's weird that opening a door under the sea causes objects inside the building to shuffle. Have you never had a door in your house slam shut because of an open window?
Willy is modeled after that annoying "helper" paper clip thing from windows 95
TH-cam suggested this video and I am so glad it did. I LOVE Subnautica and this game looks so sick! Thank you for showcasing it! = )
This game would be so much fun if it were multiplayer.
From the perspective of someone who has no fear of the Ocean. Subnautica is one of the easiest build/base-builder/survival games there is. This is actually a horror game with some more in depth systems. There is a big difference
I hate the ocean to hell and back im deeply afraid but except a few jumpscares here and there with reapers su nautica isnt scary and pretty easy
